6 Charitable Contributions Four focus areas of giving: Arts & Culture Community Development Education Environment 2013 Highlights/Accomplishments BGE Emergency Response/Safety grants contributing nearly $360,000 to more than 40 nonprofit organizations throughout the BGE service area resulting in engagement of local press and elected officials. Successful launch of BGE Green Grants contributing nearly $400,000 to 50 non-profit organizations throughout the BGE service area resulting in significant press coverage, political recognition and community support. Partnership with Higher Achievement, organization that provides before and after school instruction for at-risk students. Fifty students received hands-on training at the BGE Whitemarsh facility for STEM learning projects. KaBoom! playground build more than 100 employee volunteers participated in a playground build in Annapolis benefitting more than 1200 local children. Executive Engagement BGE Leaders serve on nearly 100 non-profit organizations throughout central Maryland. Nearly 50% of charitable giving was to diversity organizations. 5

8 BGE s External Customer Outreach Program BGE has developed an external outreach process by which communications needs for customers surrounding high visibility projects are assessed, developed, implemented and monitored. BGE considers outreach needs for projects whose service dates are in the 2-year plan and develops a customized communication plan for each project to keep customers informed and minimize disruptions, where appropriate. BGE has a toolkit of outreach communications and customizes the toolkit depending on the needs of customers surrounding each project. 15 Reliability Initiatives/Improvements System-wide BGE has a number of reliability initiatives/improvements/programs that are implemented to improve reliability. Portfolio of BGE Reliability Focused Programs: Reliability Process Initiative (RPI) Vegetation Management Poorest Performing Feeder Improvement Overhead Lines Inspection Wood Pole and Overhead Inspection and Maintenance (OHIM) Cable Replacement Substation Wildlife Protection Other system improvement programs PSC-mandated regulations (RM 43) intended to further enhance service: Overhead inspection program to improve reliability New requirement to address equipment that triggers outages five or more times within a 12- month period Recent standards for trimming and removing trees around power lines, mandating Blue Sky Trimming standards on all feeder mains from the substation to the first protective device In 2014, BGE implemented the Electric Reliability Investment initiative (ERI) 14

16 Reliability Initiatives/Improvements City of Bowie Continuing Tree Trimming to Bowie Standards : Conducted 48 miles of vegetation trimming along 5 feeders : Conducting vegetation trimming on 3 feeders, accounting for 12 miles Cable Replacement : Completed 2 primary jobs, installing 15,691 feet of underground cable in Bowie. - Through September 30, 2014: Completed 3 primary jobs, installing 11,804 feet of underground cable in Bowie. 15

City of Bowie Diverse Routing of 34kV circuits to Bowie Substations - Priest Bridge to Levitt Substation - Work completed in December Utilizing supply to Buena Vista to achieve redundant supplies - Priest Bridge/Riva Rd to Mitchellville Substation - Currently the project is undergoing a feasibility study - Studying Primary and Alternate feeds to Mitchellville from both Priest Bridge and Riva Rd - Diverse routing will allow supply to substations by using different rights-of-way and incorporating selective undergrounding of 34kV circuits Priest Bridge to Mitchellville 34kV Re-conductoring - Work completed in December

19 BGE Moving Forward In its May 2013 rate case application, BGE proposed the Electric Reliability Investment (ERI) initiative Expansion of the Poorest Performing Feeder Program 3% to 6% Expansion of Vegetation Management Increased application of Blue Sky Trim Standards CAIDI Improvements Deploy additional sectionalizing devices Install fault indicators at location of sectionalizing devices Utilize temporary cables Increase the number of reporting locations for field crews 18

20 Electric Reliability Investment (ERI) Initiative In 2014, BGE began to implement the Electric Reliability Investment initiative (ERI) in order to accelerate reliability enhancements to the distribution system. ERI contains five programs designed to bring reliability improvements in a number of key areas on substation supply lines and distribution feeders. The programs in ERI, while primarily focused on improving reliability, will also harden the distribution system during major storms and against certain natural hazards. ERI will reduce the number of outages customer experience and the duration of outages that do occur. ERI is estimated to improve electric reliability on a system-wide basis. 19

22 Smart Meter Deployment Status Prince George s County Smart Meter deployment started in Prince George s County in September ,000 out of 92,000 gas and electric Smart Meters have been installed. Smart Meter installation began in Bowie in August 2012 and is currently 93% complete (~3% opt out rate) Maryland PSC established Smart Meter opt-out fees in February

23 Smart Meter Benefits Reduced Truck Rolls to Connect and Disconnect Service Faster service for customers moving in and out of homes. Avoided over 61,584 truck rolls since this capability went live in July Faster Storm Response Meters can be pinged to determine if a customer has service. Fewer truck rolls necessary to verify service is restored. During the February Ice Storm, BGE avoided over 860 truck rolls, confirming the restoration of over 1,000 customers without needing a crew on-site. Smart Energy Manager Track energy costs. Create a customized plan to better control energy use. Sign up for Unusual Usage Alerts to be notified when usage is higher than normal. Smart Energy Rewards 22
