IM K Page 1 INSTALLATION & MAINTENANCE MANUAL FOR LMR ELECTRIC FIRE PUMP CONTROLLERS In order to familiarize yourself with the LMR Electric Controllers, please read the instruction manual thoroughly and carefully. The parts of this manual that refer to the Run Period Timer (RPT) do not apply to the FDF - Foam Pump Controller. FDM - Medium Voltage controller information is available in section 16.0 of this manual. Additional medium voltage information can be found in Instruction Bulletin: I.B Installation and Mounting of LMR Controller Carefully unpack the controller and inspect thoroughly. Open the swing panel inside the enclosure and remove the protective plastic covering on the LCD display. The controller should be located as close as is practical to the motor it controls and shall be within sight of the electric motor, preferably ten feet or less. The LMR controller is designed for either wall or floor mounting. Note that the controller is not free standing and must be mounted with feet or bolted securely to a wall. For dimensional and weight data please refer to the respective data sheets for the various types of Fire Pump Controllers. 2. System Pressure Connection (*Available on Foam Pump Controllers if User Selected.) The LMR is equipped with a Pressure Transducer. The controller is provided with a ¼ NPT female system pressure connection located on the bottom, external side of the enclosure. The connection should be installed as per NFPA, pamphlet No. 20. NOTE: Water lines to the pressure switch must be free from dirt and contamination. The actual pressure is displayed on the bottom left hand corner of the LCD Display. Precise start and stop pressure set points can be programmed into the controller. Refer to Section 6 for programming instructions. A print-out of pressure readings is provided during alarm situations or pressure deviations. The pressure transducer and plumbing system is rated for a maximum of 600 PSI. 3. Electrical Connections NOTE: Do not drill or install incoming cables above the controller card. *OTHERWISE WARRANTY IS VOID* All electrical connections should meet national and local electrical codes and standards. The controller should be located or so protected that they will not be damaged by water escaping from pumps or pump connections. Current carrying parts of controllers shall be a minimum of 12 inches (305 mm) above the floor level. Prior to starting verify all data on the nameplate such as, catalog number, AC line voltage, grounding and system pressure (Fire Pump Only). Inspect all electrical connections, components and wiring for any visible damage and correct as necessary. Ensure that all electrical connections are tightened before energization. Refer to the appropriate field connection drawing included in this manual (page 17), and/or affixed to the enclosure door, for all wiring information pertaining to the incoming AC power supply and motor wiring. Install necessary conduit using proper methods and tools. Incoming AC line voltage is clearly marked L1, L2, L3 and ground, located at the top of the main disconnect switch/enclosure. 3.1 Wire Sizes For control wiring, use #14 AWG wire for all electrical connections. For power wiring sizes refer to TABLE 1, on page 18.

Page 2 IM K 3.2 Electrical Checkout Instructions - For reference purposes, refer to the STATUS report within the controller. WARNING: The following procedures should be carried out by a qualified electrician familiar with the electrical safety procedures associated with this product and its associated equipment To ensure the pump does not start upon energizing the controller, make sure that the pressure at the transducer (main controller sensing line) is 5 PSI or greater. The LMR s START PRESSURE is factory set at 0 PSI. Once the controller is energized the system pressure can be viewed on the LCD display. Refer to Section 4.3. Placing a jumper between terminals 37 & 49 will lock the controller out ensuring that the pump will not start unexpected. After it is determined that the pump will not start this jumper should be removed Motor Rotation Check: With the controller energized, operate the START pushbutton immediately followed by the stop button to check the direction of the pump rotation. If rotation is incorrect disconnect power and reverse connection of the load terminals of the motor contactor T1, T2, T Phase Sequence Check: The LMR controller is designed to be phase sensitive. L1, L2 & L3 should be connected to A, B & C phases respectively. Energize the controller by closing the Isolation Switch (MIS) and Circuit Breaker (CB). If the phases are connected incorrectly, the Phase Reversal LED on the alarm display will be lit. To correct this condition, either a) open the MIS and CB and reverse the phase sequence at the circuit breaker or- b) refer to Section 3.5 to correct the DP2 switch setting. Re-energize the controller Pressure Set Points: Adjust the pressure set points as detailed in Section 6; Pressure Start / Stop Points. (Also operable if user selected on Foam Pump controllers) Starting and Stopping: With the controller isolated and the START PRESSURE and STOP PRESSURE values programmed, energize the controller. If the system water pressure is lower than the START PRESSURE, the pump will start. If the controller is set up for fully automatic operation, the pump will stop when the pressure is above the stop point and the Running Period Timer (RPT) has completed its timed interval. If the controller is set up for semi-automatic operation (programmed for Manual Stop mode), the STOP pushbutton must be operated to stop the pump. Note that the system pressure must be equal to or greater than the programmed STOP PRESSURE value, otherwise the pump will stop only while the pushbutton is being pushed. (Also operable if user selected on Foam Pump controllers) If the pump does not start when the controller is energized, or after it has been stopped as described above, operate the START pushbutton and check that the pump starts. Operate the STOP pushbutton and check that the pump stops. The RPT has no effect in this case Circuit Breaker Setting: Factory set. Do not adjust Run Period Timer: The RPT must be set for a minimum of 10 minutes. Refer to Section 6 for programming of the RPT. (Not available on Foam Pump Controllers see section 15.2 of this manual) Sequential Start Timer: The SST is programmable, refer to Section 6. If not required set the SST to zero. If required, the lead pump SST should be set at 2-3 seconds and the lag SST at seconds. If there are greater than two pumps in the system, allow a 10 second delay between pumps Accelerating Timer: Used for reduced voltage controllers only. The AT has a nominal setting of 5 seconds. If it is found that more time is required to allow the pump to come up to speed, the timer may be adjusted to suit. Refer to Section 6 for programming of the AT Undervoltage / Overvoltage Setting: If the Undervoltage/Overvoltage alarms are present check the programmed values by referring to Section 6 or refer to the STATUS printout. If the values are programmed to their maximum and the alarms continue to occur, please check your main voltage supply to ensure that the power available is dependable as per NFPA, Pamphlet 20 standards System Voltage: The actual voltage can be viewed on the LCD display using the STEP pushbutton on the enclosure flange. Refer to Section 4.3.

