1 Name of Regulated Qualification: BIIAB Level 4 Diploma In Professional Competence for IT and Telecoms Professionals (PROCOM) (QCF) Level: 4 Ofqual Qualification number: 601/6521/2 What is the main purpose of this qualification? To confirm occupational competence and/or 'licence to practise' How long will the qualification take to achieve? The qualification requires a minimum of 323 Guided Learning Hours (the number of hours where you will be given guidance, usually by a tutor, in order to achieve the outcomes) and approximately 800 hours in total (1 credit is roughly equivalent to 10 hours of learning time). Some people learn more quickly or are more experienced than others so it may take you more or less time than 800 hours to achieve this qualification. What job role will it help me enter? This qualification will help you to develop the knowledge and skills relating to the skills required by ICT professionals. Examples of relevant job roles include: Systems analysts Database administrators Web designers Software developers What does the qualification cover? This qualification aims to build on and improve your overall knowledge and understanding of IT. There are two mandatory units for this qualification: Health and Safety in ICT Develop own effectiveness and professionalism The remaining units within the qualification are optional units, and as such will reflect your areas of interest in developing or improving. Please see the Appendix for the list of optional units.
2 Is this the right qualification for me? You should undertake this qualification if you want to gain the knowledge and skills relating to the use of ICT systems and principles. You should do this Diploma sized qualification if you are prepared to undertake 323 hours of guided learning. If you feel this is too much at this time, you could consider focussing on select units from this qualification instead, or on doing a smaller qualification such as: BIIAB Level 2 Diploma In Professional Competence for IT and Telecoms Professionals (PROCOM) (QCF) 601/6450/5 This qualification provides the learner with the knowledge of ICT systems and principles at level 2, but also allow for future progression. If you feel that this may be too easy for you, perhaps as a manager your role is more strategic you should perhaps look to do a Management qualification at Level 5 such as the BIIAB Level 5 Diploma in Management and Leadership (QCF) 601/6773/7. Is this qualification in an apprenticeship? Yes. This qualification is part of the Higher Apprenticeship for IT, Software, Web & Telecoms Professionals in England, and also the Higher Apprenticeship for IT, Software, Web & Telecoms Professionals (Wales). You may wish to do this qualification as part of the Apprenticeship, or on its own. You may wish to do the qualification on its own (eg outside of an Apprenticeship) if: you do not want to do the other qualification that makes up the apprenticeship you do not have the time to do the main qualification that makes up the apprenticeship, for example if you work part-time you do not feel the need to undertake Functional Skills you feel you will be unable to achieve the Functional Skills requirements but are able to, and still wish to, achieve a nationally recognised regulated qualification at this level you do not qualify to undertake a publicly funded Apprenticeship, for example if you are too young your employer wants you to just do the qualification and not undertake a full Apprenticeship
3 What could this qualification lead to? This qualification shows you have gained Level 4 knowledge and skills about ICT systems. It may help you to get a job within the ICT sector, to improve your performance at work or be promoted. If, upon completion, you wish to further develop the knowledge you have gained, you may be ready to progress to a higher level, for example by undertaking the following qualification: BIIAB Level 5 Diploma in Management and Leadership (QCF) 601/6773/7 This qualification is suited for those who may have a more strategic role within an organisation.
