Mediasite Classroom Recording: Bergstrom TURNING THE SYSTEM ON Media capture recordings are accomplished using the classroom AV touch panel. To begin, the touch panel will need to be woken up and the system turned on. Most likely the screen on the touch panel will be blank when approached (Figure 1.0), as a result of the system sitting idle for a period of time. Touch the screen anywhere to wake the system up. Once the system has been woken up from being touched, the startup screen will appear (Figure 1.1). To turn the system on, touch the Touch to start button. Figure 1.0 Figure 1.1
Once the Touch to start button has been touched, the system will begin to start, and a screen with the message System powering up Please stand by... will appear as well as a progress bar below it (Figure 1.2). After the system has finished starting up, the next screen that appears will be the Main Menu, which means that the system has successfully been turned on. Figure 1.2 2
2.0 ACCESSING THE CAMERA AND MEDIASITE CONTROLS After a successful startup of the system, the Main Menu will be displayed on the touch panel (Figure 2.0). To access to the Camera and Mediasite controls, touch the Utilities button (Figure 2.1). Figure 2.0 Figure 2.1 To open controls to adjust the camera position touch the Camera button (Figure 2.2). To open controls to start, stop or pause a recording, touch the Mediasite button (Figure 2.3). Figure 2.2 Figure 2.3 The current camera position will be determined by the last person to move the camera. As a result, it is best practice to preview the current camera position to determine if there are adjustments that need to be made before starting a recording. (Instructions for previewing and adjusting the camera position are provided in Section 3.0.) 3
3.0 CAMERA CONTROLS Once the Camera utility has been selected, as detailed in Section 2.0, a page will open that provides the user with controls for positioning the camera (Figure 3.0), and a preview of the current camera position will be displayed on the instructor computer monitor for use in adjusting the camera position. Figure 3.0 4
Table 3.0 below shows the relationship between each button and its corresponding function. To perform each function, touch the button of the corresponding function you wish to perform. 6 4.0 MEDIASITE CONTROLS CAUTION! Before recording, make sure to check the current position of the camera (Section 3.0). Anyone using this room has the ability to reposition the camera, so it is possible that the camera may not be aligned to the center of the room or to the podium. Once the Mediasite utility has been selected, as detailed in Section 2.0, a page will open that provides the user with controls for starting, stopping and pausing a recording (Figure 4.0). Figure 4.0 NOTE: The word IDLE may appear below the Record, Stop and Play buttons on the Mediasite utility page, or as in Figure 4.0 no text may appear below the buttons. It does not make a difference as to which way the page appears, in either case Mediasite is ready to record. 6
Table 4.0 below shows the relationship between each button and its corresponding function. To perform each function, touch the button of the corresponding function you wish to perform. Table 4.0 Button Function Starts a new recording OR resumes a paused recording Stops recording and uploads the recording to MyCourses Pauses the recording Returns the touch panel to the Main Menu 7
4.1 RECORD Once one of the buttons on the Mediasite page has been touched (Figure 4.0/Table 4.0), the touch panel will display the status of the Mediasite recorder. After the Record button has been touched, the word RECORDING will appear below the Record, Stop and Pause buttons on the Mediasite page, and the word Recording will appear in red lettering in the upper right hand corner of the touch panel (Figure 4.1). When a recording is in progress, the red Recording in the upper right hand corner of the touch panel, will also be displayed on the Main Menu to indicate that Mediasite is currently recording (Figure 4.2). Figure 4.1 Figure 4.2 No content will be recorded until the red Recording lettering is present in the upper right hand corner of the touch panel. Once the record button has been touched and the red Recording lettering is present in the upper hand corner of the touch panel, Mediasite will record everything in the camera frame, the PC (instructor computer) content and all audio captured by the ceiling mounted microphones. NOTE: Even if the PC is not displaying on the instructor monitor, or is selected to display via the projector, Mediasite will still record the PC. It is not possible to disable recording of the PC or to set Mediasite to record an alternate source. 8
4.2 STOP After the Stop button has been touched, Mediasite will stop the recording and upload the recording to MyCourses. The red Recording lettering will disappear from the upper right hand corner of the touch panel and a cycle of statuses will appear below the Record, Stop and Pause buttons on the Mediasite page (Figure 4.3/Figure 4.4). Figure 4.3 Figure 4.4 NOTE: Once a recording has been stopped, it is not possible to start that recording again. It is possible to prevent Mediasite from recording unwanted content and retain the ability to add to the recording by pausing a recording (Section 4.3). 9
4.3 PAUSE After the Pause button has been touched, Mediasite will pause the recording. The red Recording lettering will disappear from the upper right hand corner of the touch panel and the word PAUSED will appear below the Record, Stop and Pause buttons on the Mediasite page (Figure 4.5). Figure 4.5 Pausing a recording allows the user to prevent Mediasite from recording unwanted content simultaneously providing the user the ability to add to the recording after the record point when the recording is resumed. To resume a paused recording, touch the Record button. After the Record button has been touched, the word RECORDING will appear below the Record, Stop and Pause buttons on the Mediasite page, and the word Recording will appear in red lettering in the upper right hand corner of the touch panel (Figure 4.1), indicating that the recording has been resumed and that Mediasite is once again recording. NOTE: Pressing the Pause button will not un-pause a recording. To resume recording after touching the Pause button, the Record button must be touched. 10
