1 IS3AP488D Class-AB Audio Amplifier Evaluation Board Guide Description The IS3AP488D demo board is a fully assembled and tested PCB that uses the IS3AP488D Class-AB a dual bridge-connected audio power amplifier. Designed to drive speaker impedance of 4Ω or larger. The demo board provides dual BTL output, capable of delivering.6w into a 4Ω speaker at 5V. Features Supply voltage range from.7v to 5.5V Delivers.6W into a 4Ω speaker at 5V supply. (THD+N=%). Delivers.6W into an 8Ω speaker at 5V supply. (THD+N=%) Available in QFN-6(4mm 4mm) package QUICK START Recommended Equipment 5.V, A power supply Audio source (i.e. MP3 player, Notebook PC) 8Ω or 4Ω speaker Absolute Maximum Ratings 5.5V power supply Caution: Do not exceed the conditions listed above. Doing so may risk causing damage to the board. Procedure Please use the evaluation board by following the procedures listed below to verify operation of IS3AP488D. Caution: Do not turn on the power supply until all connections are completed. Connect 4Ω (or larger) speakers across the (OUTA+, OUTA-) terminal and (OUTB+, OUTB-) terminal. Or connect speakers to the connector (OUTA, OUTB). Connect the ground terminal of the power supply to the and the positive terminal to the VCC. Or connect DC power to connector (DC CON). Connect the audio sources to the INA terminal (left channel) and INB terminal (right channel); or connect audio sources to the connector (AUDIO IN). Turn on the power supply. Turn on the audio sources. 2 IS3AP488D Class-AB Audio Amplifier Evaluation Board Guide Evaluation Board Operation The IS3AP488D demo board features the IS3AP488D Class-AB power amplifier IC, designed to drive speaker impedance of 4Ω or larger. Gain Selection The IS3AP488D demo board ships with a preset gain of 8.3dB. The gain of the board is determined by the values of resistors R I (R, R ) and R F (R 3, R 4 ). Change resistors R I and R F to obtain desirable gain value. Equation () allows calculation of specific resistances needed for the desired gain setting. Refer to IS3AP488D data sheet for more details. R V G ain F () R I V High-Pass Filter The input capacitors C I (C 5, C 6 ) and input resistors R I (R, R ) form a high-pass filter with the corner frequency,, determined in Equation (). f c Shutdown Mode () R I C I Jumper (J) controls the shutdown pin of the IS3AP488D IC.
