Reeller - HG 1500 Card General Overview June 2003 Prepared by Reeller Sale Support Team
Reeller The purpoe of thi Sale and Application Note i to provide background information, technical and configuration detail and general guidance to reeller ale taff when providing VOIP olution. It complement the information provided on the HG 1500 ale training coure. Hitory The HG (HiPath Gateway) 1500 card wa firt introduced in the autumn of 2000 for ue with verion 2.2 Hicom Office and wa originally known a the Xpre@LAN card. There were two hardware verion of the card, one for the Hicom Office Point / Com and one for the Hicom Office Pro. In technical circle the former card i alo known a the HXGS and the latter a the HXGM. The primary application provided by the card at that time wa upport for the optipoint 300 Advanced IP handet and opticlient 130 oft client. Later in that year the Xpre@LAN card changed it name to the HG 1500 card and with the introduction of HiPath 150 H in the Augut of 2001, became able to upport IP networking. Verion 2 of the card providing a econd Ethernet connection wa releaed in late Technical detail Hardware - the current HG 1500 card continue to be provided in 2 baic hardware verion one for the HiPath 33/35XX (mall format card - HXGS2) and one for the 37XX (large format card - HXGM2). Each card utilie a card lot in the HiPath 3000 chai. Each HG 1500 card ha a unique MAC addre. Connection from the card to the cutomer LAN infratructure i via a tandard RJ 45 patch lead. Each card i ha 2 connector, the firt being a 10 Mbit Ethernet connector and the econd a 10/100 Mbit auto ening Ethernet connector (the firt connector i not generally ued in the UK). Each card alo ha a SLIP connector for initial configuration.
Reeller B channel The HG 1500 Card ue B Channel to communicate between itelf and other device on the HiPath Card are pre configured with either 2, 8 or 16 B channel. Additional B channel can be configured (in tep of 2) uing licening code which are iued againt the MAC addre of the card. The maximum B channel per card i 16. It hould be noted that on HiPath 37XX all 16 B channel can be ued for VOIP related call but on the 33XX and 35XX only 8 can be ued (the ret are ued for non VOIP data connection). Therefore in VOIP only configuration the proviion of more than 8 channel on 33XX and 35XX would be pointle. DSP Chipet DSP tand for Digital Signalling Proceor and are ued to convert tandard TDM voice information into IP packet. The mall format HG 1500 card ued on the HiPath 33XX/35XX ha 4 of thee Chipet and the large format HG 1500 card a ued on the HiPath 37XX ha 8. Each DSP can handle up to 2 imultaneou VOIP call. DSP chipet are not ued on non VOIP call. Analogue Modem Each HG 1500 card ha a number of in built analogue modem chipet which are ued to upport analogue RAS (Remote Acce Server) and Group 3 analogue FAX acce. The mall config card ued by the HiPath 33XX / 35XX ha 2 analogue modem and the large format card ued on the HiPath 37XX ha 3. Where more than one HG 1500 card i ued the modem chipet will be pooled.
Reeller It hould be noted that the maximum combined analogue RAS/FAX call to or from the HiPath 3000 can not exceed the maximum number of modem chipet available. Voice Encoding The HG 1500 card ha 2 encoding codec available. Thee are G711 and G G711 require 64K Bit of bandwidth in each direction of tranmiion. With IP packet overhead thi i increaed to approx 80K Bit (i.e. a total of approx 160K Bit over the LAN). G723.1 compree voice to 6.3 KBit in each direction of tranmiion which increae to approx 24KBit when IP packet overhead are added (i.e. a total of approx 48KBit over the LAN). QOS (Quality Of Service) The HG 1500 card upport IEEE P/Q, Diff Serv (Differentiated Service) and ToS (Type of Service) QOS protocol. It hould be noted that, for QOS to be effective, all equipment in the IP network ued in witching / routing of voice packet will need to conform to the relevant QOS protocol (QOS aware). ISDN Router protocol The HG 1500 card ue PAP (Paword authentication Protocol) and CHAP (Challenge Handhake authentication Protocol). Acce Control Facilitie (Firewall Filtering) include CLI verification, automatic call-back to authoried number, IP or IPX verification and verification of the MAC addre and IP combination.
Reeller Payload Switching Payload Switching (alo known a Peer to Peer working) wa implemented from Verion 3 HiPath IP Adapter / Client / Telephone IP Adapter The IP adapter enabled a conventional optiet / optipoint telephone to be converted to an IP handet that could be connected directly into an IP infratructure. Supported on HiPath 150H and HiPath 3000 Verion 1.2. Not upported on HiPath 3000 verion 3 onward. Support G711 codec only. Not upported on HiPath 3000 V3 onward. IP Client opticlient 130 Supported on Hicom 150H and HiPath Firt verion (V1) ued Java and wa reource hungry. V2 launched in late 2001 ue le reource and quicker to load. Two mode of operation available. The firt, known a opticlient phone interface provide a virtual handet identical in look and operation to an optipoint handet (including up to 4 16 button add on module). In addition ha it own directory and multiple mied call lit. The econd i known a opticlient office interface and provide a more open and flexible interface. opticlient 130 i TAPI compliant. Dialling from MS Outlook databae i poible but for incoming call to automatically pop MS Outlook then ARC creenpop i required. One copy of opticlient 130 i provided FOC with each HG1500 card.
