11 Highlight Activities October 2010 October 2011 SNIA Strategy Committee completes a , Three-Year Strategic Plan which Confirms previous Mission Statement and Core Platforms, but, recognizes the emergence of Service Providers and Cloud technology. Effort includes extensive Member Survey Cloud Storage Initiative (CSI), CDMI (Cloud Data Management Interface) Specification and Reference Implementation is adopted for commercial application; Cloud Plugfests are conducted in the U.S., Europe, and China; 2 nd Cloud Burst Summit in Santa Clara is wellattended, includes a Plugfest and is simulcasted globally Green Storage Initiative (GSI), SNIA Energy Measurement Specification, power supply efficiency testing in concert with EPA EnergyStar is developed as SNIA Emerald Program is advanced and ready for launch at SNW Education Programs evolve with assistance from Paul Talbut, contracted as Global Education Director. e-courses are successful and CompTIA Strategic Alliance for Foundations as CompTIA Storage + Powered by SNIA completes Examination and Beta review - ready for international launch in January, 2012; SNIA Tutorials remain popular at industry-wide events; and SNIA Dictionary continues as a recognized industry resource
12 Highlight Activities October, 2010 October, 2011 Successful 8 th Annual Storage Developer Conference in Santa Clara exceeds it sponsorship and attendance goals and includes successful CIFS/SMB/SMB2 Plugfest SNIA engages The Pulse Network for video-capture of SDC and Cloud Burst Summit sessions and interviews; Increase in SNIA Tutorial Video offering South East Asia (including Malaysia Chapter) emerge and Brazil continues to evolve from Provisional status. SNIA Board and Technical Council had a Delegation to China where participants supported SNW China events in Beijing and Shanghai Solid State Storage Initiative (SSSI), SSS Performance Measurement Specification program continues to be established and SSSI offers industry education, whitepapers, tutorials Storage Management Initiative (SMI) continues to drive storage management with SMI-S 1.6 and beyond, SMI-Lab, CTP 1.5 and on-going efforts to promote industry adoption of SMI-S.

OVERVIEW Education and certification programs are broadly valued Communication is key, both vendor neutral peer networking and connecting with members Events are important, but balance attention with standards and other marketing work Standards, technical work and compliance each member values different things
21 What did You Tell Us in the 2011 Member and Primary Rep Survey? Education and Certification Programs Education is evaluated as bright spot in general as an import thing that SNIA is doing well with overall. Suggestions for improvement included: - Refresh content and succeed with CompTIA alliance - Add new credentials such as Storage Security - target outside of storage industry insiders Communication - Social networking Popular responses to multiple questions summarized: - SNIA should embrace and utilize all aspects - Viewed an importing to improve our position in the industry
22 What did You Tell Us in the 2011 Member and Primary Rep Survey? Communication with and by Members Characterized as acceptable and viewed as very important to keep Members aware of activities, new technical work, etc. Summary of key observations: - Communication is viewed as an important value to members - Members recognized importance of advising on adoption matters - Communication is part of connecting storage to business - Communication should support Member and Volunteer recognition - Frequency and content of SNIA communiques and s seen as fine SNIA Events - Importance of SNW was acknowledged as well as value of SDC - Questions regarding the balance of events being possibly too heavy in SNIA s marketing mix were asked
23 What did You Tell Us in the 2011 Member and Primary Rep Survey? Standards, Technical Work and Compliance Mixed feedback in this survey section: - Some members feel that the work in current technical areas is sufficient and focused on right set of technologies (e.g., Cloud with CDMI and Green with efforts with EPA) - Some members suggest more focus and more adherence to interoperability considerations Relevance of SNIA (to the Storage Industry) Mixed opinions in this survey section as well: - Some urge the Association to embrace fewer activities and technical areas and do them better, with more industry impact, etc. - Others advocate for SNIA to seek expanded technologies and programs
24 SNIA Fiscal Report Notes: 1. SNIA sustained a multi-year investment cycle by spending down 2. SNIA is weathering the current industry M&A with careful, effective controls 3. FY11 ends 11/30/11; plans to end net positive; 1 st positive year since FY08 4. Membership, F&I and SNW revenue grew by 4.9% in FY10 compared to FY09 5. Reserve investment portfolio change in April 11 resulted in 2x rev/mth over FY10
25 Summary 2011 was a year of sustained financial prudence and performance. The SNIA staff and operations reorganization of 2009 aligned the expense and contributions of resources with a predictable and manageable contributions from member fees and event revenue. SNIA Staff had no attrition and we added three key Contractors 2011 was an important year as SNIA continued to pursue its strategic programs to reinforce the value of linking core storage technologies and standards with upper layers of management functions for data and information CSI, GSI, SSSI, SMI 2012 will present interesting opportunities and challenges (for SNIA and the storage market). However, the still sensitive economic situation mandates that we continue to carefully apply our resources to our priorities. Finally We could not do the work of the SNIA without our passionate and dedicated volunteers, some of whom will be specially recognized at our January Symposium in San Jose The support and loyalty of all SNIA members and volunteers is appreciated
