Exemplar for internal assessment resource Digital Technologies for Achievement Standard Exemplar for Internal Achievement Standard Digital Technologies Level 2 This exemplar supports assessment against: Achievement Standard Implement advanced procedures to produce a specified digital information outcome with dynamically linked data An annotated exemplar is an extract of student evidence, with a commentary, to explain key aspects of the standard. It assists teachers to make assessment judgements at the grade boundaries. New Zealand Qualifications Authority To support internal assessment NZQA 2014
Exemplar for internal assessment resource Digital Technologies for Achievement Standard Grade Boundary: Low Excellence 1. For Excellence, the student is required to efficiently implement advanced procedures to produce a specified digital information outcome with dynamically linked data. This involves undertaking techniques and procedures in a manner that economises the use of resources in the outcome s production and its use (e.g. in a timely fashion, optimising the specific features of tools and the application of dynamically linked data). The assessor indicated that the student efficiently implemented advanced procedures by using the most time efficient techniques. In producing the database and documents the student worked deliberately without trial and error, produced minimum drafts for checking (mostly checked on screen), created templates and used their time in class well, along with working independently and accurately. For a more secure Excellence, this document s presentation could be improved, for example by applying design elements and formatting techniques to the Jordan Craig information (1), in order to economise the use of resources and ensure that the white space is better distributed. This would improve the usability of the document. NZQA 2014

Exemplar for internal assessment resource Digital Technologies for Achievement Standard Grade Boundary: High Merit 2. For Merit, the student is required to skilfully implement advanced procedures to produce a specified digital information outcome with dynamically linked data. This involves: showing accuracy with the techniques, the application of design elements and procedures showing independence with regard to decision making in the application of techniques, design elements and procedures. From the assessor s supplied information, the student skilfully implemented the advanced procedures by working independently in both testing and applying the procedures. All of the work was completed without help from the assessor or other students. Where the student needed help they used the internet or online help for the application. Accuracy has been demonstrated across all documents by the lack of errors. The assessor indicated that the student used the database testing tools in Access and could explain and correct the errors, visually checked the data in the database against the source data, and used draft documents to proofread and inform design changes. The student has accurately provided the source details for the images (1). To reach Excellence, there would need to be some evidence of the student working efficiently, for example making the best use of time in class, using the best tools to produce the outcome, batch processing images, the outcome being usable by the reader, easily modifiable. NZQA 2014

Exemplar for internal assessment resource Digital Technologies for Achievement Standard Grade Boundary: Low Merit 3. For Merit, the student is required to skilfully implement advanced procedures to produce a specified digital information outcome with dynamically linked data which involves. showing accuracy with the techniques, the application of design elements and procedures showing independence with regard to decision making in the application of techniques, design elements and procedures. From the assessor s supplied information, the student has skilfully implemented the advanced procedures by working independently in both testing and applying the procedures. All of the work was completed without help from the assessor or other students. Where the student needed help they used the internet or online help for the application. Accuracy has been demonstrated across all documents by the lack of errors. The assessor indicated that the student had used the database testing tools in Access and could explain and correct the errors. The student also visually checked the data in the database against the source data, and used draft documents to proofread and inform design changes. For a more secure Merit, the student could have applied the design elements to comply with commonly accepted codes of practice, used styles tools (1), alignment (2), and used the table of contents tools in Word (3) to ensure accuracy. NZQA 2014

Exemplar for internal assessment resource Digital Technologies for Achievement Standard Grade Boundary: High Achieved 4. For Achieved, the student is required to implement advanced procedures to produce a specified digital information outcome with dynamically linked data. This involves: designing and creating a database with field types that meet data requirements using tools of the software to integrate data from a database and at least one other software application using dynamic linking applying design elements and/or formatting techniques as suited to the outcome applying data integrity and testing procedures to ensure the outcome meets the specifications following legal, ethical and moral responsibilities as required for the outcome. The student implemented the advanced procedures to create a functional two table database (1) and was able to create the queries (2), forms (3), and reports (4). They have carried out the basic testing and data integrity checking and met all of the specifications. The student has linked their database to a newsletter, and demonstrated in the newsletter some advanced processes (table of contents (5), multi-level bullets (6) footnotes (8), and section breaks will have been required for the two column area (7). The Rotorua results and the rider profile are both embedded and linked back to the database (9). The design elements and/or formatting of the document are acceptable. The student has also addressed the legal, moral, and ethical responsibilities, by providing links to where photos came from, using material licenced under Creative Commons (8), and using appropriate language. To reach Merit the student would have to display independence in carrying out the processes in creating the documents and databases. NZQA 2014

Exemplar for internal assessment resource Digital Technologies for Achievement Standard Grade Boundary: Low Achieved 5. For Achieved the student is required to implement advanced procedures to produce a specified digital information outcome with dynamically linked data. this involves: designing and creating a database with field types that meet data requirements using tools of the software to integrate data from a database and at least one other software application using dynamic linking applying design elements and/or formatting techniques as suited to the outcome applying data integrity and testing procedures to ensure the outcome meets the specifications following legal, ethical and moral responsibilities as required for the outcome. The student implemented the advanced procedures to create a functional one table database (1), and was able to create the queries (2), forms (3), and reports (4). The student has demonstrated that they could link a newsletter (Word) to their database (Access) (5), using a table of contents (6), and columns, including column breaks and page breaks (7) and multi-level bullets (8). The student also used reviewing tools to track changes. The student has attempted to address the legal, moral, and ethical responsibilities, by linking to where photos came from and using appropriate language (9). All specifications were met, including Rotorua results (10). For a more secure Achieved, more care is needed in how the page is laid out, demonstrating a better understanding of the design elements. Testing and review of the document, such as an annotated draft, would have improved the formatting and reduced the number of errors in terms of data integrity. NZQA 2014

Exemplar for internal assessment resource Digital Technologies for Achievement Standard Grade Boundary: High Not Achieved 6. The student has successfully created the database (not shown in this exemplar) and linked the database to a newsletter (word processing) (1). To reach Achieved, the student would need to improve the layout of the newsletter and include a wider range of advanced processes demonstrated in the word processing of the documents (Explanatory Note 6). The newsletter needs to meet all of the specifications (e.g. including information about Rotorua). Attribution of images is also needed, to show that the student has adhered to ethical and legal responsibilities. Use of images licences under Creative Commons would also help (2). NZQA 2014