IM K Page Phase Current(s): Amperes, on all three phases, can be viewed on the LCD display using the STEP pushbutton on the enclosure flange. Refer to Section Field Failure Alarm Simulation Ensure that there is power to the controller and that the MIS and CB are in the ON position. Placing a jumper between terminal 49 and the terminals listed below, found on TB1, will test the respective alarms/conditions. Their respective LED will turn ON and the Common Alarm Relay, 3CR, will de-energize. Pressing the RESET key on the membrane faceplate resets the alarms. Note: The starting conditions will start the pump and CAUTION must be taken to ensure safety. Alarm Terminal # Relief ValveDischarge 38 Low Suction 45 Future #1 Relay 46 (If programmed for Input=Output. Refer to Section 6) Starting Condition * Terminal # Remote Start * 35 Deluge Valve * 36 Foam Pump controllers require a N/C input. All controllers are supplied with jumpers between terminals (36, 49) and (39, 49). Jumpers must be removed for a foam pump controller in order to enable the simulation. Pump Start * 39 Interlock Condition Terminal # Interlock On ** 37 Remote Start and Local Start will interlock when the unit is programmed as a foam pump controller. * Caution: Motor contactor will energize and pump will start. ** After placing a jumper between terminals 37 & 49, test the interlock by pushing the START pushbutton located on the enclosure flange. With this jumper in place the pump will NOT start. If currently running, the pump will stop when a jumper is placed between terminals 37 & 49. For Foam Pump controllers, the interlock condition will not lock out the pump and prevent it from running, when either a Remote Start or Local Start input has been received. If the pump is running based on Remote Start or Local Start, the Interlock will not shut the pump down.

Page Line Voltage The LMR monitors the 3-phase line voltage via three control transformers, TR1, TR2 and TR3. If power is present, the POWER ON LED will illuminate on the membrane faceplate. NOTE: The secondary of TR2 and TR3 is 24VAC only. The 3-phase voltage can be viewed on the LCD display using the black STEP pushbutton on the flange of the controller or the UP/DOWN arrow keys on the membrane faceplate, refer to Section Phase Reversal DIP Switch DIP Switch DP2, located on the main motherboard, allows for correction of the incoming cable rotation. If the Phase Reversal LED is ON, yet the motor is rotating in the proper direction, DP2 can rectify the situation. The settings for DP2 ( Switches 4, 5,6) are as follows: 100 Phase ABC Rotation 000 Phase CBA Rotation IM K 3.7 Main Isolating Switch/Circuit Interrupter The main isolating switch (MIS) is intended for isolating an electric circuit from its source of power. It has no interrupting rating and must be externally operable. The circuit interrupter (CB) is used to disconnect a running pump motor, if necessary. The CB also provides short circuit protection for the controller and the pump motor and operates in conjunction with the Locked Rotor Protector (LRP). In case of a short circuit the CB will trip instantaneously. In the case of seizure of the pump or motor while starting or running, the LRP will trip the CB, via a shunt trip, within 20 seconds, as per NFPA, pamphlet No. 20 standards. When necessary, a current limiter attachment may be mounted on the bottom of the CB to increase the interrupting capacity. If one or more of the current limiter fuses blows, then the cause must be repaired immediately and new current limiters installed when repairs are complete. The isolating switch and circuit interrupter are operated and interlocked with a single, externally mounted handle. When moving the handle from OFF to ON, the sequence is such that the isolating switch is ON first, followed by the circuit interrupter. When moved from ON to OFF, the circuit interrupter is opened first followed by the isolating switch. The operator is interlocked so that the enclosure door cannot be opened with the handle in the ON position, except by qualified electrical personnel by use of a defeater screw located on the side of the operator handle. 3.6 Locked Rotor Protector Selection and adjustment of the LRP are factory set and cannot be modified in the field. The purpose of this device is to trip the Circuit Interrupter (CB) if motor locked rotor current, typically 600% of full load amperes, is maintained between 8 and 20 seconds. The Locked Rotor Protector is an integral component of the main controller card. The locked rotor current is detected via the current transformers mounted in the enclosure. Refer to the schematic, Figure 3, page 17, for details. Once the controller trips after a locked rotor condition, upon resetting the main switch, the LOCKED ROTOR TRIP LED will be illuminated and the LCD display will indicate Locked Rotor Trip / Press Reset. Pressing the RESET key on the membrane faceplate will initialize the system and the controller will be ready for use. 3.8 Contactor(s) The contactor(s) [M, in full voltage controller; 1M & 2M, in part winding; M & A, in primary resistor; R, S & Y, in autotransformer; 1M, 2M & 1S, in Wye-Delta] connects the pump motor to the supply, under the control of the pressure switch, ' START pushbutton(s) or emergency handle. The contactor coil(s) are connected to the supply voltage of the controller. If a replacement coil is ever required, its voltage rating must be correctly ordered. One auxiliary contact provides a signal for supervisory purposes to indicate that the pump is running and one contact is connected to the LMR controller card for feedback purposes.

