5 DNP3 Overview DNP3 Distributed Network Protocol version 3 A powerful protocol to transmit data from Point A to Point B using serial and/or TCP/IP communications. Open and public protocol Developed in the early 1990s to achieve standardsbased interoperability between Master stations and substation computer systems in the electric industry. 5
