SEMESTER(S) OFFERED: Fall G. HOURS OF LECTURE, LABORATORY, RECITATION, TUTORIAL, ACTIVITY: 2 hours lecture and 3 hours laboratory per week H. CATALOG DESCRIPTION: A course designed to focus on instrumentation and process control used in an industrial environment. Students will gain an understanding of instrumentation utilized in process control, control loop tuning and the use of automatic controls. Students will calibrate and document results to industrial standards for temperature, pressure, level and flow control loops. Students will be introduced to Labview software and interface with data collection hardware. I. PRE-REQUISITES/CO-REQUISITES: ELEC 261 Electricity or permission of instructor. J. GOALS (STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES): By the end of this course students will be able to: Course Objective a. define what instrumentation is and its application in manufacturing. b. identify the major components within a control loop. c. identify the processes that can be controlled in an industry d. draw and interpret P&ID s (process instrumentation diagram) e. perform zero and span calibration procedures on at least three elements. f. apply P, I, D functions in loop tuning.
