2 Mission To provide support and guidance on the development and maintenance of monitoring programs that promote Chesapeake Bay Program adaptive management and effective decision making by tracking status and trends for key environmental indicators.
3 Mission To provide support and guidance on the development and maintenance of monitoring programs that promote Chesapeake Bay Program adaptive management and effective decision making by tracking status and trends for key environmental indicators.
4 Purpose Workgroup members will work together to determine feasibility of the Chesapeake Bay Program Scientific Technical Advisory Committee (STAC) recommended monitoring needs associated with the new Bay Agreement. (BEI Phase III recommendations) Based on STAC recommendations, work with the Goal Implementation Teams (GITs) to identify the current capacity of the monitoring programs and gaps in monitoring. Work with GITs on opportunities for implementing additional monitoring through partnerships with more science providers.
5 Objectives Manage Chesapeake Bay Water Quality Monitoring Program Networks. Coordinate monitoring supporting the 2014 Chesapeake Bay Agreement Outcomes. Build upon Citizen Science and other networks to sustem and grow monitoring program support. Use the Building Environmental Intelligence process to help refine monitoring approaches and opportunities for new outcomes. Work with GITs to identify and collaborate with additional partners.
6 2015 Priorities Establish a Chair for the Workgroup. Establish membership of the workgroup. Complete and publish with CBP the Building Environmental Intelligence Phase II report Complete and publish the Enhanced Monitoring tri-fold summary of the 2014 CBP-STAR Global Monitoring Seminar series that informed the BEI phase II report. Initiate BEI Phase III to track monitoring programs and new needs related to tracking outcomes for the new Bay Agreement. Provide guidance to the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay on specific project selections that fosters development of Citizen science and nontraditional partner monitoring integration. Conduct one or more STAC workshops using recommendations form the BEI Phase II report to continue to develop monitoring program support and design identified in such workshops.

(Evolving) Complete and publish with CBP the Building Environmental Intelligence Phase II report (Summer 2015: Final draft is in colleague review for comments. Late summer/early autumn release.). Complete and publish the Enhanced Monitoring tri-fold summary of the 2014 CBP-STAR Global Monitoring Seminar series that informed the BEI phase II report. (Summer 2015: Final copy is being developed for later summer/autumn 2015 release) Initiate BEI Phase III to track monitoring programs and new needs related to tracking outcomes for the new Bay Agreement. (Mindy Ehrich is leading an accounting of monitoring program status and needs assessment. Matrix is under development.) Provide guidance to the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay on specific project selections that fosters development of Citizen science and nontraditional partner monitoring integration. (RFP New award has been established in Initial meetings have take place.) Conduct one or more STAC workshops using recommendations form the BEI Phase II report to continue to develop monitoring program support and design identified in such workshops. (Early planning stages are underway).
8 Operations Quarterly meetings as a workgroup. In between, monthly meetings with 1-2 focus topics to address integration strategies. Goal: A technical report or similar product would summarize recommendations for monitoring program development, maintenance and integration.
