Course Description & Introduction Internet Protocol addressing techniques, command line interface configuration of switches, Ethernet switching, and protocols associated with Virtual Local Area Networks (VLANs). V. Learning Outcomes The student will: A. Install and configure switches and routers in multiprotocol internetworks B. configure VLAN protocols VI. Assessment Methods & Grading Policy There are two types of weekly assessments and a validation. Quizzes containing various types of questions (Multiple Choice, Matching, Short Answer, Essay) used to reinforce course material. Graded on a scale. Labs containing various hands-on activities to reinforce course material and prepare for validation. Graded on a scale. Validation: Validation consists of a hands-on lab done individually and without assistance, but in the presence of the instructor to assess the student s knowledge on course material. Graded on a scale. Grades earned in validation count as two weekly assessment grades. Extra Credit:

3 Course Syllabus _ Page 3 Discussion questions generated from student research in current events within the IT field will be used for extra credit. A thoughtful question, answer or reply (ranked by other students) will score 5 points that may be used on any weekly assignment the student chooses. Extra credit cannot be used on validations. Grading Policy: The mean of all weekly assignment and validation grades will be the final average. If an assignment is late, 20 points will be deducted following the due date. Assignments submitted later than one week after the due date will not be accepted. Grades may be found, updated weekly, in the student gradebook at VIII. IX. Class Participation Policy & Student Conduct Attendance during scheduled class time is mandatory. If the student is to miss a class period, he or she must inform the instructor, via , (leo.chavez@tstc.edu) that this will occur. If an is not received before the class period, 20 points may be deducted from all assignments given during that week. XI. Safety Campus building occupants are required to evacuate buildings when a fire alarm activates. Alarm activation or announcement requires exiting and assembling outside. Familiarize yourself with all exit doors of each classroom and building you may occupy while receiving instructions. The nearest exit door may not be the door you used when entering the building. Students requiring evacuation assistance should inform the instructor during the first week of class. In the event of evacuation, follow the faculty s or class instructor s instructions. Do Not re-enter a building unless given instructions by the Fire Department, Campus/Local Police, or Fire Prevention Services. XII.
