16 Access 32/40 Broadband Availability 10/10 Eighteen (18) last mile broadband providers currently provide service in Van Wert County Broadband Speeds 1/ % of households have access to 3 Mbps or greater More than 71% of Van Wert County homes have access to 50 Mbps Broadband Competition 5/ % of Van Wert County households have access to more than 1 broadband provider Middle Mile Access 6/10 Middle mile fiber infrastructure is available from multiple providers in Van Wert County Mobile Broadband 10/ % of Van Wert County households have access to mobile broadband 16
17 Adoption 36/40 Digital Literacy 8/10 3 Digital Literacy Programs in the community have trained 199 participants Public Computer Centers 10/10 8 Public Computer Centers (PCC) with a total of 20 computers are open to the public Broadband Awareness Campaigns 10/10 2 Broadband Awareness Campaigns are reaching 100% of Van Wert County Vulnerable Population Focus 8/10 4 organizations are working with vulnerable populations 17
18 Use 33/40 Economic Opportunity 10/10 At least 9 uses of broadband were identified in the area of economic opportunity including 1 advanced use Education 10/10 At least 5 advanced uses of broadband were identified in the area of education in addition to 5 basic uses Government 3/10 At least 3 uses of broadband were identified in the area of government Healthcare 10/10 At least 7 uses of broadband were identified in the area of healthcare including 3 advanced uses and 4 basic uses 18
19 Priority Projects County & City Community Fiber Loop Completion Communicate with local middle mile and last mile broadband provider(s) to identify existing fiber that the county and city governments are currently using. Once existing infrastructure is identified, work with provider(s) in a legal capacity to improve and finalize fiber loop to provide redundancy to area organizations. The project has the opportunity to expand access and speeds to existing and future customers within the community. 19
20 Priority Projects Hiring a County Information Technology Manager Hiring a County Information Technology Manager allows local government to realize cost savings and achieve greater efficiency and effectiveness. The position will discuss departmental needs, review all information technology requests, and act in an advisory capacity to the Van Wert Board of County Commissioners. Technology requests may include hardware, software, networking, website design, disaster recovery, policy and procedures, and others as required. 20
21 Priority Projects Implement Countywide GIS system Build a Countywide GIS system to improve the ability of residents and businesses to conduct business within Van Wert County on computers and over the Internet. 21