Reeller IP Telephone optipoint 300 advanced Limited feature and functionality withdrawn end 2001 IP Telephone - optipoint 400 HFA (tandard and economy ) and optipoint 600 HFA Baed on H 323 compliant optipoint 400 handet but enhanced uing HFA (Hipath Feature Acce) internal oftware. Feature imilar to optipoint 500 (TDM) handet. OptiPoint 400 tandard upport full handfree working and Incorporate a 10/100 bae T witched hub. optipoint 400 economy ha a loudpeaker but no microphone and doe not incorporate the witched hub. optipoint 600 ha imilar functionality to the 400 tandard but ha dual TDM / IP capability with a large touch enitive diplay. All handet upport G711 / G723.1 and QOS. Configuration The following are the maximum configuration for HG1500 card and IP workpoint client (optipoint 400 / 600 and opticlient 130). HiPath 150H and HiPath 3000 verion 1.2 Office Point / HiPath 33XX 1 card 16 IP device per card (overall ytem maximum 16) Office Com / HiPath 35XX 2 card 16 IP device per card (overall ytem maximum 32) Office Pro / HiPath 37XX 3 card 48 IP device per card (overall ytem maximum 144)
Reeller HiPath 3000 verion 3 HiPath 33XX 2 card 48 IP device per card (overall maximum 96) HiPath 35XX 4 card 48 IP device per card (overall maximum 192) HiPath 37XX 8* card 96 IP device per card (overall maximum 500) *The maximum amount of HG 1500 card in any one cabinet i limited to 6 IP workpoint calculation of HG 1500 B-channel (from V3 oftware) The following table lit the minimum recommended B-channel required for IP workpoint client. IP workpoint client in ytem Required number of B-channel * Thereafter 2 B-channel for every 15 IP workpoint client. Pleae note that in high traffic environment the number of B channel will need to be increaed. *The lat channel i ued to connect MOH to IP workpoint.
Reeller Workpoint client licening (HiPath 3000 V3 onward) From verion 3.0 HiPath 3000 workpoint client are licened. Workpoint client licene are iued againt the MAC addre of the HG 1500 card and are available in the following option. 1 workpoint client licence 10 workpoint client licence 25 workpoint client licence 50 workpoint client licence 100 workpoint client licence 2 inge workpoint client licence are provided FOC with each card. The following information will prove a ueful reference when providing VOIP olution. IP Trunking CorNet N Regardle of the connect type (i.e. via fixed IP link or dial up ISDN) the ignalling ued i CorNet N. Thi i a Siemen proprietary protocol providing a high level of feature tranparency between Siemen PBX. CorNet N ignalling i alo ued on conventional voice (TDM) link between Siemen telephone ytem and the level of functionality i identical. It hould be noted that IP trunking i only upported between HiPath 3000 / HiPath 150H ytem with up to a maximum of 16 node. A CMS (Clock Module Small) i required at all connected node.
Reeller CorNet N feature et between HiPath 3000 ytem include: Hold / Enquiry Tranfer Conference Call back Camp on Meage Send (not abence meaging) Internal name External CLI Break Out Centralied VM Dial up IP Trunking B-channel uage When uing IP trunking over dial up ISDN up to 5 call can be funnelled down a ingle 64K ISDN B channel. However for each call in progre a B- channel i required on the HG 1500 card. In addition a ingle channel i required to provide a ignalling link. E.g. if 5 call are funnelled down a ingle 64K ISDN B-channel than a total of 6 HG1500 B channel will be needed, 1 for ignalling and 5 for the actual call. If 2 call were funnelled down the ingle ISDN B-channel a total of 3 HG1500 b-channel would be needed, 1 for ignalling and the other 2 for the call. Thi conideration applie to both the HG 1500 card (1 at each end of the link). Note: Voice compreion will tend to degrade the overall quality of a call. The more call compreed down a ingle link the greater the reduction in the voice quality.
Reeller Dynamic Hot Configuration Protocol Both the optipoint 130 and optipoint 400 HFA can be ued in a DHCP environment. Cutomer Programming Via LAN The HG 1500 card can alo provide an interface to facilitate cutomer programming (uing Manager C) via any PC on the WAN / LAN (provide the ame functionality a the LIM). IP Speech Quality One of the ide effect of VOIP technology i the delay caued by the converion of digital voice into IP packet and back to digital voice. Network topology and compreion algorithm can alo effect the quality of the end to end connection. Cutomer mut be made aware of thee limitation to prevent any unneceary diatifaction. Network Health Check To enure that a cutomer exiting data infratructure i capable of upporting the deployment of voice traffic, it i recommended that an aement i made of their network, particularly where high level of voice traffic are anticipated. Thi aement, commonly known a a network health check, will determine any technical limitation of their data network that may ignificantly effect the ucceful implementation of a voice over IP olution. Network health check are available a a chargeable ervice from Siemen Communication if required.
