1 ACCESS CONTROL SYSTEM OPENGEAR SETUP ACCESS CONTROL SYSTEM OPENGEAR SETUP - CLIENT What is the Daxko Software Cloud Access System Control? Daxko Spectrum Software Cloud Access Control System (ACS) allows a Daxko Software Cloud facility to have member's check-in without the need of a PC like the Member Check-In Module of Spectrum. What is Opengear Access Control? The Daxko Software Opengear ACS is our Cloud Version of the Lantronix ACS. The name of the device used for the Cloud ACS is "Opengear". The Opengear device established a VPN connection to the Daxko Software Server using the VPN Connection that is programmed into the device. This means to operate the Opengear Device, the facility must have an active wired internet connection to the Opengear device. How does a client purchase the Opengear Device? This device can only be purchased through Daxko. If a client purchases their own "Opengear" device, it will not work with our Cloud ACS. The Opengear device is programmed by our DAxko Software IT Team using NG Workstation/Location/Site IDs. This means that each Opengear device is associated with a Spectrum Workstation to record the Member Check-In and uses some of the Spectrum Workstation's Check-In settings. The main Spectrum Check-In settings that affect the Daxko Software Cloud ACS are below. These are found at Site Administration > Check-In Setups > Member Check- In Station Setup. 1

2 What is included in the Opengear Device It will normally be shipped with: Opengear Device 2 Ethernet Wires 2 Ethernet RJ45 to Male DB-9 Serial Adapter Opengar AC Adapter Serial Swiper (If purchased from Daxko) AR-2 Relay (If purchased from DAxko) Note that each Opengear Device is programmed by Daxko IT, and verified working before they are shipped out to the client. Each Opengear Package comes with the 2

3 necessary standard accessories. Serial Swipers/Readers and AR-2 Relays are included if they are purchased from Daxko. If the hardware is not purchased from Daxko, we do not troubleshoot those devices. How to connect/setup the Opengear Device Setup Instructions Connect the Straight Ethernet wire to the back of the Opengear Device. The Straight Ethernet Wire MUST have an Active Internet Connection. Once the Straight Ethernet Wire is connected, it will take anywhere between 5-10 minutes for the VPN on the Open Gear to establish a VPN Connection back to our Daxko Spectrum Software Server. Do not plug in the Straight Ethernet wire and expect it to work right away and do not plug the Straight Ethernet Wire in a PC. 3

4 o The Ethernet port lights will indicate a stable connection has been established when the connection lights are steadily blinking. This can takes anywhere from 5-10 minutes. The Serial Scanner needs to go into Port 1 (labeled 1 on the Opengear), connected using the included Ethernet to DB-9 Serial Adapter. The connection MUST use the included Ethernet to DB-9 Serial adapter. The AR-2 Gate Relay goes into Port 2 (labeled 2 on the Opengear), and is connected using the included Ethernet to DB-9 Serial Adapter. The connection MUST use the included Ethernet to DB-9 Serial adapter. Spectrum does NOT wire or power the AR-2 Relay. The facility will need to hire their own electrician for the wiring. o The AR-2 does NOT come with a power source and must be wired for power and to the Gate/Door/Turnstile by an Electrician. o Click here for the AR-2 Wiring diagram Access Control Client Viewer You can install the Access Control Client Viewer on any PC and it will show all Access Control Gate Activity since the Access Control Devices does not require a PC to operate. This application is only a viewer and is not required. Once the zip file has been downloaded and extract: 1. Run the "Access Control Viewer - Azure Installer" 2. Once installed, when the viewer is launched, enter in the facility "GUID/License" when prompt 3. Exit the client after that. We will need to update the ACS Client with the latest build 4. Open the folder "ACS Client Viewer Update_2014" 5. Copy all the files to folder where the ACS Client Viewer is installed a. Normally found in C:\Program Files (x86)\csi Software\Access Control Viewer (In newer installations: C:\Program Files (x86)\daxko\spectrum\access Control Viewer 6. Once the files have been updated, start the ACS Client Viewer Application 7. Click on "Menu" "Change Site" Select the appropriate Site 8. Click on "Menu" again View Gate Activity and the viewer will display all the Access Control Gates 4

5 **IMPORTANT NOTE** The ACS Client Viewer shows Real-Time Check-Ins if the member checks in via the Opengear device. All ACS Check-Ins will show in the associated Spectrum Check-In Workstation (and Check-In By Location reports) but the Spectrum Check-In Screen does NOT autorefresh so it will not show the latest member check-ins unless the Member Check-In Screen is closed and re-opened. Testing/Using the Opengear ACS Once the Opengear Device is connected (Serial Swiper and AR-2 Relay Connected) and has established a connection to our Spectrum Software ACS Server, it is time to check that the Member Swipes and AR-2 Relay is working. Typical testing steps are below. 1. The Serial Swipe/Scan is not displaying on the ACS Client Viewer a. If a Swipe/Scan is done and nothing shows on the ACS Client Viewer, check the following: i. Does the Opengear Device have an active Internet Connection? 1. Check that the Ethernet Wire has an internet connection ii. Is the Serial Swiper connected in Port 1? 1. The Swiper will ONLY work on Port 1 iii. Is the Serial Swiper connected using the Ethernet RJ45 to DB-9 Serial Adapter that is in the packaging shipped by Daxko? 1. Verify that the connection is using the provided Ethernet RJ45 to DB-9 Serial Adapter and not a 3rd Party Adapter iv. Is this a Serial Swiper (Magstripe) or the Honeywell Barcode Reader (Genesis 7580)? 1. The Swiper/Reader cannot be a USB Model and should be a Swiper/Reader purchased from Daxko. The device must be a Serial Device connected using the Ethernet RJ45 to DB-9 Serial Adapter 2. If the client is using their own Serial Reader/Swiper, they will need to verify that their Serial Device is working and there is no guarantee it will work with the Daxko Opengear device v. Is the Serial Swiper/Reader reading the Card Scans? 1. Test using Hyperterminal or download a Serial Connection Tool to test if they have Windows 7/8/10. Daxko does not provide Serial Connection Tester tools. vi. Is the AR-2 Relay connected to Port 2? 1. The AR-2 will ONLY work on Port 2 5

