1 Welcome, Remote workers! Below you will find a list of all items included in the remote worker bundle; as well as step by step instructions for connecting your equipment. Please be sure to follow the directions carefully, and in order, to reduce the possibility of connection problems. As discussed early on in your hiring journey, there are certain requirements set by the Hartford to ensure optimal connectivity. 1. High speed Cable or DSL provider is required Wireless, Hotspots & Satellite are NOT RECOMMENDED OR SUPPORTED). 2. Your home modem needs to be in the same room as your Hartford issued juniper router. 3. Your home internet must have a minimum upload/download speeds of 3Mbps/5Mbps. (You can confirm your home Internet speed by going to from your personal home computer.) If your current set up does NOT meet the above requirements please reach out to your Manager. To get started, we ask that you take a moment to identify the equipment you have been provided. If you find are missing any of items above, please contact your manager or the CTO Service Desk at WeHelp ( ). In this box you should have: 1 Juniper Router provided by RWP Team 1 Genesys or Avaya Phone provided by RWP Team 1 Genesys or Avaya Power cord provided by RWP Team 3 Network Cables provided by RWP Team Sent separately you should also have received: 1 desktop, laptop or tablet computer (with power adapter and docking station if laptop or tablet) provided by Desktop Support Monitor(s) with 1DVI & 1 VGA monitor cable (if Dual Monitor user). Alternatively this could be 1HDCP (HP DisplayPort cable) & 1VGA monitor cable (if Dual Monitor user). -provided by Desktop Support Now that you have confirmed you have all necessary equipment, let s begin the set up. 1
2 Connecting Power Cords to your APC Surge Arrest Surge Arrests should be plugged directly into a wall outlet Green light = Protection working Yellow light = overload (contact the service desk) Red light = building wiring faulty (contact the service desk) Make sure nothing is plugged into the Coax DSL or Network ports. These are not used. Juniper Router Setup It is recommended you take a moment to familiarize yourself with the diagrams on the next pages. These diagrams will be essential in understanding how all the pieces fit together. Follow these easy steps listed on the pages below, along with the diagrams to hook up all of your equipment. This picture shows where each component should be plugged in to your Juniper Router. Port 0/0 Network cable from your internet provided equipment (Modem) Port 0/1 Network cable to your or Genesys or Avaya telephone Port 0/2 NOTHING SHOULD BE CONNECTED Port 0/3 Network cable to TCR desktop or laptop Port 0/4 Port 0/5 or 0/6 If you have a personal router, or home computer please use a network cable to plug into any of these three ports. 2
3 Setting up your Genesys Phone (if your phone does not look like this, skip to the next step) Please note: You will need to wait 15 min after you plug in all of the equipment to plug in the power cord for the phone. 1. Plug one end of the coiled handset cord into the telephone and the other end into the handset. 2. Plug the headset in to the headset port on the telephone. 3. Plug one end of the network cable into port 0/1 on the Juniper router. Plug the other end into the LAN port on the telephone. 4. Plug in the power supply labeled Polycom to the back of your Echopass IP Phone (shown below) making sure the other end of the power cord is plugged into one of the A/C outlets on the APC Surge Arrest. 5. Attach the Phone s base. Testing the Genesys Phone Test 1 Place a test call once the phone has successfully booted up by following the instructions below: Dial from your Genesys Phone. You will hear the welcome message You have reached the remote worker MOS score testing line. Please leave your phone off hook for the next 2 hours. Thank You No music will be played after announcement they will just hear silence followed by "Please hold" then "Please continue to hold during the silence". Just leave the handset off the hook overnight. This is to test the quality of your phone throughout the 12 hour period. Test 2 (After test 1 is completed and is successful) 3
4 Dial 9 and any outbound number to a cell phone or any outside number. Test for a minute and then hang up. If difficulties are encountered completing this test, you must contact your supervisor Setting up your Avaya IP Phone 1. Plug one end of the coiled handset cord into the telephone and the other end into the handset. 2. Plug one end of the network cable into port 0/1 on the Juniper router. Plug the other end into the LAN/PBX port on the black power brick labeled Avaya. 3. Plug the gray cord that comes in the box with the telephone into the phone port on the power supply. Plug the other end into the back of the telephone where indicated in the picture. 4. Plug the power supply cord into the back of the Avaya power brick and then into an A/C outlet on the APC Surge Arrest. 4
