Outdoor Cabinet for OFF-GRID Systems Power Sources and System Design When designing an island system, local climatic conditions must be taken into account.

The system can only use solar energy or combine solar energy with wind. Everything depends on local conditions.

It is generally recommended to dimension the system for at least 2 days of battery operation without recharging.

Even on a cloudy or rainy day, at least about 10% of the rated power is produced. The number of panels installed and their overall power must match the power of the powered devices.

In order for the turbine to be deployed, there must be sufficient days at the installation site with a constant wind speed of 5 m/s.

This prevents the critical turbine speed exceeding and the voltage at the charger input exceeding the permitted 30 VDC. The overvoltage protection is also part of the brake.

A critical period for the battery is during the winter period, when the charging time of the battery at full power is shortened to a maximum of 6h between 10h in the morning and 16h in the afternoon

Components of the cabinet are the shelves for the placement of the battery and an overpressure fuse to allow pressure equalization when the battery produces hydrogen during charging.

Particularly important is the frequenc y of sunny days, the average wind strength and its stability, the presence of fog or inverse weather, etc. The system can only use solar energy or combine solar energy with wind. Everything depends on local conditions. In the event of unfavorable weather forecasts, the PLC can switch the system into a standby mode. A typical example is the PoE camera startup only in case of an alarm. It is generally recommended to dimension the system for at least 2 days of battery operation without recharging. Photovoltaic Panels The energy generated by photovoltaic panels has the fundamental advantage of being regularly available. Even on a cloudy or rainy day, at least about 10% of the rated power is produced. The number of panels installed and their overall power must match the power of the powered devices. Wind Turbine The wind turbine is a suitable complement to the system, especially in seaside and mountain areas. In order for the turbine to be deployed, there must be sufficient days at the installation site with a constant wind speed of 5 m/s. The opposite occurs in strong wind where the propeller must be braked by the BM- TPB-35 automatic brake. This prevents the critical turbine speed exceeding and the voltage at the charger input exceeding the permitted 30 VDC. The overvoltage protection is also part of the brake. Lightning Conductor and Earthing Direct lightning strike into the unprotected mast may mean the destruction of electronic devices on the mast and in its immediate vicinity. The best protection is the installation of the auxiliary collector and its grounding. The auxiliary collector prevents direct lightning strikes in sensitive electronic devices. Detailed calculations regarding the construction of the auxiliary collector are contained in EN Generally, the turbine and all other electronic devices are hidden in the protective angle of the collector. Optional Accessories Installation on a Wall When mounting to a wall it is recommended to use the KIT-OH with 4 pieces of steel brackets (galvanized) and mounting accessories. KIT-OH Installation on a Pole When you install on a pole mm it is recommended to use kit HOLDER-OH6425. HOLDER-OH LAN Overvoltage Protection In the case the UTP/FTP cable is connected to the PLC LAN port, it is recommended to install the OVP- 100M-HIPOE overvoltage protection inside the cabinet. For mounting use kit KIT-OH. See page 9. b) mounting to the holder HOLDER-OH6425 (when mounting to a pole). Fasten the cabinet using the fastening bands that are included with the holder. Holders are designed for use on round poles with a diameter of: mm. The cabinet must always be installed in the vertical position with the outlets oriented to the bottom. When installing use fasteners in accordance with the instructions and illustrations on this and the following pages. 2. Grounded Cabinet and Overvoltage Protections The cabinet is grounded with copper wires of 6-10 mm 2. Screw the wires into the green terminals (right on the bottom DIN35 rail). Ground resistance must be maximum 10Ω. 4. Connect PLC and Other Hardware The PLC, charger and other components are connected inside the switchgear. Cables and wires leading outside the switchboard are installed by the customer at the installation site as shown below Power Sources Flip the fuse holder to disconnect the fuses on the bottom rail.