IM K Page Emergency Handle When pushed and turned counterclockwise, this handle mechanically closes the power contactor and starts the fire pump motor, provided there is electrical power available and the MIS and CB are closed. The microswitch (MSH) fitted, is actuated early in the stroke of the emergency handle. The MSH operates relay 1CR & 4CR, on the relay board, in an attempt to close the contactor electrically before the power contacts can close mechanically by means of the handle. Without pushing the handle in the full stroke, the pump should continue to run and can be stopped by the STOP pushbutton. If the pump does not continue to run, or the contactor does not latch electrically, push and turn the handle counterclockwise to latch it in place. To turn off the pump, first turn off the CB and then unlatch the handle. If a reduced voltage controller is operated by means of the handle, the controller operates as full voltage, across-the-line starter only; the reduced voltage starting function is disabled. If the emergency starting handle must be used, as the only means to start the fire pump, this shows that there is some malfunction within the controller. The controller should be checked and repaired by a qualified electrician without delay, in order to regain full fire protection Incoming Connections TB1 The LMR controller card is pre-wired to terminal block, TB1, located on the upper left-hand side of the enclosure, to which all external connections are made. There is no need to make any connections directly to the controller card. Refer to Figure 1, page 17 for the terminal block, TB1, connections. For Foam Pump controllers, refer to Field Connections, page 25. The complete schematic showing incoming breakers and contactor(s), will be shipped with each Fire Pump Controller and will vary depending upon the application. Refer to Figure 3, page 18, for a typical schematic. For Foam Pump controllers, refer to page 24. Listed below are the input connections to TB1, on the LMR, for customer use. NOTE: For all terminal block references, terminal 49 is common to all dry contact inputs. *DO NOT APPLY A VOLTAGE ON TERMINALS 35 TO 49* Pump Running The LMR monitors the auxiliary contact of the main RUN contactor, connected between terminals Upon detecting a contact closure, its respective LED will illuminate Local & Remote Start The Local Start pushbutton, terminal 34, is factory connected to terminal 49 and located on the enclosure flange. The Remote Start connection, terminals 35 &49, is wired to TB1. Both are N.O. inputs (dry contacts) and will start the motor upon a contact closure. Their respective LEDs, on the membrane faceplate, will illuminate to indicate the starting cause Deluge Operation (For Foam Pump controllers refer to section 15.7 Deluge Valve & Pump Start Inputs) When the fire pump supplies special water control equipment it may be desirable to start the motor before the pressure switch would do so. The Deluge Valve contact is connected between terminals The motor will start upon a contact closure and its respective LED will illuminate. A built in time delay eliminates nuisance starting of the motor upon initialization of the system Interlock ON (For Foam Pump controllers refer to section Interlock On) With a contact closure between terminals 37-49, its respective LED will flash and the Fire Pump Controller will NOT start. If the pump is running, it will stop when a contact closure is detected between terminals Interlock ON can be utilized when two or more controllers are daisy-chained in a system. NOTE: Use of this interlock function is subject to approval by the authority having jurisdiction and/or the insurance underwriter for the building Relief Valve Discharge The signal is provided by others and connected between terminals Its respective LED will illuminate upon a contact closure and the common alarm relay, 3CR, will de-energize. Pump Start (For Foam Pump controllers refer to section 15.7 Deluge Valve & Pump Start) This input is used for systems that utilize a contact closure to start the pump, such as in foam applications,

Page 6 or contacts from an external pressure switch or fire alarm system. Upon detecting a contact closure between terminals 39-49, the pump will start Emergency Start (MSH) The Emergency Start contact, MSH, a micro-switch activated by the forward movement of the emergency handle, is factory connected between terminals 40-49, and is initiated by the actuation of the emergency handle. Upon detecting a contact closure, its respective LED will illuminate. Both 8CR and AT control relays will energize simultaneously thus starting all motors across-the-line Stop Pushbutton Factory connected between terminals 41-49, the STOP pushbutton will de-energize the main Run contactor when depressed. For both automatic and semi-automatic operation, if the water pressure is NOT restored, the pump will stop while the STOP pushbutton is depressed. Upon releasing the STOP pushbutton, the pump will restart. After a manual start, the STOP pushbutton must be used to stop the fire pump. If the pump is started automatically via a pressure drop, pressing the STOP pushbutton will reset the controller. A restart time delay of 2 seconds between starting and stopping the pump allows the residual voltage of the motor to decay prior to the motor starting again Low Suction Pressure (For Foam Pump controllers refer to section 15.5 Low Foam Level) An external or additional pressure switch provides the signal connected between terminals Upon a contact closure, its respective LED is illuminated and the common alarm relay, 3CR, will energize. If programmed for Low Suction Shutdown, the pump will turn off upon detection of a contact closure between terminals (refer to section 6.2). (For Foam Pump controllers refer to section 15.6 Low Foam Interlock) Future #1 (For Foam Pump controllers refer to section 15.9 Proof Pressure Switch) For Software versions, V2.7 and greater, Future #1 relay can be programmed to energize on any of the following conditions: Low Pressure, Fail-To-Start, Undervoltage, Overvoltage, Low Suction Pressure, Motor Overload, or IM K to follow the state of input terminal #46 on TB1. Refer to Section 6.2 for programming External ACK.ALARM / STEP Pushbuttons The black pushbuttons located on the flange of the controller are used to acknowledge alarms and reset the common alarm relay, 3CR, in addition to stepping through the controller readings. The ACK.ALARM pushbutton is factory wired between terminals 47-49, and the STEP pushbutton between Relay Board The Relay Board is equipped with seven (7) relays for both factory and user connection. Figure 2, page 16, clearly shows the customer connections. Each relay consists of two (2) Form-C contacts. The relay designations are as follows: 1CR: 1CR energizes for all starts regardless of the type-of-start request. 1CR energizes the interposing relay, 8CR, which in turn energizes the contactor(s) to start the fire pump. 2CR: Upon the detection of a Phase Failure by the controller card, 2CR will energize and the Phase Failure LED, on the membrane faceplate, will illuminate. Terminals are pre-wired to TB1. Terminals , on the relay board, provide an additional Form-C contact for the user. For software versions V2.5 and greater, the Phase Failure relay is programmed for fail-safe mode and is energized when conditions are normal and will deenergize upon detection of a Phase Failure. 3CR: This common relay will energize upon the detection of the alarms listed in Section 4. Terminals are pre-wired to TB1. For software versions V2.5 and greater, the common relay is programmed for fail-safe mode and is energized when conditions are normal and will deenergize upon detection of an alarm condition. When the optional horn/bell is ordered, terminals control this device. Terminals , on the relay board, provide an additional Form-C contact for the user. 4CR: This relay is used for all reduced voltage type of controllers and is for factory use only. After a specified time the acceleration relay switches the controller from

