2 The CAC-400 and CAC-400-A are Vytran s most advanced fully automated large-diameter fiber cleavers to date, designed from the ground up for embedding into an integrated manufacturing environment. CAC-400 systems incorporate the proven tension-andscribe cleaving technology of our industryleading LDC-400 cleavers along with a host of enhanced features to support automated volume production of next-generation fiber lasers, medical devices, sensing components and other fiber assemblies. CAC-400 systems combine precision cleaving, consistent quality, simple operation, remote control and a compact design. They can be used as stand-alone tools or seamlessly paired with our CAS-4000 Series splicers. The CAC-400 produces flat cleaves with mirrorquality end-face finishes and precise cleave positioning on conventional and specialty fibers from 60 to 600 microns in diameter. The CAC-400-A is a specialized model for creating both flat and angled cleaves. Seamless Pairing and Control CAC-400 systems share common transfer clips, cleave/splice files, and a control interface with our CAS-4000 Series splicers, creating a complete high-performance cleaving/splicing pair for manufacturing. For volume applications where dissimilar fibers are cleaved and spliced, such as creating end caps, two CAC- 400 systems may be coupled to a single CAS Series splicer, permitting different cleave parameters on each respective fiber end. CAC- 400 cleavers also feature a large built-in applications library, which can be further expanded with user-programmable recipes. E-Splice TM Technology CAC-400 systems have been equipped with Vytran s E-Splice feature. E-Splice gives production engineers around-the-clock remote access to the system, allowing operation, performance monitoring, service, upgrades, and data export for statistical process control. E-Splice maximizes throughput and yields, and reduces downtime and operator error. Precision Cleave TM CAC-400 systems also feature Vytran s new Precision Cleave technology. Precision Cleave utilizes a piezoelectric crystal oscillator to enable high-precision cleave positioning, superior cleave consistency and low cleave angle, and mirror-like facet quality. Angle Cleave The CAC-400-A incorporates a rotary drive mechanism that can introduce a torsional component to the pre-scribe tension. 4 Simple Programming and Operation CAC-400 cleavers offer users new, simple ways to program and operate the system. When a CAC-400 unit is integrated with a CAS-4000 Series splicer, the splicer GUI is used to generate and select the cleave files. The splicer either loads an existing file stored on the CAC-400 or uploads a new file. When a CAC-400 cleaver is configured as a standalone unit, the user can program and operate it from any linked device equipped with a browser. CAC-400/400-A Direct access through the CAS-4000 Series splicer CAC-400 System Options Clips and Inserts A series of individual fiber holding block inserts and fiber clips, or a full set, can be purchased for fiber sizes from 60 to 600 microns. PCF and Large-Diameter Cleave Backstop and Camera This option is required to cleave photonic crystal fibers and very large diameter fibers. It enables a smoother cleave surface. Shard Removal Kit External vacuum pump and filter collects waste cleave shards for small diameter fibers (125 micron diameter and below). Control using any browserequipped device connected to the CAC-400 or on the network Laptop PC In a stand-alone configuration, a computer or tablet is required to program and load parameter files onto the CAC-400 unit. A computer is also required to display the camera image if the backstop and camera option is purchased. Laptop comes preloaded with the necessary software and drivers. Integrated Manufacturing E-Splice Technology With the introduction of CAC-400 cleavers and CAS-4000 Series splicers, Vytran is first to market with fiber processing systems specifically designed to support integrated manufacturing. Up to two CAC-400 units can be paired with a single CAS-4000 Series splicer to form an intelligent manufacturing cell. In this configuration, the splicer automatically selects or uploads the cleave parameter file associated with a particular splice file. by selecting or uploading splice and cleave files. All data generated by the cleavers and splicer can be exported to the CIMS. Multiple cleaver/splicer manufacturing cells can be controlled independently or as a group, creating an efficient, integrated manufacturing setup for high-volume production. The splicer is connected to a manufacturer s Computer Integrated Manufacturing System (CIMS).
