2 Introduction This Installation Guide will walk you through the easy installation of your new Virtual Communications Express equipment. Set Up My Account and Assign Users Once your equipment has arrived, you can begin to set up users within My Account. Follow the steps outlined in the Administrator Getting Started Guide, which can be found at Take Inventory and Package Contents Refer to your equipment shipping to confirm your shipment was accurate upon arrival. If you require additional equipment, please contact your Verizon sales representative. For all other concerns, please contact your implementation team. 5 Install Your PacketSmart PI-150 Device ThePacketSmart PI-150 device helps ensure you have the highest quality voice service. When necessary, it also helps our technical support teams troubleshoot - taking the burden off of you. Important Information: PacketSmart PI-150 Device Pre-Installation Since the device must be installed in-line on your network, your Internet connection will be unavailable while installing it. If you do not have a network switch, you will not be able to insert the PacketSmart device into your network. Port A should always connect to the Local Area Network (LAN) or internal side of your network. A typical example is a switch. Port B should always connect to the Wide Area Network (WAN) or Internet side of your network. Examples include your ISP router or firewall. 1 2 Connect Port A Connect Port B 3 Connect Power Adapter Using an Ethernet cable, connect Port A to the Internet, WAN, or Uplink port on your network switch. If none of these ports exists, plug into any available port on your switch. Using an Ethernet cable, connect Port B to the Ethernet or LAN port on your Internet service provider s cable modem or router. Connect the power adapter to the 5VDC power port and connect to an electrical outlet. 4 PacketSmart PI-150 is successfully installed If you have correctly installed the PacketSmart PI-150 device, the following messages will appear on the screen: 5

6 Install Your Polycom SoundPoint IP Phone (335, 450, and 650) 1 Use the Handset Cord 2 Use the Ethernet Cable 3 Use the AC Power Adapter 4 Phone Stand 5 Power Up Process 6 Installation Complete Plug the handset cord into the handset port. Plug the other end into the bottom of the handset. Plug the Ethernet cable into the LAN port on the phone. Plug the other end into your Internet router or an Ethernet connection. Note: You must be connected to the Internet for the phones to work. If you have a PC positioned near the phone and wish to share one LAN connection between the phone and the PC, plug the existing Ethernet cable from the jack into the LAN port of the phone. Use the Ethernet cable included in the equipment package, and plug it into the PC port on the phone. Plug the other end of this cable into your PC. The Ethernet LAN connection will daisy chain between the phone and the PC. Plug the AC Power Adapter into a 24V DC port. Plug the other end into an electrical outlet. Attach the stand by inserting the top of the stand into the bottom of the phone, and press up to click the stand into place. Powering up will take approximately 2-4 minutes. During this process, the following series of words will appear on the display: Welcome Waiting for network to initiate Loading application Running 6

7 Install Your Polycom SoundPoint IP Expansion Model 1 Remove the rubber plug from the IP 650 phone. 2 Align the expansion module at the groove lines on the SoundPoint IP 650 phone and slide unit downward until it clicks into position. Connect the base. 3 To connect up to three expansion modules together, repeat steps 1 and 2. 7

8 Install Your Polycom SoundStation Use the 25-foot network cable Use the 25-foot network cable Use the power insertion cable Connect one end of the 25-foot network cable to the LAN jack on the phone. Connect the other end of the 25-foot network cable to the power insertion cable. Connect the power insertion cable to an available LAN port on the wall or hub/switch device port. 4 Use the power adapter Connect the power adapter to the power insertion cable. 5 Use the power adapter 6 Power-up process: The phone starts the configuration Connect the power adapter (with the attached regional power cord) to the wall outlet. Powering up will take approximately 2-4 minutes. 10 Install Your Optional Cisco SPA 122 or 8000 Analog Telephone Adapter (ATA) An ATA is an analog adaptor used to connect existing standard (i.e., analog) phone lines or a fax machine to your service using your Internet connection. If you don t have standard phones or fax machines, you don t need an ATA. For Fax Machines: Most fax machines will work on VoIP networks and with the PBX. An analog adapter is required to convert the fax signals from standard telephone signals to VoIP. SuperG3 fax machines (AKA high speed fax or 33.6Kbps fax) are known to not function properly over VoIP networks. This issue is industry wide and not specific to the PBX. The symptoms of this issue are blurry pages, mid call fax drops or complete fax failure. In some cases where a SuperG3 fax machine communicates with a non SuperG3 fax machine, fax calls could complete properly because the lower speed fax machine causes the SuperG3 machine to throttle down to a lower speed. As a result, problems with SuperG3 fax machines could appear to be intermittent. If you have a SuperG3 fax machine, it must be configured to transmit and receive at 14.4Kbps or less. Note: If the settings are low-med-high, try setting to low). If the machine speed cannot be reconfigured, it may not be supportable over VOIP. Refer to your Fax Machine Manual. You must also turn the Error Correction Mode (ECM) to off on the fax. 1 Connect a fax machine or analog phone Use the ports on the device labeled PHONE to connect a fax machine or analog phone with an RJ-11 telephone cable. The SPA 122 has two ports (PHONE 1 and PHONE 2), while the SPA 8000 has eight ports labeled PHONE 1 PHONE 8. 2 Connect to the Internet The INTERNET port connects to your LAN switch or router via a network jack near the installation location of the ATA. 10

11 3 Connect power adapter Connect the power adapter to the power port and connect to an electrical outlet. Your ATA is ready for use. Analog devices such as phones and fax machines are now configured with the Virtual Communications Express service. 11
