4 ABOUT US Since 2006, MultiLane has been offering high speed test and measurement equipment for data communications. As the industry has evolved from 10 Gigabit Ethernet to 400G Ethernet, we have kept pace with full circle support of data center interconnect test solutions encompassing IC and transceiver characterization, host line card testing, and link testing. We provide a range of form factors and architectures, from portable instruments, to stand-alone bench top instruments to automated test platforms. We also assist our customer base with compliance test services. We serve developers, module vendors, network installers, and data center operators with high-performance, reliable equipment that won t bust the budget. Currently, MultiLane has leading edge test solutions for the latest data center technologies such as 400G Ethernet with 100 Gbps data running on a single wavelength (100G per lambda). We also have a comprehensive set of development solutions for QSFP-DD. As any engineer knows, if you can t test a system, you can't make it. That means equipment vendors need test solutions in place at the moment they begin developing components for a given data rate. As a result, our focus has always been to have solutions ready when the market needs them. We develop our products and solutions in close collaboration with tier-one equipment vendors. In the data center market, communications isn t the only thing that needs to happen quickly. Companies need to get products to market as rapidly as possible to maximize market share. With a combination of proprietary technology and deep domain expertise, MultiLane is agile enough to quickly respond to customer needs. 5 INSTRUMENTS BERTs Communications testing often starts with a bit error rate tester (BERT). These instruments generate a digital test pattern¾typically a pseudorandom binary sequence (PRBS)¾that is used to drive a device under test (DUT) which could be an optical module plugged into the faceplate of the instrument. After transmission through the link, the signal is captured by the receiver in the BERT. The setup can be used to evaluate performance of a transmitter, receiver, or an optical link. MultiLane supports general purpose BERTs that connect through fixtures and coax cables, or BERTs that have a MSA compliant standard interface such as QSFP or OSFP. A BERT needs to be tailored to the characteristics of the device under test. 7 OSCILLOSCOPES Digital sampling oscilloscopes are essential tools for evaluating the performance of transmitters through jitter and eye-diagram analysis. In some cases, they are used in conjunction with a BERT, which generates the digital test pattern and the oscilloscope captures the signal after it has run through the device under test for signal quality analysis. 13 ADAPTERS & ANALYZERS There are two main types of adapters. Type one provides a transition from one form factor to another, for example CFP2 to QSFP28. Type two is a diagnostic adapter, which routes the high-speed signals and provides access to the low-speed management signals. This can be used in combination with an analyzer module, which enables the debugging of a host-to-module connection. 15 OPTICAL SWITCH BOXES Automated test platforms need an Optical Switch Box to enable the system to measure the performance of transmitters and receivers at multiple wavelengths or channels depending on the transceiver design. The MLO4034 Optical Switch Box incorporates a WDM demultiplexer, integrated power meters, variable optical attenuators, and optical switches to form an integrated switch matrix. AUTOMATED TRANSCEIVER TESTING 100G CWDM4 has arrived at the data center. Testing transmitters and receivers just became four times more time-consuming and four times more complex. The technician connects the switch box to an oscilloscope and the appropriate BERT. At a press of the start button, the platform runs the tests and generates a detailed printout of results. The solution uses either the ML4070 BERT margin tester or the ML4054 BERT optimized for manufacturing environments. 17 COMPLIANCE TEST It s not enough to develop a component. You need to be able to confirm performance and demonstrate interoperability. We offer two different approaches to compliance testing, depending on your needs. Compliance Test Suite For organizations who want to perform testing, we offer the Compliance Test Suite, designed to test hosts and modules for OIF_CEI_03.1 and IEEE_CAUI-4 compliance. The solution supports output tests and stressed input tests. An output test requires an oscilloscope, a reference clock, and a DUT. The user makes the hardware connections, chooses the standard of interest, configures the DSO, then chooses the appropriate measurements. A stressed input test requires a BERT, an oscilloscope, an MCB, and an HCB. For both tests, the system generates a report showing performance relative to the standard chosen. Compliance Test Services Qualifying parts can be time-consuming and challenging, at the time when lean staffing rules the day. Your focus should be on developing and manufacturing products to serve your customers. Leave the compliance testing to us.