IM K reduced voltage to full voltage. It is not used in acrossthe-line starters. 5CR: Upon the detection of a Phase Reversal by the controller card, 5CR will energize and the Phase Reversal LED, on the membrane faceplate, will illuminate. Terminals are pre-wired to TB1. Terminals , on the relay board, provide an additional Form-C contact for the user. Refer to Section 3.5 of this manual for the Phase Reversal DIP Switch settings. 6CR: The Future #1 relay is programmable by the user. Refer to Section 6 for programming. 7CR: The LRP relay is used to trip the shunt trip, housed in the Circuit Interrupter s (CB) frame, upon detection of a Locked Rotor condition. 4. Main Display Panel The main display panel, located inside the enclosure behind the glass panel, serves many operator interface functions (refer to Figure 4, page 18): Status & Alarm LEDs Pressure Reading 3-Phase Voltmeter 3-Phase Ammeter Start & Stop Pressure Settings Status & Alarm Messages Elapsed Time Meter (Hours) Number of Operations Programming Functions The software version of the controller can either be viewed upon power up, on the LCD display, or on the Status printout (refer to 6.2). The controller will initially display pressure. To step between readings, refer to Section Function Keys UP & DOWN ARROW and MENU The UP ARROW, DOWN ARROW and MENU function keys, located on the membrane faceplate, are used to the program the controller. Refer to Section 6 for programming the controller. The UP ARROW and DOWN ARROW keys are also used to scroll through the readings found on the LCD display (Section 4.3) ACK.ALARM & STEP The ACK.ALARM key, located on the membrane faceplate, is used while programming the controller, either to enter data into memory or to acknowledge the current data displayed on the screen. The ACK.ALARM key is also hard wired on the enclosure flange in the form of a black push-button, along with a STEP pushbutton. The ACK.ALARM button acknowledges all alarm conditions, thus resetting the Common Alarm Relay, 3CR. Note that the respective alarm LEDs remain lit until the Reset key is pressed. It is also used to review the previous 2048 status/alarm conditions via the LCD display Reset Button Used to reset prescribed alarms as per NFPA Pamphlet No. 20. The RESET key unlatches all alarms as well as the Common Alarm Relay, 3CR Lamp Test Button When pressed and held, the LED s will illuminate sequentially. This function can be utilized at any time during the operation of the controller Time/Print Button This button toggles between two functions. When initially pressed the LCD display will indicate: TOP: Actual Date & Time BOTTOM: BOTTOM: RIGHT Weekly Test Time Quantity of messages stored in memory. When pressed again, the controller will prompt the user to hold the button for 3 seconds, at which time an audible tone is heard, after which the stored STATUS and ALARM conditions are transmitted to the printer. If the print mode is selected for auto print, the LMR automatically downloads the conditions to the printer. The auto print mode is particularly helpful during setup and testing of the controller. NOTE: To avoid paper build up inside of the enclosure, it is recommended that the Print Mode be selected as Manual during normal operation of the controller. Refer to Section Annunciators All alarm and status indicators are of the LED type and located in the top portion of the main display panel. Refer to Appendix A, Page 20. The LED indicators are color-coded as follows: Page 7

Page 8 GREEN: RED: Status Indicators Alarm Indicators The STATUS LED s indicate motor running conditions, timer status and start demands. The ALARM LED s indicate the alarms as decreed by NFPA, Pamphlet 20, in addition to other system and external conditions. NOTE: For software versions prior to and including V2.4, the Common Alarm relay energizes. For V2.5 and greater it will de-energize (fail-safe) upon detection of an alarm. Listed below is a description of each STATUS / ALARM condition in the order they appear on the membrane faceplate Power On This LED will turn on when AC power is detected Pump Running The LMR monitors the auxiliary contact of the main RUN contactor and upon detecting a contact closure, the PUMP RUNNING LED will illuminate Run Period Timer (RPT) The RPT LED illuminates during the timing sequence, typically ten (10) minutes. Refer to Section 6 for programming the controller. (Not available on Foam Pump Controllers see section 15.2 of this manual) Sequential Start (Sequence) Timer The Sequence Timer LED flashes while timing. Refer to Section 6 for programming the controller Local Start This LED will illuminate, after the Local Start pushbutton is pressed, to indicate the system start demand Remote Start This LED will illuminate, after the Remote Start pushbutton is pressed, to indicate the system start demand Deluge Valve IM K This LED will illuminate, after detection of the Deluge Valve contact closure, to indicate the system start demand. The Common Alarm relay, 3CR, will deenergize Interlock ON This LED will flash to indicate that the controller is in a locked out mode and is prevented from starting Low Pressure (*Not available on Foam Pump Controllers) The Start Pressure, Stop Pressure and Low Pressure Alarm programmed values affect this LED. This LED can be used as a pre-warning to a pump motor start. The LED will flash as set by the LOW PRESSURE ALARM level.. The LED latches on and illuminates continuously when the system pressure is equal to or less than the START PRESSURE value. The LED turns off when the motor stops either manually or automatically Phase Reversal Due to the voltage monitoring of the system, the LMR will detect and alarm on a Phase Reversal condition. The LED will illuminate and its respective relay, 5CR will energize, and the Common Alarm relay, 3CR, will de-energize Phase Failure Due to the voltage monitoring of the system, the LMR will detect and alarm on a Phase Failure condition. The LED will illuminate and its respective relay, 2CR, and Common Alarm relay, 3CR, will de-energize Undervoltage / Overvoltage Due to the voltage monitoring of the system, the LMR will detect and alarm an Undervoltage or Overvoltage condition, as programmed by the user. Their respective LED s will illuminate and the Common Alarm relay, 3CR, will de-energize. The parameters are as follows: Undervoltage: 5 30 % Overvoltage: 5 20 % Refer to Section 6 for programming the controller Fail To Start One (1) second after receiving a start signal, should the LMR not detect a pump run contact closure, between

