3 DAV Steering Committee members expressed some interest in a pooled fund project to evaluate NCSC looked into the situation Manufacturers have been developing mixless DAVs Mixless DAVs appear promising Time to move now?

7 CoreLok in NC Region Illinois evaluated 300+ cores Problem: Raises the bar. Need to change specs or you would, in effect, increase density requirement Kansas implemented CoreLok in standard method for bulk specific gravity in lieu of paraffin-coated specimen Missouri investigating CoreLok and working on test method for HMA and agg

8 CoreLok in NC Region Minnesota Recommend as replacement for D1188 Require for designing SMA Use modified D6752 Indiana Use for open-graded mixes Not evaluating for dense-graded

9 CoreLok Action No further research appears to be needed for the region Perhaps an opportunity for achieving unified spec based on D6752 or AASHTO equivalent NCSC review current protocols and recommend standardized method? Opinions?

Skok report already summarizes usage FHWA summarized shortcomings Variety of devices (APA, PurWheel, Hamburg) make comparisons difficult High capital equipment cost for NCSC to purchase and evaluate- may not be most judicious use of the funds NCSC can accommodate PurWheel evaluations of mixes will provide relative ranking of performance wet and/or dry

19 Friction and Surface Texture DFT and CTM available in March Could be used for forensics, research, spot checks, etc. We can be flexible to suit states needs States could join current research effort Add their materials to test matrix Will provide further details to interested states

20 Stripping and Surface Energy McDaniel chairs NCHRP panel overseeing project to develop screening test methods Dallas Little using surface free energy Purdue has capabilities to do this type of testing Would there be interest in evaluating regional materials? Probably premature, but a heads up

21 New Training Class? Training in Dynamic Modulus and/or Superpave Performance Test has been suggested Do you see a need? Formal group training or informal one-onone? Now or later?
