4 1. INTRODUCTION 1.1 GENERAL "LabEXCEL Clino" is a simple to use software to display values measured with the WYLER inclination measuring instruments CLINOTRONIC PLUS. The software is based on the LabVIEW platform by National Instruments. The heart is the WYLER software module WyBus developed for the communication between the instruments and the software LabVIEW. The measuring results can be transferred continuously to a.csv file for further treatment in EXCEL. Precondition for the software installation of LabEXCEL Clino is: Windows XP or higher Microsoft EXCEL, minimum version 2003.NET Framework 2.0 (Microsoft.NET Framework 2.0) Download via {Windows-Update} or from the enclosed CD_ROM / Directory { Microsoft.NET Framework 2.0 Installer}/dotnetfx.exe 20 MB free space on hard disk Up to 2 inclination measuring instruments CLINOTRONIC PLUS can be monitored simultaneously with LabEXCEL Clino. In addition it is possible to measure the difference between any two different inclination measuring instruments CLINOTRONIC PLUS. 1.2 LABVIEW BY NATIONAL INSTRUMENTS Testing and measurements technology by National Instruments. National Instruments is one of the world s leaders in virtual instrumentation - a revolutionary concept based on computer and computer related technology. In connection with specifically developed userfriendly hard- and software for test and measuring applications the National Instruments concept allows the user to increase the productivity and lower the respective costs. page 4 of 24

5 1.3 SOFTWARE LICENCE AGREEMENT PRODUCT LICENCE AGREEMENT WYLER AG CH-8405 WINTERTHUR / SWITZERLAND The following is our standard licence agreement. The licence issued with each product will have the product name (e.g. LabEXCEL, LabEXCEL WyBus or DYNAM) substituted for the words "the program" where they appear below. 1. WYLER AG licences you to use the program (including the installation program) provided that you comply with the following: a. You (or your duly authorised employees) will be the only person to use the program. Employees authorised by you are permitted to use the program for your purposes only. b. You only copy the program onto the hard disk of your computer. That where the software is installed on any multi-user or networked computer system, you will purchase a separate licence for each computer that will access to the program. c. That at any one time the program (or any part of it) does not exist in the memory (ROM or RAM, or any other type of memory) of more than one computer. d. That you do not alter, modify, reverse engineer, reverse assemble or reverse compile the program or the Install program. e. That you do not assign, sell or otherwise transfer the program to another person or allow another person to use it. f. That you use the program in accordance with the instructions provided 2. Subject to the existing laws, by the giving of the licence WYLER AG IS NOT: a. Giving you any title to or ownership in the program b. Accepting any responsibility for any damage caused by, or as a consequence of the operation of the program. 3. WYLER AG makes the program available in good faith and believes that it functions as described in the documentation. While we intend to continue developing the program, and would like to know of any problems that you experience with it, we are not undertaking in this licence to fix those problems. We reserve the right, in our absolute discretion, to fix any problems. 4. Should the distribution media supplied prove to be faulty then we will replace it provided it is returned within thirty days of us sending it to you. 5. This licence is and will be governed and interpreted according to the law of SWITZERLAND. IT IS A BREACH OF THE COPYRIGHT ACT TO COPY THE PROGRAM WITHOUT OUR PERMISSION. THE ACT PROVIDES FOR A FINE TO BE IMPOSED ON ANY PERSON WHO COPIES THE SOFTWARE WITHOUT PERMISSION. WE WOULD ALSO BE ENTITLED TO SEEK DAMAGES IN THOSE CIRCUMSTANCES. IF PEOPLE MAKE USE OF THE PROGRAM WITHOUT PAYING THE LICENCE FEE THEN WE WILL BE DEPRIVED OF INCOME AND THE PROGRAM MAY NOT BE DEVELOPED FURTHER. 6 1.4 SOFTWARE INSTALLATION The file "Setup.exe" is located in the "Volume" of the CD "LabEXCEL Clino". With double click to this file the software "LabEXCEL Clino" will be installed on the computer. Just follow the instruction displayed on the monitor. When the installation is finished the following icon will be seen on the desktop. After connecting the instruments to the PC the software "LabEXCEL Clino" can be started. The possible configuration is described in the following chapters. Icon LabEXCEL Clino page 6 of 24

