2 Self Service Installation Guide 2 Time to Connect with EarthLink! Your Project Manager will schedule an appointment with our Service Activation department. A technician will work with you and your IT/phone vendor to install your new Hosted Voice service with your existing Internet Connection. Be sure your IT and Phone vendors are on site Distribute and assemble your IP Phones Confirm access to your routers, firewalls or other network equipment that will need configuration changes If needed, contact your previous provider to setup Call Forwarding to an alternate number during the Service Activation Remember to allow enough time to prepare for the activation ahead of your scheduled appointment. Equipment The following shows the various IP Phones and Optional Equipment you can expect to receive. IP Phones Aastra 6731i/6757i/6739i Polycom Soundpoint 335/550/650 Polycom Soundstation 6000 Panasonic KX-TGP500 Optional Equipment Aastra Sidecar Polycom Sidecar Power Adapter

3 Self Service Installation Guide 3 Step 1 Assemble your New Phones Remove your new phones from their boxes and follow the included instructions to assemble the phones and then place them at the final install location. The boxes will be labeled with the phone number to help you identify their placement. Step 2 Call EarthLink Service Activation Call in to the Service Activation Department for your scheduled activation aapointment. An EarthLink technician will walk your IT vendor through connecting your phones and computers to the EarthLink switch. EarthLink strongly recommends your IT vendor be present to make any configuration changes to your existing equipment. Step 3 Connect Hosted Voice Phones You may be connecting either a Polycom or Aastra model IP phone. The port layout on the phones may vary, but all phones will have a LAN port and a PC port Depending on how your office network is wired, you may have one or more network jacks per desk. If there is only one network cable to each workstation it is referred to as a Single Run network. If there are two or more then the network would be considered Dual Run. Single Run (One Network Jack) Existing cable to Ethernet Jack 1. Unplug the cable that connects your computer to the network from the back of your computer and plug it into the PC port on your new phone. 2. Connect one end of the supplied network cable to the PC port of the phone and the other end to your computer. Provided Ethernet Cable To Ethernet Jack Dual Run (Two or more Network Jacks) Voice Jack 1. Connect one end of the supplied network cable to the PC port of the phone and the other end to the voice network jack. * *If you have an existing phone plugged into the voice network jack you will need to unplug that first. Data Jack Existing Connection to PC i If needed, a power adapter will be included with your phone. If no power adapter was included the phone will get power from the EarthLink switch after completing Step 4.

4 Self Service Installation Guide 4 Connecting a Cordless Access Point The cordless handsets communicate back to a centralized access point that wil connect to the network like other IP phones. Ensure that you install the access point near the handsets to acheive the desired coverage area. Install the Access Point Provided Ethernet Cable 1. Connect one end of the supplied network cable to the LAN port on the access point. 2. Connect the other end to an available LAN jack. 3. Connect the Power Adapter to the access point and plug the other end to an electrical outlet. To install the handsets simply connect power to each handset by plugging in the included adapters to the back of the handset cradles. i The access point should be placed as close as possible to the handsets for the highest voice quality Connecting a Conference Phone There are two ways to connect your phone to the network and a power source. The phone could be connected to a Power over Ethernet (PoE) capable network jack or with an external Power Insertion Cable. Power over Ethernet (PoE) Provided Ethernet Cable 1. Connect one end of the supplied network cable to the LAN port on the phone. 2. Connect the other end to an available LAN jack. PoE Enabled Ethernet Jack Power via AC Adapter 1. Connect one end of the supplied network cable to the LAN port on the phone. 2. Connect the other end to the Power Insertion Cable. 3. Connect the Power Insertion Cable to an available LAN jack. 4. Connect the Power Adapter to the Power Insertion Cable. 5. Connect the Power Adapter to the wall outlet.

5 Self Service Installation Guide 5 Step 4 Now that your IP phones are installed they must be connected to the EarthLink switch to power up and establish service. 1. Identify the network cables leading to your phones in your equipment room. LAN Ports 2. Disconnect the cables from your existing switch or patch panel. 3. Plug the cable into an available LAN port on the EarthLink switch. 4. To finalize the changes to your network and restore Internet access, connect the Ethernet cable from your current Internet Service Providers modem/ router to the EarthLink switch. i If a cordless access point or Analog Telephone Adapter (ATA) was needed, they will already be plugged in to reserved ports. These devices should always connect to those reserved LAN ports. Step 5 Connect Analog Voice Devices Analog telephone devices such as fax and credit card machines will be delivered via an Analog Telephone Adatper(ATA). You will need to connect a LAN cable from the Internet port on the ATA to an available LAN jack. X LINE 1 LINE 2 Internet port to EarthLink switch DO NOT CONNECT TO THE ETHERNET PORT Depending on how your analog lines are currently terminated in your equipment room, there are a number of ways to connect your equipment to the analog RJ-11 Port. RJ-11 connector 1. Disconnect the cable connected to your existing provider 2. Connect the cable to the appropriate port on the ATA 66-Clip Wire Block 1. Disconnect the wiring connected to your exisitng provider 2. Terminate the wires to a RJ-11 connector 3. Connect the cable to the appropriate port on the ATA! Connecting analog lines may require specialized materials and tools. We strongly recommended that a certified voice vendor complete these connections. If the analog lines do not terminate in the equipment room you can move the ATA to an alternate location and use your existing LAN Ethernet wiring to relocate the ATA so your equipment can be plugged directly into it.

6 PHONEBOOK OK PAUSE Self Service Installation Guide 6 Step 6 Test it out! Test network functionality by placing an outbound call from each phone to ensure they are operational. Verify you can surf the internet from your connected PC (if applicable). Ensure you can place calls to local, long distance, and toll free numbers. P Your Hosted Voice Technician will port your existing numbers (if applicable) over to the new EarthLink service. Once porting is complete, place inbound test calls to each of your lines to verify they are functioning properly. Congratulations! Your EarthLink Hosted Voice Service is now up and running! If you experience any issues after the cutover, please contact your EarthLink Coordinator.
