Surge/Spike/Induced [high voltage]]. the occurrence of High and Low voltage spikes, these fluctuations from Induced voltages or our favourite Eskom with Load Shedding - or lightning strikes and induced voltages - cause damage to our sensitive electronic equipment. 220 volt normal Brown Out [low voltage].how! You have a surge which can rise from a couple of 100 volts to a few thousand volts. As seen alongside it first drops below 220 volts then comes back to stabilise. The compressors on normal fridges will burn out if the voltage is too low [below 170V]. TV s, Flat screens, Hi Fi s, Home Theatre systems, Computers, Monitors, Fax machines, Photo copiers, and more, are all likely to sustain damage if the 220V supply suddenly rises to above 270V...

What this shows us is for example there is a higher density and occurrence of lightning over sub-saharan Africa than in Europe. It is also for this reason that the products made in Europe to protect equipment are not of a strong enough protection level for us in South Africa. For example our mains units are between 6.5kA and10ka. The equivalent in Europe are only 1.5kA to 2.5kA. We are highlighting this as there is sometimes the perception that the local products are inferior or not as good as the one from Europe. This obviously is not the case when you compare the specifications. Note the increased intensity between the two regional maps for South Africa. The significant increase in the two years. The filter units and under/over units are designed to prevent damage from voltage fluctuations and surges. The mains and satellite is to keep your decoder / PVR safe from any induced or other voltage surges. Page 12

Under Over Voltage Switch Irregular voltages or spikes can be severely harmful to your equipment.

TV s, Hi Fi s, Computers, Monitors, Fax machines, Photo copiers, and more, are all likely to sustain damage if the 220V supply suddenly rises to above 250V.

If the voltage goes below 190V or it goes above 250V, the unit will switch off your appliance. The unit will remain off until the voltage returns to normal.

This product also has built in lightning and surge protection to further enhance the protection levels of your equipment.

Allow +/- 10 seconds for the unit to calibrate, the display will show a line running around the outside of the square while calibrating.

Should the voltage be too low the unit will display an L and will not switch on.

The high low voltage protector will protect equipment operating between volts AC and will safely pass a maximum current of 15Amps. If the voltage goes below 190V or it goes above 250V, the unit will switch off your appliance. The unit will remain off until the voltage returns to normal. Should the voltage have dropped for a split second the unit will switch off but will not switch on until the delay period has passed [minimum of 20 seconds]. This product also has built in lightning and surge protection to further enhance the protection levels of your equipment. On detection of a spike the unit will also switch off. Operation Plug the unit into the wall socket and switch on. Allow +/- 10 seconds for the unit to calibrate, the display will show a line running around the outside of the square while calibrating. On completion a number will be displayed for example 5 which indicates that the voltage is between 221 and 225. See the top of the Unit for the complete table. Should the voltage be too low the unit will display an L and will not switch on. The same applies if the voltage is too high and H is is played an the unit will remain off. 14 Mains Power Protection Any equipment or appliance that plugs into the mains needs this protection. The induced surge comes down the cable to your equipment and causes damage. This can be caused by lightning or surge in voltage by your power provider like Eskom.