CONFIGURATION OF THE SOFTWARE "LABEXCEL CLINO" 2.1 STARTING THE PROGRAM "LABEXCEL CLINO" After connecting the instruments to the PC the software "LabEXCEL Clino" can be started by a doubleclick to the icon on the desktop or via "Programs / WYLER LabEXCEL Clino / LabEXCEL Clino". The instruments may be connected to the PC through a RS232 port or a USB port. Please be aware that most of the WYLER instruments and sensors use the RS485 protocol and therefore need a converter adapter. If clarification is required please do not hesitate to contact WYLER or the local representative. 2.2 OVERVIEW OF THE MOST IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS LabEXCEL Clino Monitor Instruments Evaluation with Excel using numerical measuring values graphical display (must be done manually) After starting the measurement the measured values will be displayed continuously on the monitor of LabEXCEL WyBus in graphical and numerical form. Depending on the users requirements the values may be transferred to a.csv file continuously or periodically and evaluated later on in Excel. page 7 of 24

8 2.3 SEARCHING THE SERIAL PORTS After starting the program the window "System configuration" is displayed and all the available ports on the PC are listed. With the first start of the program the list of available COM-ports must be up-dated using the [List COM Ports] button. Indicators Select now the COM-Port(s) to which the measuring instrument(s) are connected. It is possible to activate all available COM-Ports. In this case the search for measuring instruments and sensors will take correspondingly more time. After clicking on the button [List Devices] the selected COM Ports will be searched for measuring instruments connected (takes approx. 10 seconds for each COM-Port). While searching the COM-Ports the blue indicator below "COM Ports Connected" is flashing. Up to 2 measuring instruments CLINOTRONIC PLUS can be connected. page 8 of 24

9 The measuring instruments connected to the activated ports will be listed as "Available Devices". Pull now the measuring instrument(s) you intend to use for the next measurement to the respective square under "Select and connect devices" using Drag & Drop. Before the instruments are connected [Connect Devices] and the measurement is started the setup and the protocol header must be configured. 10 2.4 SETUP OF MEASUREMENT TASK / MEASUREMENT PARAMETERS Change to the menu "Measure Settings". Under "Measurement Parameter" the following settings can be made: Measurement parameters (Measuring mode) SINGLE: Individual measurement CONTINUOUS: Continuous measurement; measuring time (signal interval) depending on the setting under "Integral Time INTERVAL: Measurements in intervals; measuring time (integral time) and interval (interval time) TIME TRIGGERED: Measurement from until, measuring time (integral time) and interval (interval time). The start/stop procedure may be selected through a calendar function Units (measuring units) mrad µrad Deg Arcsec mm/m Attention: The measuring units can only be changed while the measuring instruments are logically separated (disconnected). page 10 of 24

11 Select Timing Settings Integral Time in [s]: During the entered time span the measuring values will be integrated Device Sampling Time in [s]: Sampling time, if the sampling time entered is shorter than the sampling time of the device connected, intermediate values will be interpolated. Interval Time: Measuring interval. Only active in the modes "Interval" and "Time triggered" Tolerance in [%]: Indication of the number of values, which may be missing within the integral time for the calculation of the average value Start Time: Entry of the start time for a long term measurement. Only active in the mode "Time triggered" Stop Time: Entry of the end time for a long term measurement. Only active in the mode "Time triggered" 2.5 SET-UP OF PROTOCOL Change now to the tab "CSV Protocol-Head. Entering the measurement data for the protocol: Path of CSV-File: List Separator Name of Operator: Name of Measured Object: Serial Number of Measurement Device Add Comment: System Time: Autosave Parameter: Buffer Restart The directory where the protocols shall be saved can freely be selected. A valid path is required in order to save data! Separator for the.csv file. Must correspond with the regional settings in order to display the measuring values correctly when reading them into Excel Name of the user / operator Name of the measured object Serial Number(s) of the measuring instrument(s) additional information Display of the actual system time When this function is activated the.csv file will be up-dated and saved according to the pre-set intervals When this function is activated a new.csv file will be created according to the pre-set intervals It is recommended to use a new file name for every new measurement (path of CSV file). page 11 of 24

12 As a next step change to the tab "System Configuration". Activate now the connection of the required respectively activated measuring instruments and sensors by clicking to the button [Connect Devices]. Attention: As soon as this function is activated no changes to the measuring parameters can be applied any more. 2.6 STARTING A MEASUREMENT Select again the tab [System Configuration]. There you will find the following display. All the steps up to the listing and selection of the instruments to be measured have been made earlier (Chapter 2.3 Searching the serial ports ). Push now the [Connect Devices] button. Thus the instruments selected will be connected to the software. The displayed information will fade and can no longer be changed. page 12 of 24

