2 ITSSv6: Fact sheet IPv6 ITS Station Stack for Cooperative ITS FOTs Duration: 36 months (Feb Jan. 2014) Budget / EC funding: 2.5 M / 1.8 M PMs Call : ICT for Mobility, Environmental Sustainability and Energy Efficiency FP7 STREP Grant n Partners: INRIA, Institut Telecom, Univesidad de Murcia, lesswire, SZTAKI, BlueTechnix, IPTE : public material will be available from March 2012 Objective: Provide C-ITS FOTs with a robust, performant and secure implementation of ISO/ETSI ITS station IPv6 networking ITSSv6 builds the IPv6 ITS station stack on existing standards from ETSI, ISO & IETF and IPv6 software available from CVIS & GeoNet projects. 2

8 ITSSv6: Duties Gathering third party users into a common User Forum to collect user's requirements Enhancement of existing IPv6-related ITS station standards and specification of missing features Implementing IPv6-related ITS station standards Validation of the implementation and scientific assessment of its performance Porting the IPv6 station stack to selected third party platforms (C-ITS FOTs) Supporting third parties in the use of the IPv6 ITS station stack (training and assistance) 8

14 ITSSv6: Disclaimer ITSSv6 is not going to solve everything for IPv6 to work properly for Cooperative ITS ITSSv6 is going to feed ISO/CEN/ETSI standards ITSSv6 is only implementing on Linux ITSSv6 is not implementing the IPv6 features from scratch ISO 21210, 16788, 16789, ETSI TS ,... Decision to adopt our recommendations is not ours Implementation from scratch has some benefits but would require too much resources for a STREP Cooperative ITS IPv6 standards testing suite needed (to be handled by ETSI) 14

20 Cooperative ITS: Vision All ITS stations (vehicles, roadside, central, ) will once be connected to the Internet and possibly made of several networked components (nodes) Router (OBU/RSU) managing communications Host Application Units (AU) running ITS applications Host Hand-held devices running multimedia applications Host Gateway between IP and CAN and proprietary networks IP-based communications require IPv6 IPv4 cannot meet ITS requirements e.g millions vehicles by 2030 at current trend Only IPv6 is considered in standard ITS architectures (ISO/ETSI/IEEE) 20

21 Cooperative ITS: IPv6 Convergence IP is required in Cooperative ITS standards For traffic efficiency / comfort mobility / non time-critical safety applications IPv4 cannot meet ITS requirements 1200 millions vehicles by 2030 at current trend Only 232 = addresses for all usages Currently being replaced by new IP version: IPv6 IPv6 provides: IPv = up to / m2 New features required for scalable ITS deployment Natural convergence (ITS sectors and non-its sectors) 21
