5 3 1. SAFETY AND BASIC OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS Unpack the shaker and inspect carefully for any apparent damage which may have occurred in transit. Report immediately any damage to the carrier and to New Brunswick Scientific Co. Inc., or the supplier from whom the shaker was purchased. Place the shaker on a firm surface or the floor. Check that the electrical supply in you laboratory, is the same as shown on the voltage selector in the universal power module at the back of the shaker, and on the caution label over the power switch and power cord connection. Check that the plug on the power cord is compatible with the laboratory socket. If either supply or plug are not correct call a qualified electrical engineer to fit the correct plug or select the correct voltage. Instructions for selecting the voltage on the universal power module are shown in the operating manual. Grounding circuit continuity is vital for safe operation of this equipment, never operate with grounding disconnected. If in any doubt, contact a qualified electrical engineer. Place the platform on the shaker make sure that the four slots are seated over the four locking knobs. Tighten the knobs securing the platform. Make sure there is sufficient space round the platform to clear walls and obstructions during operation. Load the platform evenly. To start the shaker turn the on/off switch on the back of the shaker to on. If the shaker is running, the LED display will track the speed as it accelerates to the last entered set point. The shaker may be stopped or started by pressing the start/stop key. To set the shaker to run continuously at a selected speed, press the select key until the rpm indicator is illuminated. If the LED displays "off" press the start/stop key. Press either or to enter set mode (set indicator will illuminate). Set the speed by using the or keys until the desired set point is displayed. Note the setpoint can be changed during a run without stopping the shaker. The alarm may sound until the speed returns to within 5 rpm of the set point. The shaker may be programmed to automatically stop after a preset period of 0.1hr to 99.9 hrs. To Set the Timer, press the select key to hrs indicator is illuminated. Press either or to enter the set mode and set the time required. While "set" indicator is illuminated, press the start/stop key to program the time and start the run. The time indicator will light and remain on for the duration of the run. At the end of the timed run the display will read "off", the time indicator will flash and the audible alarm sound. To disable the alarm press the select key and change to any other function. To stop a timed run or deactivate the alarm, refer to the operating manual. In the event of a spillage or broken container switch off and disconnect from the electrical supply. Use protective gloves when cleaning up the spillage, being very careful with any broken glass. Consult your supervisor or site safety officer if there is (or you suspect there may be) a biological or chemical hazard from the spillage.

6 4 Clean the shaker with a damp cloth and a little household or laboratory cleaner. Do not use flammable, abrasive nor toxic cleaners or flood with water. There are no operator adjustable parts within the equipment so do not remove panels. Read the operating manual supplied with the equipment and, if you are unsure of the way the equipment is performing, and for maintenance or service, contact your supervisor, safety officer or qualified electrical engineer. 2. REPLACEMENT PARTS AND ACCESSORY INFORMATION When ordering replacement parts, accessory parts or requesting service information, please provide the Model Number and Serial Number of your unit. This information is on the ELECTRICAL SPECIFICATION PLATE.