13 Select now the program tab "Measurement". In this program window you have now the option to display additionally the difference between two measuring instruments. The calculation pattern can be selected under "Select Subtraction". In the fields "Select Visible Plots" you activate the display of the plots you would like to have shown on the monitor. Activation of Plots Differential Measurement The measurement can now be started using the [Start] button and stopped using the [Stop] button. In case you have not activated the "Autosave" function (automatic up-dating of CSV-file) the report can be started respectively up-dated manually using the [Create] button. As soon as the parameters between the measurements have been changed and a CSV-report has been created or up-dated you will be asked to enter a new file name. You can overwrite an existing file. page 13 of 24

15 2.7 TERMINATION OF THE MEASUREMENT AND CLOSING THE SOFTWARE First use the button [Stop] for terminating the running measurement. Click on the button [Create] in order to save the measuring values. Change afterwards to the tab "System Configuration" and interrupt the link to the measuring instruments using the button [Disconnect Devices] and then terminate the measuring program using the button [Quit]. When closing the program using the button in the upper right corner of the window, the program closes without saving the data. When closing the program using [Quit] the following dialog box will appear With [Save] the last measuring values will be saved in the.csv file. When "Autosave" is active this will be done automatically. page 15 of 24

16 2.8 ANALYZING THE RESULTS IN EXCEL With a double click on the.csv file the data will automatically be loaded into Microsoft EXCEL. Note: If no value has been entered into the EXCEL-sheet, this means that the corresponding sensor or instrument was in over range at that time page 16 of 24

17 3. REPEATING A MEASUREMENT / RESTART 3.1 REPEATING A MEASUREMENT After terminating a measurement and during the shut down of the system the last measurement configuration will be saved. When starting the program "LabEXCEL Clino" again the last configuration will be started. The following window appears. During the start-up of the program the blue light below "COM Ports Connected" is blinking. Provided that the same instruments are connected to the same ports, the measurement setup is started automatically. page 17 of 24

18 The measurement can be started by using the key [Start]. If since the last measurement the configuration or other instruments are connected the submenu "System Configuration" is displayed after a few seconds. Using [Connect COM Ports] and [List Devices] the new instruments/sensors may be listed. For further procedure please see chapter 2.1 Starting the program "LabEXCEL Clino" page 18 of 24

19 3.2 RESTART OF THE PROGRAM The current measuring configuration is saved automatically after each change. When the system starts up again, the last memorised measuring configuration will automatically be restarted. The measurement can be started by using the key [Start]. page 19 of 24

20 4. "ZERO-SETTING" / ABSOLUTE ZERO Absolute ZERO means that the measuring instruments and/or sensors show the measuring value "0" when the measuring face of the instrument/sensor is aligned exactly according to gravity. The absolute zero will be determined from a reversal measurement and used as the basis for absolute inclinations measurements. To assure the best possible precision make sure that the measuring object (support) and the measuring instruments connected have the same temperature and that the instruments are switched on for a few minutes. Mark the precise spot and particularly the direction of the measuring instruments and/or sensors connected in order to be able to turn them by 180 degrees and to set them precisely to the same spot in the opposite direction. Example using a BlueLEVEL: Reversal measurement for determining I. Zero point deviation of the instrument N m II. Inclination of the measured surface N p Zero point deviation of the instrument N m : Inclination of the measured surface N p : The value of the "Zero-offset" determined by a reversal measurement corresponds to the deviation of the Zero point of the measuring instrument compared to the absolute Zero (gravity). The displayed value is subsequently calculated as follows: VALUE displayed = Value of the measuring instrument minus "Zero offset" The reversal measurement described above should be repeated periodically in order to achieve a high measuring precision, particularly when the instruments have not been in use for a longer period. page 20 of 24

21 4.1 PROCEDURE TO DETERMINE THE ZERO-OFFSET: After having initialised the measurement as described in chapter 2.6 "Starting a measurement", the tab [Zero offset] will get active. Select the instruments, for which you want to set the Zero offset, from the list of instruments. You select by activating the tick behind the serial number of the sensor. Click on the button [Start], in order to start measuring the first values. The measured values will be displayed in the column "Zero Values List". As soon as the fonts on the button [Set Values (List A)] change from red to green, the values for measurement A, respectively X, can be memorised by a click on the button [Set Values (List A)]. page 21 of 24

22 Turn now the instruments by 180 and putt hem on the very same spot in opposite direction. As soon as the fonts on the button [Set Values (List B)] change from red to green, the values for measurement B, respectively X', can be memorised by a click on the button [Set Values (List B)]. As soon as both values A and B, respectively X and X' are available, the new Zero offset will be calculated. With a click on the button [Write Back] the new Zero offset value will be stored into the instruments. As soon as this is completed the measurement will be stopped and the list will be cleared. Advice: If you do not turn the instruments by 180 you can also use the Zero offset as a "relative Zero", this means that the instruments will afterwards show an inclination of 0 for the present position. page 22 of 24
