Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems ITS (C-ITS) is a subset of ITS in which information is communicated and shared between ITS station applications to facilitate actions and decisions that improve ITS safety, sustainability, efficiency and comfort beyond that achievable by stand-alone systems. 9 C-ITS Local Dynamic Map LDM is the data store enabling sharing of data. LDM contains geo-referenced, time-stamped data objects (=LDM Data Objects). LDM may also contain static info, e.g. road maps, points of interest,... ITS-S application processes can write data into an LDM query data in an LDM subscribe at an LDM for notification of updates of data objects Access to LDM is secured. 18 PT1604 standard PT1604 is drafting a CEN/ISO Technical Specification: TS "Co-operative systems Definition of a global concept for a local dynamic map which will be upgraded to EN/ISO standards. EN will be the globally applicable specification for a Local Dynamic Map used in ITS station units for C-ITS. PT1604 is funded by the EC under mandate M/453. 21 PT1604 LDM data TS is in support of existing data dictionaries and newly designed data dictionaries. An ITS message set is synonym to an ITS data dictionary. Data stored in an TS LDM are geo-referenced and timestamped. TS supports several geo-reference coordinate systems. TS defines the smallest data element ("atomic LDM element") that can be stored in an LDM as a self-contained data element, i.e. its proper interpretation does not require knowledge of an additional context. 22 PT1604 Implementation scenarios TS supports distributed implementations of an ITS station unit (ITS-SU), i.e. allows for one or several ITS station communication units (ITS-SCU) per ITS-SU (ISO 21217, ISO , CEN/ISO TS 17419). 25 PT1604 liaisons PT1604 maintains a liaison with ETSI TC ITS who develops EN "Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS); Vehicular Communications; Basic Set of Applications; Local Dynamic Map (LDM)". The current draft EN is restricted to ETSI message sets and to a single-box implementation of an ITS-S. PT1604 maintains a liaison with ISO TC204 WG3 on LDM. 31 ITS-S architecture (ISO 21217) The ITS-S is defined as a Bounded Secured Managed Domain. There are many other stations used in ITS already today, which are not following the principles of BSMD. Nevertheless communications between ITS-SUs = BSME and other ITS station units has to be possible. September 2013 PT1604: "LDM for C-ITS" - BME 31

32 Classification & management of ITS applications (PT1601 TS 17419) C-ITS uses ITS-S applications and communications between ITS-SUs on the basis of TRUST (BSME). To establish trust requires globally unique identifiers which are both internal and external to ITS-SUs, related registries, certification labs, trust authorities and a public key infrastructure. 33 ITS station management Several management issues are identified: Local station management including interference and channel congestion management (ISO ) Access technology management (ISO 21218) Remote station management (ISO ) Station-internal management communications (ISO ) Path and flow management (ISO ) Management of service advertisement (ISO ) Management service access points (ISO ) Early implementations do not need to implement all of this. 34 ITS application requirements for selection of communication profiles (CEN/ISO TS 17423) Connects applications to communications in a future-proof way: ITS-S application process present requirements and objectives for communications to the ITS-S management ITS-S management continuously monitors status of available communication tools. ITS-S management continuously monitors regulations and policies. ITS-S management automatically selects and updates appropriate communication protocol stacks for all flows of ITS-S application processes, see also ISO September 2013 PT1604: "LDM for C-ITS" - BME 34

35 Local dynamic map (PT1604 TS 18750) Local Dynamic Map for global usage in C-ITS. describes the functionality of a "Local Dynamic Map" (LDM) in the context of the "Bounded Secured Managed Domain" (BSMD) specifies the interfaces in an ITS station (ITS-S) used to access an LDM for write access, read access (query), subscription access (notify changes / updates), management access, e.g. to get updates of policies and regulations, specifies procedures in an LDM considering means to maintain the content and integrity of the data store, keep the content up to date, apply regulations and policies, ensure necessary privacy and security. 36 ITS-S facilities layer communication management (CEN/ISO TS 17429) Defines procedures to manage flow of data inside the ITS-S facilities layer in receive mode and transmit mode. 37 Scenarios & Technologies Required and feasible C-ITS scenarios & technologies: Single-hop communications using FSAP (ISO ) over FNTP (ISO ) and 5 GHz (ISO 21215) - harmonized with IEEE WAVE (1609.3). Roadside Vehicle: Short sessions similar to EFC sessions and local information dissemination (e.g. SPAT at intersections). Usage of 5,9 GHz and BRAN bands. Vehicle Vehicle: Information dissemination (e.g. BSM / CAM / DENM) may flood the channel, thus not recommended in the way as it is currently defined at ETSI. 38 Scenarios & Technologies End-to-end communication (e.g. Vehicle Central) using IPv6 (ISO 21210, ISO 16788, ISO 16789, ISO 18378, ISO and others) over cellular technology (GSM / LTE) and Internet. Using IPv6 over CN and Internet to reach remote destinations Ordinary hot-spot communications (WiFi) with nonmoving stations GHz seems to be a useful frequency band for C- ITS, but almost no standards activity on it.
