2 Overview One of the main considerations for integrating distributed (and especially solar) energy resources into the electricity grid is how to ensure a safe and non-disruptive flow to the network. Reliability and safety are main concerns for utilities, manufacturers, developers and regulators alike. This energy summit, featuring many of the industry s foremost technical experts in this arena, will address fundamental interconnection standards and grid codes that have been developed to facilitate this integration process with regard to distributed energy resources. Attendees will examine in detail the existing distribution standards and codes, the bulk power grid codes, and how the two different systems can be harmonized. Attendees will also gain insight into potential regulation changes under consideration, and the impact these could have in future implementation scenarios. Who Should Attend Representative Organizations Vertically integrated utilities and local distribution companies Distributed and renewable energy developers and independent power producers Distributed and renewable energy resource consultants Distributed and renewable energy manufacturers Attorneys practicing in renewable energy or distributed resources Public utility commissioners and staff Engineering firms and services providers Balancing authorities Independent system and Regional transmission operators (ISO/RTOs) Department Areas Power engineering Electrical engineering Distribution and interconnection services Bulk power and marketing operations System balancing Renewable and distributed energy portfolio policy and implementation Learning Outcomes Assess industry standards and codes relevant to distributed generation and renewable resources Analyze utility-specific requirements for interconnection Identify overlap, synthesis and fragmentation among various codes, standards and orders Review changes being considered to various codes and standards for interconnection Distinguish FERC orders from industry codes and standards Evaluate criteria and policy framework for effective interconnection practices Examine PV advanced inverter technology and its functionalities Examine various case studies and application scenarios for PV integration at the distribution level 2