5 Setting up your Desktop/Tower computer (if you have a laptop, skip to the next section) 1. Plug in USB connected Mouse and Keyboard into any available USB port into the back of the Desktop 2. Connect your monitor(s). You should have been provided a DVI Dongle with your Tower. 3. Or the appropriate cables provided. 4. Connect one end of the dongle to the DVI port on the back of your Tower. 5. Connect your monitor cable with the properly matching connecting end to the other end of the dongle. 6. Connect the monitor cable(s) with the blue end (on both ends) to the connection labeled monitor connection shown below. You will also need to connect all power cables to the back of the monitor(s) as well as to the back of the Tower and plug each into the APC Surge Arrest provided. 7. Connect a network cable from the back of the Tower to your Juniper router port 0/3. Setting Up Your 840 Laptop and Docking Station You will need to connect the power cord and all of your accessories to the Laptop docking station. 1. Plug in USB Mouse and/or Keyboard into any available USB port (as shown below) on the back of the laptop docking station. 5
6 2. Connect your monitor(s) to the laptop docking station. If you have Dual Monitors you will need both a DVI monitor cable and a VGA monitor cable 3. Securely connect the monitor cable with the blue end (on both ends - VGA) to the matching connection on the monitor. Securely connect the other monitor cable with the white or black end (on both ends - DVI) to the matching connection on the other monitor. 4. Connect the power cable(s) to the back of the monitor(s) 5. Plug in in the power cord to the back of the docking station 6. Connect a network cable from the back of the Docking station to your Juniper router port 0/3. 7. Plug power cords into the APC Surge Arrest device provided. Now that all equipment is plugged in, you may power on your computer and log in. Having Connectivity Issues? Unable to connect to the network on your Hartford computer? Power off the following: 1. Power down Laptop/Desktop, or TCR (Thin Client Replacement) device. 1. Power off Cable/DSL Modem. Use On/Off button or you can disconnect the power cord to power off the device. If you do have lights please pull the battery from the modem. 2. Pull the power cord out of the back of the Juniper router. Note: There is no ON/Off button for the Juniper router. 3. Pull the power cord out of the APC Surge Arrest Genesys or Avaya phone. Power up procedures: 1. Plug the power cord back into the cable/dsl modem. 2. Wait approximately one minute for lights to come back on and the equipment to boot up. a. If you have cable, make sure the Online/Ready/Internet is solid before proceeding b. If you have DSL, make sure that the DSL light is solid before proceeding 6
7 3. Plug the power cord back into the Juniper router Note: The Juniper router takes Approx. 8 to 10 minutes to fully make all connections. You will know that your Juniper Router has connectivity once your phone has dial tone. 4. Power up your laptop/desktop or TCR (Thin Clint Replacement device) and Log in. 5. Plug in your Genesys or Avaya phone power cord back into the APC Surge Arrest. If you continue to have connectivity issues, please contact the CTO Service Desk at WeHelp ( ) and identify yourself as a new hire who is setting up your equipment for the first time. Identifying yourself as a new hire is important so the Service Desk Rep can route your ticket to the appropriate team. Once you ve gotten logged in and are familiar with your setup, we want to be sure you re aware that there are tools are available for easy Remote Worker setup of your equipment (in case you move or need to relocate your equipment down the road) along with troubleshooting documentation if you experience issues. 1. Every computer at the Hartford has a Remote Worker support button on the desktop. If you are unable to find the icon below try going to the start menu, clicking All Programs, then HIG Shortcuts and then Remote Worker Support. Note: You do not need your home network to access plug in the laptop or the Desktop, with monitor, keyboard and mouse only. o RWP Bundle Setup o RWP Setup (video) o Setting Dual Monitor Display and Resolution o Trouble Shooting Home Network Equipment 2. Hartford s mypath web site under RWP Equipment Setup Video. You can access the RWP Equipment Video from a home PC or Laptop. At this time you cannot access through a mobile device phone or ipad. o From your home computer type o Login to MyHR with your network id and password o To access MyPATH, select the link from the HR Links for Employees box. o Select RWP Equipment Setup Instructional Video in the search field and Launch Course link.