IM K terminals 33-49, its respective LED will illuminate and the Common Alarm relay, 3CR, will de-energize. For software versions V2.7 and greater, Fail-to-Start is determined by monitoring the current (must be greater than 20% of FLA) after an adjustable time delay (1-90 seconds) as programmed by the user. Refer to Section Low Suction Pressure (For Foam Pump controllers refer to section 15.5 Low Foam Level) A contact from an additional or external pressure switch is connected between terminals Its respective LED will illuminate and the Common Alarm relay, 3CR, will de-energize upon a contact closure. For Low Suction Shutdown, refer to Section Relief Valve Discharge The signal is provided by others and connected between terminals Its respective LED will illuminate upon a contact closure Locked Rotor Trip The controller card detects this situation and opens the Circuit Interrupter (CB) via a shunt trip. Once the controller trips after a locked rotor condition, upon resetting the main switch the LOCKED ROTOR TRIP LED will be illuminated and the LCD display will indicate Locked Rotor Trip / Press Reset. Pressing the RESET key on the membrane faceplate will initialize the system and the controller will be ready for use Emergency Start Upon actuation of the Emergency Start handle, the MSH microswitch generates an input to the controller card, terminals 40-49, and the EMERGENCY START LED illuminates. 4.3 LCD Display The LCD display located on the main panel allows the user to view; system pressure; 3-phase voltage and current; start and stop pressure settings; elapsed running time of the motor in hours; the number of start requests; 2048 status/alarm messages. All STATUS and ALARM conditions are stored in memory. In addition to being printed, the most recent 2048 conditions can be viewed on the LCD display via use of the external black pushbuttons located on the enclosure flange. The LCD display is also used when programming the LMR Controller. The STEP pushbutton, located on the enclosure flange, is used to step through the Controller Readings as seen on the LCD display. Pressing this button at any time will cause the display to change and view the next reading. The LMR is fully operational while viewing the readings. With the enclosure door open, the UP ARROW and DOWN ARROW keys perform the same function. Caution must be taken with the door open and power on. Only trained personnel should be allowed inside the controller. The displayed readings are as follows: Pressure All Voltages and Currents V : _ _ _ A : Voltage Phase A-B Voltage Phase B-C Voltage Phase C-A Current Phase A Current Phase B Current Phase C Start Pressure Point Stop Pressure Point Weekly Test Time Elapsed Time Meter Number of Operations Display Last Messages * * Press ACK.ALARM to view the messages, then press STEP to scroll through them. Press ACK.ALARM at any time to exit messages and return to the system readings. 5. Operation of the Controller Page 9 With AC power applied and the main disconnect switch in the ON position, the LMR is controlling and monitoring the system. The LMR can NOT be programmed while the pump is running. During the programming of the unit, if the keyboard is ignored for more than one (1) minute, the LMR will automatically return to the automatic mode and will start the pump upon receiving any start request.

Page Semi-Automatic or Automatic Operation (*Not available in Foam Pump Controller) Controllers with a pressure switch, but with the Running Period Timer (RPT) disabled, are capable of semiautomatic operation only. Such controllers will start automatically in response to the pressure switch but must be manually stopped with the STOP pushbutton. For sprinkler or standpipe systems where an automatically controlled pumping unit constitutes the sole supply, the controller shall be wired for manual shutdown (per NFPA 20). Manual shutdown shall also be provided where required by the authority having jurisdiction. Provisions to convert automatic controllers to semiautomatic operation, in affect disabling the RPT function, is done so by Enabling the MANUAL STOP MODE. Refer to section 6.2 for programming of this function. Controllers fitted with the RPT option are capable of fully automatic operation. Such controllers will start automatically in response to the pressure switch and stop automatically when the pressure has been satisfied and the RPT has timed out. In all situations, if the water pressure is NOT restored, the pump will stop while the STOP pushbutton is held closed. Upon releasing the STOP pushbutton, the pump will restart. Note that the RPT will reset each time the STOP pushbutton is pressed. Furthermore, if the controller is started manually, either by the local/ remote start pushbutton or emergency handle, then it MUST be stopped manually by depressing the STOP pushbutton Run Period Timer (Not available on Foam Pump Controllers see section 15.2 of this manual) The Run Period Timer (RPT) performs the automatic stopping function in a Fire Pump Controller after a start initiated by the pressure switch during automatic operation. The purpose of the RPT is to ensure that the pump motor is not subjected to frequent starts in response to the pressure. Refer to Section 6 for programming of the RPT. NOTE: The RPT timer must be reset to ten (10) minutes when the controller is placed in service. 5.3 Sequential Start Timer The Sequential Start Timer is standard in all LMR electric fire pump controllers. IM K The controller for each unit of multiple pump units operating in parallel shall incorporate a sequential timing device to prevent any one motor from starting simultaneously with any other motor. If water requirements call for more than one pumping unit to operate, the units shall start at intervals of 5 to 10 seconds. Failure of a leading motor to start shall not prevent subsequent pumping units from starting NFPA, Pamphlet 20, Chapter 7. The sequential start timer (SST) delays the starting of a fire pump in response to the pressure switch. It does not delay a pushbutton or emergency handle start. Refer to Section 6 for programming of the SST. On pressure loss, if the pressure switches operate more or less simultaneously, the starting of all but the lead pump must be delayed. This ensures that inrush currents of all the pump motors are not simultaneously imposed on the power supply. With a SST in each controller, any pump may be selected as the lead pump by appropriate setting of the timers. If the lead pump restores the pressure in less than the time delays applied to the lag pumps, then the lag pumps will not start. In addition, the provision of a sequential start timer, set to a few seconds delay, will prevent the lead pump controller from responding to momentary hydraulic transient pressure loss which would otherwise start the fire pump unnecessarily. The SST can be programmed from seconds. Typically, each pump should be delayed by 10 seconds from the pump ahead of it. If hydraulic transients are a problem, all timers can be adjusted for a few seconds extra time delay. 5.4 Phase Failure & Phase Reversal The LMR monitors all three incoming phases and can detect both Phase Failure and Phase Reversal conditions. Each has its own relay with a Form-C contact wired to TB1. The additional Form-C contact is accessible to the user and located on the relay board. 5.5 Weekly Test Timer Each controller comes standard with the ability to test the motor. Normally the pump is exercised once every 1-4 weeks for a few minutes. Note that the Weekly Test Timer is a 24-hour clock. The programmed test date can be viewed on the LCD display by pressing the TIME/PRINT key on the membrane faceplate. If the Weekly Test is not programmed, the display will show NO WKLY TEST.

