2 Learning Objective In this lesson you will learn: T-Scratch Bluetooth-Bluetooth Allow 2 T-Scratch modules to communicate with one another. Using T-Scratch s Bluetooth capabilities to connect and communicate over a distance. Items required: 2 x T-Scratch with Bluetooth module, 1 x Arduino Nano, 1 x breadboard, 1 x jumper wires, T-Sense accessories

3 Master Configuration The Master role allows the Bluetooth to scan the area for available modules The module will initiate pairing with available slavemodules nearby. This enables the instant connection between the two devices when they are switched on.

4 Slave Configuration The slave role allows the module to be always ready to pair with the master module. The slave will not initiate any connection and will wait for the master to initialize the pairing.

5 Configuring the Bluetooth module In order to configure the Bluetooth module into a mode, it has to be taken out of the T-Scratch module. Step 1: Unscrew the four screws on the top of T-Scratch. Step 2: Remove the cover and remove the Bluetooth module from both T-Scratch modules. Step 3: Label the module for Slave and Master respectively.

6 Configuring the Bluetooth module Using another Arduino Nano (not T-Scratch), connect the Bluetooth module using female to female jumper wire. En Pin 9 Vcc Pin 5V Gnd Pin GND Txd Pin 10 Rxd Pin 11

7 Configuring the Bluetooth module Before connecting the Arduino to the laptop, do the following steps: 1. Hold the KEY button on the Bluetooth module 2. Then connect the Arduino to the computer. 3. The red led light should blink every 2 seconds 4. If not, redo from step 1. KEY Button

8 Download files to Configure BT module Go to Download the following codes from the below link. Ensure that you have MasterConfig.ino SlaveConfig.ino

9 Configuring Bluetooth (Slave) 1. Connect the slave module as per previous setup. 2. Hold KEY button before connecting the Arduino. 3. Connect the USB to the computer [ensure blink interval] 4. Open SlaveConfig.ino and upload onto the Arduino [ensure correct board type is selected]

10 Configuring Bluetooth (Slave) 5. Open the Serial Monitor [ensure baud rate is at 9600 and in NL & CR mode] 6. Reset the module by pressing the reset button on the Arduino. RESET Button

11 Configuring Bluetooth (Slave) 7. Allow the project to run until Done! and copy down the Bluetooth s Unique MAC address BT Address Line

12 Configuring Bluetooth (Master) 8. Repeat step 1-3 for Master module. 9. Open MasterConfig.ino file 10. Scroll down to find the //BIND command line 11. Insert the slave s address [previously obtained] and replace [ :, ] (Comma) BT Address Line

13 Configuring Bluetooth (Master) 12. Upload the project and run until Done!

14 Reinstall BT module into T-scratch 13. Now that the modules are properly configured, reinstall the Bluetooth modules into T-Scratch. 14. Ensure that the pins are not misaligned with the wordings on the T-Scratch. 15. Reassemble the T-scratch. 16. Ensure that the BT Switch is turned ON when using and to PRGM when programming

15 Using T-Sense(BT BT) 1. Connect and power up the slave first 2. Note the BTSlave s LED will blink rapidly 3. Connect and power up the Master 4. Note the BTMaster s LED will blink very fast and then syncs with the BTSlave s blinking 5. Once in sync, the Bluetooth pairing is done. 6. Ensure both Bluetooth switches are in the ON mode before pairing.

16 Bluetooth Communications The Bluetooth signals are communicated at baud rate of Serial.Write( function ) is used to send the signal across the master and slave. Hence similar to that of T-sense(AppInv.), the main code will loop to sense if anything is received on the channel. If the signal matches, an action may be activated.

17 Bluetooth Communications (example In the following example, Pressing a button connected to T-scratch(Master) gives a signal of 1 When T-Scratch(Slave) receives the signal 1, the LED light is switched on

18 Code T-Sense(BT BT) =Master= Declare the following in the declaration space: 1. Define button as digital pin3 2. buttonstate and state as 0

19 Code T-Sense(BT BT) =Master= Declare the type of input in the setup() 1. button as an input 2. Serial.begin(38400) matching the Baud rate of the BT module

20 Code T-Sense(BT BT) =Master= In the loop() if the button is pressed, the Bluetooth is to send a 1 to the slave to turn the LED. else it will send 0.

21 Code T-Sense(BT BT) =Slave= Declare the following in the declaration space: 1. Define ledpin as pin An integer variable state as 0

22 Code T-Sense(BT BT) =Slave= Declare the type of input in the setup() 1. ledpin as an output 2. Serial.begin(38400) matching the Baud rate of the BT module

23 Code T-Sense(BT BT) =Slave= In the loop() if data is received on the serial port, read the data and stores it value as state.

24 Code T-Sense(BT BT) =Slave= In the loop() cont if the message 1 is received, the LED is ON and refreshes the state value as 0. else if the message is 0, LED is OFF and refreshes the state value as 0.
