The first quarter of this year has been great for the chapter. We ve had well-attended meetings, tours and technical seminars. We have even more planned for rest of the year! This month s meeting will be a joint meeting with ASPE and the featured presentation will be about Integrated Building Design lead by ASHRAE Distinguished Lecturer Charles E. Gulledge, P.E. 2 Technical Activities Committee April Meeting: Energy Impacts of Domestic Water Pressure Boosting We ll discuss the necessary criteria engineers need to consider to properly design and select a domestic water pressure booster system for different applications. The talk will focus on the considerations that need to be taken by a design engineer to ensure the right equipment is selected for a range of different applications. The discussion begins with a focus on pressure booster pump sizing that will touch on Hunter s Curve and pump pressure loss calculations. From there, the talk will move on to the main components of a typical pressure booster system with an emphasis on the booster control panel and the system hydropneumatic tank. Constant speed booster systems will be compared to variable speed systems both in terms of design and operating cost advantages. Presenter: Paul Cambpell With a BSME from Portland State University, Paul has been involved with many aspects of Plumbing and HVAC systems over the last 22 years from design, troubleshooting, to technical training. Paul is currently Business Development Manager for Columbia Hydronics Co. (CHC) a manufacturer s representative with (10) offices in (7) Western states and over 130+ employees. Paul has extensive experience as a Manufacturer s Representative and Package Systems Manufacturer of Plumbing, HVAC Hydronics, Steam, and Heat Transfer Products. 3 April 16th Joint ASHRAE/ASPE Meeting: Integrated Building Design The quest of successfully providing a truly Integrated Building Design (IBD) continues to challenge our industry and the built world. This program looks at these challenges, identifies barriers to success, and explores solutions to promote and achieve holistic IBD. The presentation will cover the following topics: What is IBD? Project delivery techniques Design team structures Design discipline cross-links and coordination Hidden barriers How do we make IBD work? Program presenter: Charles E. Gulledge, P.E. Mr. Gulledge is a past Director-at-Large for ASHRAE, serving on the Board of Directors. He has served as Chair of ASHRAE Technical Committee 7.1: Integrated Building Design. Mr. Gulledge has presented multiple presentations on the Integrated Building Design topic as an ASHRAE Distinguished Lecturer at chapter meetings and at society meetings for the ASHRAE Learning Institute. He has also conducted Integrated Building Design training for the ASHRAE Learning Institute at industry organizations such as the New York City Transit Authority and NAVFAC. Mr. Gulledge is a Senior Mechanical Engineer with the design/build firm of AC Corporation in Greensboro, NC. He has over 29 years of experience in the HVAC industry; including four years as manager of Project and Energy Management for the City of Greensboro, NC. 3

STEM Career Conference Presented by Sammamish High School with support of Bellevue School District May 28th, :30 pm to 9:00 pm The inaugural BSD STEM Career Conference is an evening event open students, parents, and interested community partners across the Bellevue School District to learn about opportunities in STEM career fields from professionals and academics. This event is designed to inspire students to pursue STEM careers, provide new insights and information for parents, and to help universities and industries to connect with students. The evening consists of three main components: 1) A keynote speaker address; 2) Breakout sessions of varying STEM topics; and 3) Time to connect individually with panel members. You can participate by either hosting a Booth or as a Panelist. This is a great opportunity to share your love of Engineering with local high school students and parents.