IM K If programmed for a Weekly Test, the controller initiates the starting sequence by energizing 1CR on the relay board. Once the test is completed, and no other starting causes exist, the controller will automatically de-energize the main contactor, thus stopping the motor. Refer to Section 6 for programming. 6. Programming of the Main Controller NOTE: The controller can NOT be programmed when the motor is running. When programming, the LMR does not control the system. If the programming of the unit is ignored for one (1) minute, the controller will return to the automatic mode and will start the motor should it detect a start signal. Otherwise, the programming mode can be exited by selecting Return to Auto Mode on the LCD display or pushing the RESET key at any time. The LCD display will prompt the programmer with data and allow the operator to modify the program using a combination of the UP ARROW, DOWN ARROW, ACK/ALARM and MENU keys. See Figure 4 The displayed parameter value indicates the present setting of the controller. Located above the UP ARROW, DOWN ARROW and ACK./ALARM keys are designated symbols and/or words describing their function. These keys are used to increase, decrease or accept programmed values. 6.1 To Program the Controller Ensure that the pump is NOT running. Press and hold the MENU key, located on the bottom right hand corner of the membrane faceplate, for 3 to 5 seconds. Once the MENU MODE CATEGORIES message appears, press the ACK./ALARM key. You are now ready to program the controller. NOTE: While programming the LMR, pressing the RESET button at any time will return you to the normal running mode of the controller. Refer to Figure 5, page 19, for the programming menu. By following the drawing on page 19, you can move from one parameter to the next by pressing the MENU key. Note that this does not affect the value of the parameter currently displayed. To change a parameter, press the ACK/ALARM key. The value can be increased, decreased or modified by use of the UP ARROW and DOWN ARROW keys. Once set, press ACK/ALARM again to enter the displayed data into memory. For example, if the parameter displayed is CHANGE DATE, press MENU key three times to access the RUN PERIOD TIMER parameter. Press ACK/ALARM to change the RPT time and UP ARROW or DOWN ARROW to increase or decrease the value. Pressing ACK/ALARM again will enter the selected value into memory and proceeds to the next parameter. Programmable Ranges Pressure (Stop/Start): PSI (Fire Pump Only) Pressure Deviation: 0-50 PSI (Fire Pump Only) Run Period Timer: 0-15 mins (Fire Pump Only) Sequential Start Timer: sec Acceleration Timer: 0-15 sec Weekly Test Timer 1-52 weeks Overvoltage: 5-20 % Undervoltage: 5-30 % Low Suction Shutdown YES or NO 6.2 PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS Refer to the LMR PROGRAMMING MENU affixed inside the enclosure door and/or Figure 5, page Change Date Factory set, however, this parameter allows the user to set the current date Change Time Factory set, however, this parameter allows the user to set the current time Weekly Timer Page 11 For software versions up to and including V2.4, this function allows the user to set the controller to automatically start and stop the engine once per week. Select the day and time (24-hour clock) for this parameter to function. Once selected, choose the run time desired, in minutes. The pump will now start once per week as programmed. For software versions V2.5 and greater, the weekly timer is selected as the number of weeks between tests. You can view the status of the Weekly Test date by depressing the TIME/PRINT button twice. If an * appears on the display, the test will take place that week. If you wish NOT to exercise the motor, choose NONE Run Period Timer (Not available on Foam Pump Controllers see section 15.2 of this manual)