6 vii. Has the AR-2 Relay been wired by an Electrician? 1. If yes: a. Press "Open Gate" on the ACS Client Viewer. If wired correctly, the "Relay Switch 1 or 2" will light up Red and will make a "Click" sound. 2. If no: a. The facility will need to hire an Electrician to wire the AR-2 Relay. 2. Issue: Swipe/Scan shows on the ACS Client Viewer but the Gate /Door /Turnstile is not opening a. If a Swipe/Scan is done and shows on the ACS Client Viewer but the Gate/Door/Turnstile is not working, check the following: i. In the ACS Client Viewer, if the 'Open Gate' button is pressed, is there a "Click" sound made on the AR-2 Relay? 1. If yes: a. The issue is with the Gate/Door/Turnstile/etc wiring. Their Electrician needs to fix this. 2. If no: ii. Is the AR-2 Relay connected to Port 2? 1. The AR-2 will ONLY work on Port 2 iii. Is the AR-2 connected using the Ethernet to DB-9 Serial Adapter? 1. Verify that the connection is using the provided Ethernet RJ45 to DB-9 Serial Adapter and not a 3rd Party Adapter iv. Has the AR-2 Relay been wired by an Electrician? 1. If yes: a. Press "Open Gate" on the ACS Client Viewer. If wired correctly, the "Relay Switch 1 or 2" will light up Red and will make a "Click" sound. 2. If no: a. The facility will need to hire an Electrician to wire the AR-2 Relay. 3. If the above is checked and everything appears correct, please contact Daxko Spectrum Technical Support for additional assistance. 4. The Gate/Door/Turnstile open duration is too short/long 6

7 a. The Opengear Device is programmed with xx seconds for the Open Duration. The setting is NOT based on the Member Check-In Workstation Setup. i. The "open duration" for the Gate/Door/Turnstile should have been provided to the Facility Manager during the initial setup. If the amount of time needs to be changed, please contact Daxko Technical Support 5: The Gate/Door/Turnstile is staying open a. If the Door/Gate/Turnstile is staying open, the facility will need to check the wiring on the AR-2 Relay to the Door/Gate/Turnstile. b. The Opengear Device and AR-2 Relay does not send any other command besides the Open/Close command. c. If wired incorrectly on the AR-2 Relay, the Open/Close command could be mixed. FAQ: 1. What happens if the client hard resets/wipes the Opengear Device? If the Opengear Device has been hard reset/wiped by the client, then all the settings have been wiped out of the Opengear Device. The facility will need to ship the Opengear Device back to Daxko to have the Opengear Device Re- Programmed. Please contact Daxko Spectrum Technical Support and ask to have the Opengear Device shipped back and re-programmed based on the original settings. 2. Can the USB connection be used on the Opengear Device? No 3. Can the Opengear Device use an Ethernet RJ45 to USB Adapter instead of the Ethernet RJ45 to DB-9 Serial Adapter? No 4. Can ACS do Check-In Members for Services/Prompt for messages or reminders? No. It is only for Member Check-In and will also deny member check-ins if they are invalid. There are no other customizations for the ACS Viewer. 5. Can we use our own hardware for Serial Swiper/Scanner? If the facility uses their own Serial Swiper/Scanner, and it was NOT purchased from Daxko, we do not support it and cannot guarantee it will work with the Opengear Device. 6. Can we use a RFID Reader? 7

8 Yes, if the RFID Reader was purchased from Daxko with the appropriate RFID Card. 7. Can Daxko give us the password to the Opengear Device web login? No. If the client logs into the Opengear Web Login and make changes to the Opengear Device, Daxko will not support any changes made and this may potentially prevent the Opengear Device from functioning. If the Opengear Device stops functioning as a result of changes made in the Web Login, the facility will need to ship the device back to Daxko to have the device re-programmed. 8. The ACS Client Viewer is freezing up/crashing If the ACS Client Viewer is freezing or crashing, attempt re-installing the ACS Client Viewer, re-install.net 4.5.2, update/install all the Visual Studio C++ from 2008 to the latest. If the ACS Client is left open and there are long periods of no member check-in activity on the Opengear, the client viewer will not operate correctly. This is because the ACS Service uses Microsoft IIS to display information on the ACS Client Viewer and IIS has a built-in shut-down function after long periods of inactivity. This is a Microsoft feature and cannot be disabled. 8
