1 I INSTALLATION CABLE INSTALLATION (INTERFACE SPECIFIC) RS232 The following steps describe how to properly install the cables for an RS232 StratosH application. The scanner/diva scale must then be configured to match the host s RS232 parameters. Cable installation alone does not guarantee that the StratosH will communicate properly with the host system. 1. Turn off the host system. 2. Plug the 10-pin RJ45 end of the RS232 interface cable (MLPN x-N-3) into the 10-pin socket labeled Scanner RS232 to Host, on the bottom of the StratosH. 3. Connect the other end of the RS232 cable to the proper communication port on the host device. 4. Plug the dual interface cable (MLPN x-N-3) into the 10-pin socket labeled, Scale RS232 to Host, on the bottom of the StratosH. 5. Connect the other end of the dual interface cable (MLPN x-N-3) to the appropriate communication port on the host s scale device. 6. Plug the optional remote display cable** into the 10-pin socket labeled, Scale to Display, on the bottom of the StratosH. 7. Plug the dual interface cable (MLPN x-N-3) into the 10-pin socket labeled, Scale RS232 to Host, on the bottom of the StratosH. 8. Connect the other end of the dual interface cable (MLPN x-N-3) to the appropriate communication port on the host s scale device. Plug the optional remote display cable** into the 10-pin socket labeled, Scale to Display, on the bottom of the StratosH. 9. Connect AC power to the transformer. If the AC outlet is equipped with an on/off switch, turn the power on. 10. Turn on the host system. Version 1.1 Page 1 of 8

Wait for the confirmation beep tones after each bar code scan. Recall RS232 Defaults RS232 Recall Defaults ³ Version 1.1 Page 2 of 8

3 Scan Dual Cable Interface Dual Cable Mode ³ ***NOTE: Select either EPOS or EPOS2 Protocol *** EPOS sets the scale to RS232 protocol to Serial EPOS EPOS Protocol ³ Communication Port Settings: 2400 Baud Rate; 7 Data Bits, 1 Stop bit, Even Parity OR EPOS2 sets the scale to RS232 protocol to Modified Serial EPOS. This protocol does not require the POS terminal to send the weight back to the scale for validation. EPOS2 Protocol ³ Communication Port Settings: 2400 Baud Rate; 7 Data Bits; 1 Stop Bit; Even Parity Save the Data Save Data ³ ***The scanner & scale are now configured for Dual Cable Serial Data. *** Version 1.1 Page 3 of 8

4 Testing Open MetroSet 2 MetroSet 2 can be downloaded at Metrologic Instruments web site: Select MetroSet2 configuration & Utility Software from the drop down menu. After installation has been completed Open MetroSet 2 and choose Stratos 20xx/21xx/23xx from the list and click on the Configure Stratos 20xx/21xx/23xx button to proceed to the configuration screen. Open the terminal window. Dual cable communication 1. Test the scanner Open MetroSet Terminal Window with Scanner COM port, scan a bar code, and see that the data appears in the Terminal Window. The data should appear in the following format: [STX]08<code ID><bar code data>[etx]<bcc> <code ID> is the code identifier. Example: "A" indicates UPC-A <bar code data> is the information in the bar code <BCC> is for error checking. It can be any ASCII character. 2. Test the scale Open MetroSet Terminal Window with Scale COM port; send the following command string to request the weight: W[CR] [CR] is Carriage Return (or Enter) The scale should respond in the following format: [LF]<weight>LB[CR][LF]S2pp3[CR][ETX] <weight> is the decimal weight in pounds (or kilograms, if metric) Version 1.1 Page 4 of 8

5 Creating MetrOPOS Profile: The scanner/scale programming is complete. Next, install the OPOS driver, and create scanner and scale profiles. In order to set up the OPOS device profiles for the scanner and scale, you must have downloaded and installed the MetrOPOS drivers and utility. This is available on the Metrologic corporate website at the following location: Under the Software dropdown menu select MetrOPOS Driver. Download and install the driver. It should install the MetrOPOS2 Administrator in your program group. Setup the profiles using the MetrOPOS2 Administrator for both the scanner and the scale. To do so, Start the MetrOPOS Administrator. The setup wizard may appear, if it does, just close the window. Next, select New Profile and setup the options for the scanner as shown below and Save: (Note: You can name the profile whatever you want, and be sure to select RS232 and dual Cable) Version 1.1 Page 5 of 8

6 Configure the Scale and select Create Profile After the profile has been created successfully press OK, select No. The OPOS drive should now be configured for the Scanner and Scale. Version 1.1 Page 6 of 8

7 Scanner Test: To test the Scanner select Detailed Test icon. In Detailed Test choose Scanner and your profile name. Click on Open, Claim, Enable and check Decode Data, Data Event Enabled, Always Enable Data Event. 8 Scale Test: To test the Scale select Detailed Test icon. In Detailed Test choose Scale & your profile Name. Click on Open, Claim, Read Weight. Reading Weight with nothing on the scale should read Weight Data: 0.00 lb.
