Antenna cables extending beyond the building are usually very long. These and the antennas themselves are directly exposed to atmospheric discharges. For this reason, conductors with a coaxial structure are used. These have properties that are favorable with respect to EMC. Nonetheless, the danger of surge voltage coupling in antenna cables and the formation of parasitic voltages up to the sensitive interfaces of the transceiver systems is not prevented. Thanks to interface-optimized surge protection devices, the COAXTRAB product range increases the safety for transceiver equipment considerably. 9 Mobile / radio systems for local communication Surge protection adapter for mobile phone and radio link systems COAXTRAB For antenna connections in transceiver systems with BNC, N or 7/16 connectors, COAXTRAB offers optimal surge protection. Thanks to the good impedance matching, high transmission capacities are not a problem even for frequencies up to 6 GHz. A replaceable gas-filled surge arrester is provided in the CN-UB-280DC... adapter housing as coarse protection. In the event of a fault, the surge arrester can be removed by loosening a screw in the housing, and replaced with the spare gas-filled surge arrester, CN-UB-G1. The CN-UB-70DC-6 is available for extremely high frequencies of up to 6 GHz, such as in the case of WiMAX. The protective adapter can be permanently mounted in the control cabinet, for example, using the CN-UB/MP mounting plate. An M3 terminal screw is present on the housing for a connection to the equipotential bonding of CN-UB-280 and C-UB/E. This equipotential bonding/ground connection must be established along the shortest possible route using an equipotential bonding line. C-UB/E or CN-UB/E is looped into a data line, the shield of which is used in a floating manner, or connected directly to the interface of the device to be protected. 11 Mobile / radio systems for local communication Surge protection adapter for mobile phone and radio link systems COAXTRAB CN-LAMBDA/4 with N or 7/16 connectors protects antenna inputs of radio systems with narrow-band signals against surge voltages. By using λ/4 technology, a very good protection level is reached, whereby the desired signal is not impaired. Thanks to its nominal frequency and high energy absorbing properties, the arrester is ideal for protecting, for example, mobile phone systems and satellite location systems. The CN-LAMBDA/4-5.9 is ideal for frequencies between 2.4 GHz and 5.9 GHz, such as WiMAX. The CN-UB/MP mounting plate is available for installation in the control cabinet. An equipotential bonding must be created from the protective device to the housing of the device to be protected. A screw terminal block is provided on the arrester housing for the equipotential bonding cable. The order is supplied complete with T-piece. RF-TRAB-A1 can also be used in transmission lines with a floating shield. 15 Video communication Surge protection adapter for COAXTRAB video communication COAXTRAB C-UFB... is designed for use in data and video communication systems. C-UFB.../E is used in floating data and video communication systems. It provides low-capacity fine protection and coarse protection between the shield and the inner conductor, and common mode voltage coarse protection the shield and the inner conductor to ground. The ground connection is made along the shortest possible route with a separately laid line and is cut to the required length. C-UFB... consists of a low-capacitance protective circuit with coarse and fine protection elements and provides normal voltage protection for data lines with a grounded shield. Note: An M3 terminal screw is available for the equipotential bonding/grounding connection for COAXTRAB in non-floating data and video communication systems. 17 Radio and television sets Surge protection for antenna inputs of radio and television sets C-SAT-BOX is surge protection for antenna inputs in satellite receiver systems. This protection is used directly before the antenna distributor or multi-switch and reliably protects the connected inputs against surge voltages. The protective device has five F connectors that are suitable for processing analog and digital SAT signals as well as terrestrial antenna signals. Thanks to the universal protective circuit, signals can be connected to any F connector. The plastic brackets on the sides allow direct wall mounting. The F-adapters ADAPTER KOAX TYPE F are available for connecting the C-SAT-BOX to the Multiswitch. An adapter is needed for each channel connection. With the connection cable KBL-SAT/20, the C-SAT-BOX can be connected to a multiswitch with a different pitch without problem. A cable is needed for each channel connection. C-TV-SAT and C-TV/HIFI are attachment plugs with surge protection for antenna inputs of radio and television sets. They are used on the cable or antenna connection of terrestrial roof antennae or satellite receiver stations. The protection components are fitted with TV connectors and with F connectors for satellite systems. They are simply looped into the antenna cables at the antenna socket and reliably protect the connected inputs against surge voltages. 19 Radio and television sets Surge protection for the power supply unit and the antenna inputs With the MAINTRAB MNT-TV-SAT combi adapters, both the antenna and the current supply side of the termination device are protected from surge voltages. They are simply plugged into the socket and a separate cable establishes the connection to the antenna outlet box. COMBITRAB CBT-TV are combination socket strips that protect signal interfaces, and also have five protective contact sockets for mains-side protection against surge voltages. Both devices are provided with device protection comprising a protective circuit of thermally monitored varistors and a gasfilled surge arrester for the power supply. The green LED is the operating indicator for the power supply. If this indicator goes out, the surge protection device must be replaced as it indicates that the device no longer provides protection against surge voltages. The operating voltage still remains available. Optimum protection is achieved only when both the data line and the 230 V mains cable of the telecommunications termination device are connected to the protective device.
