5 Installation Considerations Location VHF antenna distance from the unit Ensure vector compact has a clear view of the sky Keep safe distances away from VHF antennas Have enough cable to reach a power source or NMEA 2000 backbone Mount unit on a level plane Keep a minimum radius of 1.5 m (4.9 ) from the top Keep a minimum radius of 1.0 m (3.3 ) from the bottom 5

6 Mounting Options Flush Mount The bottom of the vector compact has two holes for flush mounting the unit to a flat surface. Recessed arrow located on the bottom of the vector compact Drill the mounting holes to a diameter of 6.5 mm (0.25 ) Do not oversize the hole for the connector to ensure proper sealing Flush Mount Installation Tips Create a mounting template for the 2 (M6 X 14 mm) SS screw holes. Mark the mounting hole centers from the template onto the mounting surface. Place the vector compact over the marks to ensure the planned hole centers are properly align. Use a center punch to mark the hole centers. Drill the mounting holes to a diameter of 6.5 mm (0.25 ). Drill out the hole for the cable connector to ensure a snug fit. Pull the cable through the center of the connector hole and attach to the vector compact, ensuring the connector clicks. Place the bottom of the vector compact over the mounting holes and insert the M6 screws through the top of the vector compact. Use two M6 washers and nuts (not supplied) to hold the M6 screws. Insert an 0-ring on each of the screw cover and place the covers over the screw holes on the top of vector compact. Warning: Overtightening of screws and cable may damage the unit. 6

7 Mounting Options Pole Mount Vector compact requires the mounting base, mounting nut and M6 screws for pole mounting. The mounting nut locks vector compact into the correct orientation. Screw cap notch Housing Screw Caps and O-ring Housing M6 Screws Mounting Base Mounting Nut Pole Mount Installation Tips Insert mating cable through both the mounting nut and 1 (25.4mm) mounting base. Place the mounting nut onto the pole followed by the mounting base. Hand tighten the mounting base to the desired orientation. Adjust the mounting nut to secure the orientation. Connect the mating end of the cable to the vector compact s connector located on the bottom of the unit. Insert the mounting base into vector compact by placing the tongue of the base into the groove of the vector compact. When the tongue is properly seated in the groove, the rest of the base can be pressed into place to create a smooth seam. Use 5 mm Allen key to fasten the two M6 screws to secure vector compact onto mounting base. Use 15 in-lb torque. Insert each O-ring onto a plastic cap Install plastic cap with O-ring onto vector compact (rectangular notch faced towards the outside). Align and set the direction of vector compact, while using the mounting nut to secure the unit (hand-tighten). Warning: Overtightening of screws and cable may damage the unit. 7

8 Mounting Orientation Parallel to the vessel Recommended orientation and resulting Heave, Pitch, and Roll values. You may need to adjust the pitch/roll output to calibrate the measurement if the vector compact is not installed in a horizontal plane Long Site When the vector compact is mounted parallel to the vessel, center the small post on the opposite side of the unit from you, within the channel made in the medallion located in the center of the unit s top as shown below.
