3 Prerequisite Classes 1. The 4.5 day Industrial Generator and Controls class requires the completion of the online Industrial Generator and Controls e-learning curriculum. 2. The 4.5 day Industrial ATS class requires the completion of the online Industrial ATS e-learning curriculum. 3. The Liquid-Cooled Residential Product requires the completion of the Liquid-Cooled Residential e-learning curriculum. 4. Industrial Certification requires the completion of the 4.5 day Industrial Generator and Controls and 4.5 day Industrial ATS. 5. The 4.5 day Residential Product Certification requires the completion of the online Air-Cooled and Liquid- Cooled Residential e-learning curriculum. Online e-learning curriculum is available through the KPS Learning Academy website. This course work should be completed before attending any factory sponsored training. To aid in completing the prerequisite e-learning the student should have access to industrial service literature. The Industrial Service Literature DVD, TP-1100-DVDX is available through a yearly subscription using form G Service literature is also accessible from the Kohler Power Systems Resource Center website. To access the KPS Learning Academy (kpslearningacademy.com) a user ID and password will be required. Complete and send the KPS leaning academy registration form G to kpslearningacademy@kohler.com. G registration form is available to distributors from the KPS Resource Center website. Dealers or end customers can obtain the form through your Kohler distributor.

4 Generators & Controls 4.5 Days - $700 Monday 8:30 am to 4:00 PM Daily Ends Friday at noon Instructions Include: - Basic Generator Theory - Alternators and Voltage Regulators - Generator Controls & Governors - Gaseous Fuel Systems - General Operation - Theory of Operation - Wiring Diagram Analysis - Trouble Shooting - Hands-on Labs - Remote Communications Communications 2 day - $300 8:30 am to 4:00 DailyInstruction Includes: - Monitor software operation - System setup - RSA setup - Mod bus - Ethernet converters - On Cue software This class will concentrate on the setup of the Monitoring products concentrating on Mod Bus to Ethernet converters. Bring your own computer. Technician will use personal computer for system setup. This is a good opportunity to verify technician s computer works with all related software. This course is designed for the technician working on generators and needs to gain experience on Kohler product lines. This course is considered the prerequisite to the Industrial Certification testing. Technician will need to have laptop computer. Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS) 4.5 days - $700 Monday 8:30 am to 4:00 PM Daily Ends Friday at noon Instructions Include: - Contactors - Controls - Options - Theory of Operation - Components - Wiring Diagram Analysis - Trouble Shooting - Programming & Adjustments - Remote Communications - Intro to Bypass Switches This course is designed for the technician working on automatic transfer switches and needs to gain experience on the Kohler ATS models. This course is considered the prerequisite to the Industrial Certification testing. Technician will need to have laptop computer. Residential Product Line Certification 4.5 day - $700 8:30 am to 4:00 pm Daily Ends Friday at noon Instruction includes: - Installation basics - Air Cooled product - Liquid Cooled product - On Cue software - Gaseous fuel systems and Governors - Hands-on labs - Residential ATS This course is for the technician performing service work on residential generators and ATS. This is a required course for the Residential product line certification. The final day of class will include a written test. To obtain certification a minimum grade of 80% is required. Technician will need to have laptop computer.

5 DPS Paralleling System Installation 3 Day - $500 8:30-4:00 Daily Instruction Includes: -Paralleling basics -Dec 6000 Setup -Interconnection Diagrams -Installation of Master Control Panel -Testing -Programming -Troubleshooting Technician will setup a typical parallel application. Technician will learn how to program the Dec 6000 controller, run the interconnections, install a master panel, test and troubleshoot the application. Student must have already passed the Industrial Certification classes before registering for this class. Technician will need to have laptop computer. Commercial Marine 3 Day - $500 Monday 8:30 am to 4:00 PM Daily Instruction Includes: - Dec 3+ controller - Dec FR II / FRX alternator - Engine Diagnostics - Electrical Schematics - Engine maintenance This course is for the technician performing service work on commercial marine product. The final day of class will include a written test. To obtain certification a minimum grade of 80% is required. Technician will need to have laptop computer. John Deere Engine Training John Deere engine training is available through online and instructor led training. See Addendum A Liquid Cooled Residential Product 3 Day - $500 8:30-4:00 Daily Instruction Includes -Genset model RCL -Genset Model ERES -4E, FRX and FR II alternators -Schematic diagrams and sequence of operation -Engine diagnostics -Using diagnostic software This class is designed for technicians working on liquid cooled gensets kW kW Gaseous Fuel Generators 2.5 Day - $400 8:30-4:00 Daily - final day should let out at noon Instruction Includes kW genst models -Schematic diagrams and sequence of operation -Engine diagnostics -Using diagnostic software This class is designed for technicians working on gaseous genset models kW. Gas / Diesel Marine Generator Service School (5-32kW Pleasure Craft Product) Certification 3 Day - $500 8:30 am - 4:00 pm Daily Instruction Includes: - Marine generator basics - Generator Theory - Diesel - Gasoline product line - Marine Generator Controls - Hands-on troubleshooting This course is for the technician performing service work on gasoline and diesel - pleasure craft marine generators. This is a required course for the Marine product line certification. The final day of class will include a written test. To obtain certification a minimum grade of 80% is required. Technician will need to have laptop computer.

