1 Cisco Academy Year 2 Instructor: Shade Adeleke *Parents, please read the following with your student and sign.* Course Description: The second year of the Cisco Networking Academy Program CCNA 5.0 curriculum consists of course 2 (Routing and Switching Essentials), Course 3 (Scaling Networks) and Course 4 (Connecting Networks). This year of the program prepares students to take the ICND1 and ICND 2 certification exams. Students passing both the ICND 1(CCENT certification) and ICND 2 will become CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) certified. These sequence of courses is an excellent pathway to the study of Computer engineering, Cybersecurity, Applied Information Systems, Information Systems or Information Technology at the university level. An articulation agreement is available with AACC for students who complete Year 1 and 2 of the program. Students could earn up to 15 credits from AACC. For more information on earning credits from AACC visit Instructional Philosophy: Each student is expected to attend class every day, arrive prepared with the required materials, participate in class activities, review materials introduced and complete all homework assignments to reinforce activities covered in class. Instruction will be delivered addressing various learning styles. Students will work with independent activities or with their peers in groups after being introduced to subject matter. The students will be assessed using multiple tools, including audiovisual, practical applications, written, and industry-standard online assessments. Students must have access to the Internet at home and must possess a personal computer because the curriculum is entirely online. Access to learning management sites like Cisco Netspace is required for this course because assignments will be given primarily using this website. Year 2 students should already have the login information. If a student has any issues with online access at home, please inform the instructor IMMEDIATELY. Instructional Environment: We will be working with very expensive and delicate equipment. Students will need to adhere to the following guidelines: Maintain a professional, cooperative, and mutually supportive environment at all times. All school system and building protocols are to be followed to the letter. Any food or drink is not permitted around the computers in the classroom. Remember, working in Information Technology (IT) involves people first; if we are to work well together, we must be an effective team. Required Fees: Students are required to take at least one certification exam (ICND1 or ICND2) at the end of the course. Fees cost $150 each for the ICND1 and ICND2 exam. Students who pass the final exams on each course with 75% on the first attempt are eligible for a 58% discount on certification exam

2 fees. Students will be required to purchase certification practice tests, the cost of the practice test will be communicated to parents as soon as it is finalized. Content Outline: The year 2 curriculum requires students to complete courses 2, 3 and 4. The curriculum is located at Year 2 students have the user name and password for the online curriculum already from year 1. The course outline for courses 2, 3 and 4 are listed below. To qualify, students must have completed and submitted the original assessment, activity, or assignment by the due date and must have participated in the teacher-facilitated reteaching (before, during, or after school) within five school days following the return of the original graded work. Within ten school days of receiving the returned original graded work, students must complete and submit the new assessment, activity, or assignment. The higher grade shall be the grade of record. Work eligible for re-assessment: Classwork, homework, quizzes and unit tests. Work not eligible for re-assessment: Quarterly assessments and Semester Exams. Group Work Grades On occasion, students will be asked to work in small groups on a variety of assignments. In those cases, each student will be individually assessed and assigned a grade that reflects their own level of success in meeting the outcomes for that particular assignment. 7. Academic Integrity A student who exhibits academic dishonesty, as determined by the teacher and administrator will receive a zero on the particular assessment/assignment in question. Violations of the Academic Integrity Policy and Regulation may result in disciplinary action. Consequences for violations may vary according to the severity of the violation and shall follow the progressive interventions and discipline as outlined in the Student Code of Conduct.
