Consider incorporating as many of the items as possible from Table 1 [in ASHRAE s GAME Plan] into your daily activities. On your next professional project, do a life cycle cost analysis on the energy consuming systems where you compare the installed costs and AIR-CONDITIONING ENGINEERS ASHRAE Commits to Sustainability by Walking the Talk But, What you can do as a member? ASHRAE energy usage for different system components with different levels of efficiency. If this is not something your company would normally do, you might have to find time to do so on your own. Summarize the results and do what you can to encourage the owner or project managers to select the choice that first V O L U M E I I, I S S U E 3 minimizes energy usage and secondly results in the lowest life-cycle cost. (Evaluate the total picture and be prepared to make a recommendation install the more energy efficient unit, even if the life-cycle cost is not as good as the less efficient unit. As the products are used in greater volume, the initial cost will also reduce; therefore, that product will become the one with the lowest lifecycle cost.) A general informational session will include various types of condensers, their applications, and the advantages/disadvantages of using them. Maintenance information will also be reviewed.

2 PAGE 2 President s Message last month, we kicked off our first joint meeting of the year with ASPE. Through their efforts, we had the privilege of listening to an update from Tom Tjernlund, Vice- President of Tjernlund Products, on forced-draft exhaust applications, including a small demonstration where he was able to walk us thru the different components of a modulating draft system. On behalf of our chapter, I d like to thank ASPE and Tom for a great presentation. As we turn the corner toward the heavy winter, we begin our two month stretch of non-joint meetings. As such, what we have done here is developed topics focused on a specific area of our everyday design world. In January, we ll be looking at Sound Control and Duct Design. This month, however, we ll be hearing from Beth Shelley, Assistant Regional Sales Manager of Evapco, Inc. Beth will be presenting on the various types of evaporative condensers as well as a review of the different applications and advantages and disadvantages of their incorporation into a system design. Speaker Bio Beth Shelley Assistant Regional Sales Manager Evapco, Inc - Industrial Refrigeration Marketing Beth shelley has been with Evapco for 3 years serving both the HVAC Marking and IR marketing departments. Duties include: Technical Sales support for Evaporators, Evaporative Condensers and other refrigeration products. Beth has been an active participant of the IIAR Marketing Committee, and I am currently subcommittee chair for the Student Involvement Program. Education: B.S.