Page 12 To activate the RPT, the MANUAL STOP function must be Disabled (see below in this section). When the motor is started in response to the pressure switch, it will continue to run for the duration of the RPT, in minutes. Once timed out, if no further starting causes prevail, the motor will automatically stop. If the STOP pushbutton is depressed at any time during the timing of the RPT, the motor will stop and the RPT will reset to zero. Upon releasing the STOP pushbutton, if a starting cause is prevalent, the motor will restart. If the motor is started manually, either by the start pushbutton or emergency handle, the RPT has no affect and the motor must be stopped manually. If the MANUAL STOP function is Enabled, the RPT does not affect the operation of the controller and becomes inoperative. The timing range for the RPT is: 0-15 mins NOTE: The RPT timer must be reset to ten (10) minutes when the controller is placed in service Language The language can be selected for either English, French or Spanish. Future Enhanced versions will include additional languages Acceleration Timer This timer is used in conjunction with all Reduced Voltage Starting controllers. The programmed value determines the amount of time the start contactor remains in the circuit during initial starting of the motor. The default, and recommended, setting is 2 seconds. The timing range is: 0-15 seconds Pressure Transducer (For Foam Pump controllers refer to section 15.3 ressure Transducer) When selected as YES, the controller will start based on the signal from the pressure transducer. When selected as NO, the pump will start when the controller detects a contact closure between terminals 39-49, i.e. pressure switch start. For both starting conditions above, the Sequential Start Timer is activated when selected Fail-To-Start IM K For software versions V2.7 or greater, select the time delay, 1-90 seconds, to initiate a Fail-To-Start alarm. Typically set at 5-10 seconds Press Start Pt The value programmed determines at what pressure the controller will initiate a start command to the motor. The pressure range is: PSI (If the pressure transducer is disabled in the controller firmware, this function is disabled for either a standard LMR or Foam Pump Controller.) Press Stop Pt The value programmed determines at what pressure the system must reach before the controller will STOP the motor, either manually via the STOP pushbutton or automatically via the RPT timer. If the actual pressure does not exceed the STOP pressure value, the motor will continue to run. The pressure range is: PSI (If the pressure transducer is disabled in the controller firmware, this function is disabled for either a standard LMR or Foam Pump Controller.) Low Pressure Alarm This function serves as a pre-alarm for low pressure. At the programmed value, the LOW. PRESSURE LED on the membrane faceplate will flash until the motor starts, at which time the LED will remain on continuously. The LED will go off upon stopping the motor. If the motor does not start, the LED will flash only and turn off once it surpasses the programmed Low Pressure value. (If the pressure transducer is disabled in the controller firmware, this function is disabled for either a standard LMR or Foam Pump Controller.) Low Suction Shutdown This function monitors a contact closure between terminals If shutdown is disabled, its respective LED will illuminate, the Common Alarm Relay, 3CR, will de-energize, and the pump will continue to run. If shutdown is enabled, to prevent the controller from responding to momentary hydraulic transient pressure loss (which would otherwise shut down the fire pump unnecessarily), a time delay must be programmed to ensure a steady state. The shutdown time delay is selectable between 0-30 seconds. Upon detecting a

IM K steady state contact closure, the pump will turn off. The reset mode of the pump is user selectable. For AUTOMATIC reset, a time delay between 0-30 seconds is selected, after which the controller observes the input for a true signal, and if true, will not allow the pump to restart. If false, the controller will function as normal and respond to a start signal. If MANUAL reset is selected, the ACK ALARM pushbutton must be depressed to reset the controller. If the situation continues to exist, the controller will not restart the pump and the alarm will reappear. After a power loss, if programmed for shutdown and the input is true, the controller will not start and will follow the reset method as selected. The LCD display will indicate Low Suction Shutdown in both situations. NFPA 20, Section 2-9.9, specifically prohibits the installation of any device in the suction piping that will restrict starting or stopping of the fire pump. Cutler- Hammer assumes no liability when this function is used Program Future #1 Relay, 6CR (For Foam Pump controllers refer to section 15.6 Low Foam Interlock) This parameter allows the user to choose the method for energizing the Future #1 Relay. If I=O (Input = Output) is selected, the relay will follow the state of the dry contact connected between terminals When closed, the relay will energize and visa versa. If L.P. (Low Pressure) is selected, the relay will energize at the programmed Low Pressure value. This function and relay can also be used to indicate a Low- Low Pressure situation, if programmed lower than the start pressure value. For software versions V2.7 or greater, users can select one of the following conditions to energize the Future #1 relay: Fail-To-Start, Low Pressure, Low Suction Pressure, Interlock On, Overvoltage or Undervoltage. For software versions V2.8 or greater, Motor Overload (125% of FLA) and Pump Run can also be selected Pressure Deviation This value determines how often to print system pressure fluctuations as programmed by the user. In effect, it performs as a chart recorder. For example, if 10 PSI is programmed, each time the system pressure fluctuates by 10 PSI, up or down, the actual pressure is recorded in memory and printed, tagged with a date and time. This method avoids continual, time-based printing of unnecessary pressure values. (If the pressure transducer is disabled in the controller firmware, this function is disabled for either a standard LMR or Foam Pump Controller.) Current Pressure Allows the user to view the actual pressure during programming of the LMR. (If the pressure transducer is disabled in the controller firmware, this function is disabled for either a standard LMR or Foam Pump Controller.) Elapsed Time Meter This parameter allows the user to reset the elapsed run time value to zero. Display is in 1 hour increments. The LMR monitors and records the run time of the motor, in hours, via feedback of the main run contactor s auxiliary contact (terminals 33 and 49). The actual run time can be viewed by the LCD display as described in Section 4.3 of this manual Number of Operations This parameter allows the user to reset the number of operations count to zero. The LMR monitors and records the number of start requests, via feedback of the main run contactor s auxiliary contact (terminals 33 and 49). The actual count can be viewed by the LCD display as described in Section 4.3 of this manual Sequential Start This parameter allows you to program a start delay after a start request. To bypass the start delay, set the parameter to zero. The programmable range is: sec Manual Stop (For Foam Pump controllers refer to section 15.1 Stop Mode) Page 13 If Enabled, once started, the motor MUST be stopped manually by depressing the STOP pushbutton located on the flange, regardless of the starting cause. If Disabled, the RPT becomes operative.

