2 TS2 Type 1 Cabinet Tech Tip Sheets The following is a compendium of items that will help to understand the setup of a TS2 Type 1 cabinet using a Siemens EPAC M50 controller. Cabinet: BIU Bus Interface Unit. This is a digital to analog, or analog to digital converting device. In this case RS485 serial communications protocol is the digital, and 24VDC ground true logic switching is the analog. A BIU is a NEMA device in that it can be used in any BIU socket in any manufacturers cabinet. The controller identifies the BIU by its address. The BIU s address is not on the BIU itself, but is hardwired into the socket of the BIU. NEMA defined addresses: 0 Terminal and Facility 1 (including Load Switches 1 thru 8) 1 Terminal and Facility 2 (including Load Switches 9 thru 16) 2 Terminal and Facility 3 (if used, provide I/O as defined by NEMA) 3 Terminal and Facility 4 (if used, provide I/O as defined by NEMA) 8 Detector BIU 1 (includes Vehicle detectors 1-16) 9 Detector BIU 2 (includes Vehicle detectors 17-32) 10 Detector BIU 3 (includes Vehicle detectors 33-48) 11 Detector BIU 4 (includes Vehicle detectors 49-64) 16 Malfunction Management Unit BIU 18 Controller MMU Malfunction Management Unit replaces the Conflict Monitor and can be used in a TS1 cabinet as a CMU. Pin HH in the large connector is logic grounded in a TS2 cabinet to select it as a MMU, whereas Pin HH is unused (therefore not grounded) in a TS1 cabinet. An indicator (LED or LCD) on the MMU indicates that it is a Type 12 when used in a TS1 cabinet. As a MMU, the unit has 16 channels with three inputs per channel (red (don t walk), yellow, green(walk)). As a CMU the unit has 12 channels with four inputs per channel (red, yellow, green, and walk).

3 Detector Rack (See TS2 Detector setup document) Detector Amplifiers must be TS2 compliant to run in a TS2 Detector Rack. TS2 Detector Amplifiers are downward compatible with TS1 cabinets. TS1 Detector Amplifiers are not compatible with a TS2 Detector Rack. Typically, rack mount Detector Amplifiers manufactured within the last 5 years are TS2 compliant. Big difference is that TS1 Detector Amplifiers require 24VDC to operate, whereas TS2 Detector Amplifiers can operate with 12VDC or 24VDC. Also, TS2 detectors have diagnostics built in that will report thru the BIU to the controller. These include Open Loop, Shorted Loop, and Inductive Change greater than 25%. Ped Detectors Pedestrian Detectors 1 thru 4 are located on the Terminal Facility. As they represent phases 1 thru 4, they must be reassigned in the EPAC to phases 2, 4, 6, and 8. 3 PHASE DATA, 8 SPECIAL DETECTOR, 9 PED1-8, assign ped detector 1 to phase 2, ped detector 2 to phase 4, ped detector 3 to phase 6, and ped detector 4 to phase 8. Zero out the others. Preempt I/O Preemption Inputs and Outputs are located on the Terminal Facility and Expander Panel. Preempts 1 thru 4 are on the TF, and Preempts 5 and 6 are located on the Expander Panel. Many jurisdictions reserve Preempts 1 and 2 for Railroad. Preempts 3 thru 6 are used for Emergency Vehicle Preemption. TS2 Power Supply In TS2, a power supply is required to supply operating voltage to thet&f BIU s, Detector Rack BIU s, and the Detector Amplifiers. - The Detector Rack utilizes 24VDC to run the BIU. - The Detector Rack utilizes 12VDC to run the Detector Amplifiers. - Pedestrian pushbuttons utilize 12VAC. Line Frequency is utilized by the BIU s to reference the 60 Hz. utility line for circuit timing synchronization. (SDLC Synchronous Data Link Communication) Port 1 SDLC This is the RS485 serial communications running at 156kbps. All SDLC cables in the cabinet are wired in parallel. Even though the cables may be labeled, any SDLC cable can be used on any SDLC port. The controller transmit (TX) line goes to all SDLC cable receive (RX) lines. The controller RX line goes to all SDLC cable TX lines. This communication will be explained in the controller section.

4 Siemens Eagle EPAC M52 Controller TS2 Fundamentals Tech Tips When receiving an M50 controller right out of the box, the first to do include: 1) From Main Menu, go to 2 UTILITIES, 6 LOAD DEFAULT and press E. This ensures that the controller is running factory default settings. This sets the controller up as a vanilla 8 phase quad, no Overlaps, no Time Base, no Preemption, etc. 2) Go to Main Menu. Look to see if the operating mode is FIO or TS2. Factory default is FIO. To change, go to 2 UTILITIES, 6 LOAD DEFAULT, C CHANGE CURRENT SOFTWARE OPTION, from this screen select 2 TS2. This selection turns on the SDLC communications in the EPAC. SDLC Communication As briefly mentioned in the cabinet section, the SDLC is Synchronous Data Link Communications transmitted via a RS485 serial port. In a TS2 cabinet this is referred to as Port 1. The data is transmitted from the EPAC as COMMAND FRAMES. The EPAC broadcasts Command Frames, some of which are global to all devices and some which are specific to a device such as the MMU, T & F BIU s, or Detector BIU s. The EPAC then waits to receive Response Frames from the device to which a Command Frame was sent. This communication is performed at 156kbps. The failure could also be a mechanical failure of a SDLC connector. Clues for diagnosing this will start by looking at the MMU and the Active Status on the EPAC. If the MMU shows no fault, but is in CVM flash, then look at the Active Status on the EPAC. This is located in the EPAC by going to the Main Menu under 1 Active Status, 1 Ring Timers, 1 Rings On the bottom of this screen it will say TS2 Diagnostic Flash. The diagnostic that indicates which device is causing the CVM TS2 Diagnostic flash is located in the EPAC Alarm Log. This is located in the EPAC by going to the Main Menu under 9 Reports, 4 Local Alarms. In this log you may see Frame Faults, which will be indicated by the number of the fault, such as Frame Fault 138. The preceding fault would indicate that the T & F BIU 1 is not operating properly. Controller and Cabinet Interface: In a TS2-Type 1 cabinet, the sequence setup and controller setup are much more restricted than we were used to in a TS1 cabinet. If we don t have the controller unit sequence set to match what the cabinet is set up for, we will expect to get a MMU Utilization Error when we try to run the cabinet. In other words, the sequence in the controller must exactly match the controller cabinet sequence. If there are no provisions for phase 1 in the cabinet, we must eliminate phase 1 from the controller sequence. For general house keeping in the controller program, and to eliminate any possibility for programming error, we typically eliminate any channel assignment that does not exist in the sequence. All of the preceding are requirements defined by NEMA. A diagnostic tool used to help set up the MMU program card is located in the EPAC menu under, 4 UNIT DATA, 5 RING STRUCTURE, then press D. This screen header reads OUTPUT CHANNEL COMPATIBILITIES and shows exactly what jumpers need to be soldered onto the MMU program card.
