3 2 Tips on using the manual This manual has been written for the device user to ensure a problem-free operation, care and maintenance. Important instructions and information concerning safety and operational reliability have been highlighted. The symbols used in the manual have the following meanings: CAUTION! INFORMATION! Working and operating processes which must be observed to the letter to exclude any risk to persons. Working and operating processes which must be observed to the letter to avoid any damage to the device. Technical information to which the de vice operator must give special attention. The illustrations and diagrams are numbered in sequence within each chapter. Some of these illustrations ha v e keys. References to illustrations within the text e. g. (5.1/2) have the following meaning: 5.1 = Figure = Position 2 in the key to the figure. 4 3 Safety instructions This device has been built according to the latest technical standards and generally accepted safety regulations. Nevertheless, it can constitute danger to life and limb for operator or third parties and a hazard to the device itself or other equipment during use. (1) Only use the device if in perfect working order and for its intended purpose. You must always pay attention to the instruction manual and safety instructions therein and be aware of the risks! Repair any faults which could affect the device s safety immediately by yourself or have these repaired. The unit is designed exclusively for grinding, milling and polishing work with the tools listed and approved in the JOKE catalogue Surface Finishing. Any other use will be deemed to be contrary to its intended purpose. The manufacturer cannot be held liable for any resulting damages. The risk is borne solely by the user. Correct use also includes compliance with the instruction manual and an observation of the care and maintenance conditions. (2) Keep the instruction manual handy at the device s place of use. CAUTION! (3) Pay attention to and observe generally applicable statutory and otherwise binding regulations relating to accident prevention and environmental protection in addition to the information provided in the instruction manual! (4) All personnel commissioned to work on or with the device must have read this instruction manual, and particularly the safety instructions chapter, before starting work. This applies especially for personnel who only work with the device occasionally. (5) Stop the device immediately should you notice changes to the device or its operating behaviour that are relevant to its safety. Have these remedied before restarting work. (6) Do not carry out any modifications, additions or conversions to the device! This also applies to the installation and adjustment of safety equipment. (7) Spare parts must meet the technical requirements specified by the manufacturer. This can only be guaranteed with original JOKE spare parts. 4

5 3 Safety instructions (8) Any work on/with the device may only be carried out by qualified, appropriately trained and authorised personnel. Pay attention to minimum statutory age limits! CAUTION! (9) Wear safety goggles when working with the handpiece. (10) Personnel undergoing training or in a general apprenticeship should only be allowed to work with the machine under the constant supervision of an experienced operator! (11) Restrain from any type of work that could jeopardise your safety. (12) The device may only be used if all protective and safety equipment is in place and in proper working order. (13) Do not leave the device unattended when switched on!! (14) Stop and secure the device immediately in the event of malfunctions! Faults must remedied at once. (15) When installing new storage batteries, return the used storage batteries to JOKE. 5

6 4 Warranty/identification Joisten & Kettenbaum warrant the correct manufacture of every Joisten & Kettenbaum product which is delivered in accordance with the terms of contract and delivery. This warranty does not cover damages caused by normal wear and tear, incorrect handling, negligent use, the fitting of non-original spare parts, inadequate care and/or a failure to comply with this technical manual. The device may only be used by appropriately trained personnel. If it is not, all warranty claims will be forfeited according to the terms of delivery. Device identification The manufacturer s code and type code, CE label and series number can be found on the rear of the control units or in the case of the handpieces on the handle sleeve. 6

7 5 Device overview Purpose The original DIPROFIL hand-filing machines are used in conjunction with the corresponding tools (refer to the JOKE catalogue) for filing, grinding, lapping and polishing in tool and mould building and in the precision mechanical industry. Principle The DIPROFIL hand-filing machines are driven by compressed air by an integrated spherical piston motor. It is essential to lubricate the machines with a special oil during work by means of a maintenance unit. Failure to observe this will result in destruction of the motor! Dust and dirt entering the air connection jeopardise the function of the motor! 9

10 7 Operation/care Commissioning of the DIPROFIL hand-filing machine FPD/R + FPL/R 1. Unscrew the tool holder screw (7.2/3) and retighten after inserting the tool. Remove the guide ring (7.2/2) from the machine housing after unscrewing the securing screw (7.2/6) so that the tool can be freely inserted. After pushing back the guide ring and securing the screw, a fixed connection with the machine housing is re-established. Only use a tool authorised according to the JOKE catalogue! Fig

11 7 Operation/care 2. Remove the protection screw (7.2/4) in order to adjust the working stroke. 3. Unscrew the clamping screw (7.2/1) and subsequently rotate the loose eccentric shaft (7.2/5) so that the index mark on the outer ring points to the figure that indicates the desired stroke in mm. 4. Retighten the clamping screw; apply the protective hood and lock. 5. In order to switch on and off, operate the crossways pin on the rapid-action coupling. Adjust the motor speed on the adjusting ring (7.2/8). Never allow the machine to run without the protection cap (7.2/4)! Instructions for operation Recommended stroke length 0,5-3 mm for filing 3-6 mm for polishing Max. number of strokes 10,000 min -1 For the tools used, refer to the diagram on the following page. Vibrations exceeding 2.5 m/s 2 may represent a risk of injury if the machine is used daily and constantly. CAUTION! Constant contact with components that perform a to-and-fro movement may result in vibration damage. A higher speed than that indicated in the diagram should be avoided! INFORMATION! In order to reduce the vibration-induced stress, always use the hand-filing machine with the rubber coating. 12

13 7 Operation/care Automatic use The DIPROFIL hand-filing machines are designed as manually operated machines. With the aid of an mandrel, which is screwed in place instead of the closing screw (7.2/7), automatic use of the device is also possible (e.g. on a lathe). Cooling of the hand-filing machines Additional air cooling is possible for constant use of the device. For this purpose, the housing is equipped with a rapid-action coupling to which an air hose (Ø 2 mm) can be connected. Purified compressed air should be used for cooling. Air pressure approx. 1 bar. 13

14 7 Operation/care Cleaning and lubrication The movable parts such as the piston, coupling piece and eccentic must be regularly cared for and maintained. This reduces wear and ensures perfect functioning. Lubrication is to be performed as follows: Remove the protective cover (7.2/4) and carefully lubricate the piston with light spindle oil high-performance lubricant X During normal operation lubrication should be performed daily. The needle bearing in the coupling connector also requires a few drops of oil every day. The other bearings used are encapsulated and permanently lubricated. They are maintenance-free and are replaced in the event of a repair. 14