6 Certification Course - Industrial Generator 2 Day - $300 8:30 am to 4:00 pm Daily Testing on following: - Dec 3+ controller - Dec 550 controller - Dec RSA - Fast Response TM II Alternator - Fast Response TM X Alternator - Marathon Alternator - Excitation Systems / Voltage Regulation - Annunciators Testing will include both written and live equipment troubleshooting. Required equipment: Student must be registered to receive the CD/DVD service file. Technician must bring laptop computer and most recent release of CD/DVD service file TP-1100-CDX or DVDX to complete written test. To complete the live equipment troubleshooting portion of the testing the technician will need the most recent release of Program Loader software. Before this class is taken it is strongly recommended that the technician attend the 4.5 day Industrial Generator and Controls school. Certification Course - Industrial Automatic Transfer Switch 2 Day - $300 8:30 am to 4:00 pm Daily Testing on following: - S340 logic - M340 logic - MPAC logic - MPAC Setup software - Open Transition switch - Programmed Transition switch - Bypass Switches Testing will include both written and live equipment troubleshooting. Required equipment: Student must be registered to receive the CD/DVD service file. Technician must bring laptop computer and most recent release of CD/DVD service file TP-1100-CDX or DVDX to complete written test. To complete the live equipment troubleshooting portion of the testing the technician will need the most recent release of Program Loader software and MPAC Setup software. Before this class is taken it is strongly recommended that the technician attend the 4.5 day Industrial ATS class. Note: Technician must score at minimum 80% to attain certification. Certificates will be mailed to the technician after successful completion of the testing.

7 FAQ Factory Service Schools What does the tuition fee include? Classroom materials, daily continental breakfast and lunch. Laptop computers are required for factory training classes. A Service Literature DVD will be provided in most training classes. What about transportation, meals and lodging? Transportation, lodging and additional meals are the responsibility of the student. When should I register? All class enrollments are on a first-come, first serve basis. Tuition fees are due at the time of registration. Registration must be made using the registration form. How do I know I m registered? Upon receipt of your registration and tuition fee, we will mail a confirmation booklet to your attention outlining the course, motel and travel information. Who can attend? Kohler distributors, dealers and end customers may register and attend service classes. Dealers and end customers must submit their requests through the appropriate Kohler distributor. Kohler Co. reserves the right to accept or reject applications from anyone other than authorized Kohler Power Systems distributors. What if the class I want is full? Maximum enrollment for each training class is 12 students. When a class is full, registrations (as received) will be accepted, should there be cancellations. Distributors will be notified if changes are possible. What if I cancel? If a student cancels less than 10 days prior to the start of a class, their tuition fee will be forfeited. Substitutes from the same company will be allowed. Can Kohler cancel a class? The Kohler Generator Division reserves the right to cancel a class due to insufficient enrollment. A minimum of 8 people is considered necessary to conduct a training program, and in the event of a cancellation, the student s tuition fee will be refunded. The cut-off date for a class cancellation will be no less than 21 days prior to the class starting date. Kohler Co. will not be responsible for any charges incurred by the student in the event of a class cancellation. This includes advanced airline tickets.

8 Addendum A -John Deere Training Program Kohler Power Systems would like to remind the distribution of the necessary training required to do engine warranty work on John Deere engines. This training is a requirement to properly service EPA Tier III and Tier IV John Deere engines and to maintain authorized service status. If a distributor chooses to not participate in the John Deere engine training, that distributor will no longer be able to perform engine warranty repair through Kohler. What does this means to the distributor and the technician? This training is a continuing process and not a one time school. Training will be focused on specific base engine models and not all models will be offered in the same training course. Expect that your technician will make at least two trips to an authorized training center for this training. As new engines enter our product line additional training may be required. The engine training program will include Distance Learning Modules (DLM) as well as Instructor Led Training (ILT). The DLM on-line training will be driven through the John Deere University Web Site. Before DLM training can take place the technician will need to be given a user ID name to access the John Deere University website. In addition to the engine training the distributor will also need to purchase the John Deere Service Advisor software. Hardware kit GM58675 and software kit GM The software kit does have an annual subscription charge. Service Advisor is required for diagnostics, access to technical publications, Interactive tests, recording data and loading new or updated ECM payloads. The Service Advisor software can only be loaded on one computer and the software is registered in one user s name. Kohler is not requiring every certified technician have Service Advisor but they need to have access to it when performing engine warranty work. When attending the engine training the technician should bring with him the computer that is running Service Advisor along with the diagnostic interface cable. Payment for DLM (on-line) classes and ILT (instructor Led at John Deere) - Kohler receives a quarterly invoice from John Deere for any activity on the John Deere University website by registered users. Kohler will then invoice the distributor for the DLM and ILT classes. By registering and taking a class you agree to the incurred charges. The classes with the TBD dates are Instructor Led classes at the John Deere training center in Waterloo IA or alternative sites. The JDU website will show class dates when registering for a particular class. All prereq classes need to be done prior to registering.