Page 14 IM K Overvoltage This parameter will set the value at which the Overvoltage LED turns on and the Common Alarm Relay, 3CR, de-energizes. The programmable range is: 5-20 % Undervoltage This parameter will set the value at which the Undervoltage LED turns on and the Common Alarm Relay, 3CR, de-energizes Print Status If selected as NO, a Status report will not print when exiting the programming menu. If selected as YES, after exiting the program mode, and pressing the Time/Print button for 3 seconds, the programmed parameters and selected controller readings will be printed. This is most helpful during and after commissioning of the Fire Pump Controller. A sample status printout is shown below: SO=Shop Order CO=Customer Order The programmable range is: 5-30 % Print Routine If selected for Auto, the messages will print immediately without any user intervention. If selected for Manual, the messages will be stored in the controller s memory and will print once the TIME/PRINT key is pushed and held for 3 seconds. Refer to section 4.1. To avoid paper build up inside the enclosure, it is recommended that the print mode be selected as MANUAL during normal operation of the controller Go to Auto Mode or Press Menu If programming of the unit is completed, pressing the ACK.ALARM key will put the controller back into automatic operation. To continue with programming, press the MENU key to allow further changes to the program.

IM K Page Alarm/Status Messages The LMR Fire Pump Controller is equipped with a dot matrix thermal printer for troubleshooting and alarming purposes. It also serves as a pressure chart recorder. Each alarm/event is stamped with the date and time of the occurrence. Note that all alarms, in addition to being printed, can also be viewed via the LCD display or downloaded to a computer via an RS232 link. A cable and special software is required for downloading to a computer. If required, please contact Cutler- Hammer. Refer to section Printer / Recorder The microprocessor-controlled printer is supplied as standard with all FM Fire Pump Controllers. Mounted inside the enclosure the printer-recorder provides a hard copy status report of all alarms, events, voltage, system pressure, weekly test timer and programmed parameters of the controller. Each alarm printout is stamped with the time and date that can be used as a trouble-shooting tool to determine start-up causes and exact times of all events. On the inside of the enclosure door is a listing of all the alarms, the associated printer messages, the relay(s) affected and how to reset the system. Please refer to this for commissioning and troubleshooting purposes. A sample printout of the alarm messages is found below: NOTE: Printer shipped with controller may differ than shown above Operating Procedure The printer-recorder is shipped from the factory with two rolls of paper. Caution must be taken while inside the controller to avoid electrical shocks. The functions of operating controls are as follows: Control Function L.E.D. Switch Latch Indicates power on when green, paper out when orange. Power off in down position. Power on in up position. To secure main body of the printer to mounting enclosure.

Page 16 IM K Self Test Function To activate self-test feature, press and hold the reset button. While still holding the reset, press and hold the feed button. After holding for 1 2 seconds, release the reset and feed buttons (reset first). To stop the self-test before the end of the message, power down the printer Paper Loading Remove printer chassis from enclosure by turning the latch counter clockwise. Pull out chassis until it stops. Install the paper spindle into a new roll of thermal paper. Position the roll of paper so that it will feed from the top, then place the roll and spindle into the paper support brackets, makingcertain that the paper is level. It is recommended that square and clean cut edge is used for entry of paper into the printer mechanism scissor cut preferred. To load paper, turn on the power. Now feed the cut edge of the paper into the guide until the paper stops. Press feed button, paper will advance as long as button is held. Feed paper until lead edge lines up with paper cutter Replacement Paper Type The printer-recorder uses a thermographic printing paper on a 2-3/4 diameter roll which is 2-1/4 wide and having a plastic core with a 7/16 hole. Suitable paper is available at most office-supply stores. See list below depicting the office supply stores and their respective catalog number for the paper. NOTE: If the end of the paper rolls are taped, extra caution must be taken when the colored stripe appears indicating the paper is running out. At this point turn the printer off and replace the roll. Note that one or two messages may be lost as a result. NON-TAPED ENDED ROLLS WILSONS: TAPED ENDED ROLLS LAB CR722 STAPLES: GRAND&TOY: OFFICE DEPOT: At this time it is recommended that a self-test be performed to ensure that the paper is installed correctly, (thermal side up) and that it is feeding properly. In the event of a paper jam condition do not force the paper into the unit, or try to pry the paper out of the unit, this may damage the thermal print mechanism. Disconnect primary power and interface cable before servicing the unit. Carefully remove paper with a set of tweezers, or a small pair of needle nose pliers. If the paper cannot be cleared, remove the face plate by removing the five Philips head screws and nuts holding the face plate. This will allow access to the printer mechanism. Once paper is cleared from the mechanism, re-assemble the unit. At this time, re-load paper. NOTE: Do not remove jumpers inside of printer.

This includes alarm messages stored in memory Low Foam Interlock The Low Suction Shutdown function operated the same as in a standard controller, however, it will be referred to as Low Foam Interlock. The Sequential Start Timer (SST) will start the pump will not start at this time. After the SST has timed out, the controller will look at the Future #1 (Proof Pressure Switch) input (Terminals 46 & 49). If the Future #1 (Proof Pressure Switch) input has been received, the pump will start. If a transducer is used for this function, the controller will check to see if the pressure is below the start point.. If it is below the start point, the controller will start. If the Deluge Valve or Pump Start inputs are removed while the SST is in operation, the SST will stop timing and reset to zero. The controller will not scan the Future #1 (Proof Pressure Switch) input or pressure transducer until after the SST has finished timing. Local and Remote Start inputs will ignore the Proof Pressure Switch and SST settings and will start the controller immediately Interlock On When selected to operate for a foam application, the Interlock On function will not lock out the pump and prevent it from running when either a Remote Start or Local Start input has been received. If the pump is running based on Remote Start or Local Start, the Interlock will not shut the pump down Deluge Valve & Pressure Start Inputs The Deluge Valve (Input 36) and Pump Start (Input 39) inputs, require a normally closed contact input that opens when there is a call to start Future #1 Relay The Future #1 relay is factory set for Interlock On.
