3 1 SPECIFICATIONS 1.1 Generality The PulseMaker is an efficient and complete CNC controller. Its possibilities are superiors to lots of other controllers from the market. Indeed, it s include a large buffer (more than 200 commands), handle move without ramp, with ramp and with variable ramp in acceleration and deceleration. This provides kinematics performance rarely observed. The PulseMaker offers speed and really smooth moves. The PulseMaker handle 4 axes simultaneously and produce signals for 4 axis vectors interpolation until 20kHz. It can managed 12 inputs and 14 outputs, with a PWM output and the Pulse/Dir signals for the stepper control. The PulseMaker provide a relay for low tension devices activation, specially the activation of an external power relay of the mill s motor. The PWM output allows the RPM control of the mill s motor. Furthermore, an optional analogical stage provides a 0-10V output. The PulseMaker could be provided in two versions. The first one with screw block connectors and the second one with HE10 connectors. 1.2 Usage with a stepper motor power stage The PulseMaker was designed to control any stepper motor power stage managed by Pulse/Dir (Clock/Dir or Step/Dir) signals. In fact it could managed all the power stage which take a logical signal (Dir) to manage the rotating sense and an other signal providing one pulse for one step. In this case, thepulsemaker provide 4 Pulse signal, one by axis and 4 Dir signals. This kind of power stage is very common. The pulses are generated with a maximum frequency better than 20kHz (above 22 khz), even during a multi-axis interpolation. This allow steps per second. For a 200 steps/turn motor, used in quarter step (800 steps/turn) it corresponds to 25 turns per second. With a 5mm screw we can reach 125 mm/s

4 1.3 Connectors There is 10 connectors on the PulseMaker : An USB connector (1.1 compliant USB 2.0) for the host PC connection. A 4 points, type K-K connector providing the USB signals for integration of the PulseMaker inside industrials machines. A 4 points, type K-K connector providing the signals of the AxMoBus extension port. A 2 points, type K-K connector providing the optional 0-10V analogical output. A HE10 16 points male connector or a 9 points screw block, providing the ground and 8 TTL (0-5V) filtered inputs. A HE10 10 points male connector or a 5 points screw block, providing the ground and 4 TTL (0-5V) inputs. A HE10 10 points male connector or a 9 points screw block, providing the 5v, the ground and 6 TTL (0-5V) outputs. A HE10 10 points male connector or a 10 points screw block, providing the 5V, the ground and the 8 signals Pulse/Dir. A 10 points connector reserved for production test. 6 1.5 Electrical precautions The power supply of the PulseMaker is the USB port of the host PC. This port could only provide a reliable current of 90 ma This involves two consequences: All the input/output signals must respect logical level (0-5V) to avoid serious damages to the PulseMaker and the PC. The total current provided by the PulseMaker must be less than 50mA. Consequently you have to verify the impedance of all devices connected on the PulseMaker. These requirements are compliant with all the stepper motor power stage that we have tested. If you do not respect these requirements we couldn t be responsible of any damages of the PulseMaker or the PC connected with it. 1.6 Recommended configuration To use the PulseMaker, you should dispose of a computer PC-Intel type or PC- AMD type with Windows XP or Windows This computer should have more than 256 Mo of RAM and more than 200Mo of hard disk free space. Furthermore, this computer must run Galaad or Kay from NIL ( If you do not have almost one of these applications, please contact NIL or a reseller of Galaad. Installation with Windows 2000 is similar. 2.1 Driver download You should download the driver on our web site at : AxMo zip Uncompress this file in a folder, for example in : c:\axmo First connection of the PulseMaker

7 Select No, not this time, and click Next. Select Install from a list or specific location, and click Next.

8 Select Include this location in search, and click Browse. In the folder wher you uncompressed the zip file, select AxMo , then press OK. You will obtain :

9 Click Next : Click Continue Annyway. Then wait for the end of the installation. You will obtain :

10 Click Finish Congratulations your PulseMaker is ready to use. 2.3 Vérification Right-Click the My Computer icon, then select Property, a dialog box will open, select Hardware. You will obtain :

11 Click Device Manager, you will obtain:

12 Click the + of the Universal Serial Bus Controllers, you will obtain : In the USB device list, you should read : «USB AxeMotion PulseMaker». 3 GALAAD SETTINGS FOR THE PULSEMAKER In this chapter we will see the elementary settings of the AxeMotion cnc cards for Galaad. For a deeper understanding of the settings of Galaad, please refer to the Galaad s user handbook. 3.1 Basic settings

14 Choose your machine model; here it s a generic one AxeMotion PulseMaker Define the Usable range, ballscrew pitch and motor steps. Then select Controller. Click More. 3.2 Advanced settings

15 In this dialog box, you should define the inputs that you use for the zero-end switch and the kind of switch (Normal Open (NO) or Normal Close (NC)). For more information on the Galaad settings, please refer to the Galaad s user handbook.
