18 CONSTRUCTION, ASSEMBLING AND COMMISSIONING During the set up of a new machine: RMS is used for the automation system parameters tuning and monitoring. Up to ten (10) virtual Operator Stations are reachable by a secure connection between the Remote Assistance Server and referenced Personal Computers (PC) placed outside the Plant Network SPE is used for the mechanical assistance 18

20 SMART POWERFUL EYE (SPE) THE TWO MAIN PARTS A helmet with a camera, a torch with a second camera, a headset and a microphone to transmit audio and video stream to an assistance station at Ansaldo Energia headquarters. A viewer is mounted on the helmet and displays film and images received from the headquarters. An assistance station at the headquarters displays the videos from the site and reproduces the voice from the operator headset. The expert using the assistance station can send to the operator on site videos and images and can fully interact with him 20

21 SMART POWERFUL EYE (SPE) FULL INFORMATION SHARING Using a dedicated software, the operator at the headquarters can see the images captured by the camera on the helmet and communicate via audio with the engineer on the plant By means of the viewer, technical information can be made available to the operator on plant including documents, CAD drawings, snapshots, film segments, etc. 21

26 APPROACH FOR PLANTS IN VERY DANGEROUS AREAS Plants in very critical areas usually present several difficulties to be managed: site location poor data communication infrastructure employment of local unexperienced personnel The Remote Assistant Centre has to be placed in a nearby country, moreover a link with Ansaldo s Headquarter turns out to be very useful. Every application of the SPE system requires a preliminary assessment of the usage conditions, in order to set up the system properly. In particular the peculiarities of each site demand a feasibility study both for the cabling and for the WIFI coverage, since the connection quality is a crucial point for the good results of the SPE system.
