2 Exemplar for internal assessment resource Digital Technologies for Achievement Standard Grade Boundary: Low Excellence 1. For Excellence, the student is required to efficiently implement advanced procedures to produce a specified digital media outcome. This involves applying tools and techniques, and undertaking procedures, in a manner that economises the use of resources in the outcome s production and usability (e.g. in a timely fashion, with optimisation of tool selection and use). The student has efficiently implemented advanced procedures by using code commenting in both the HTML (1) and the CSS (2) code. The use of commenting in this code is a sign of efficiency in terms of usability as another web designer can more easily make changes. The website has good usability (video). There was evidence from the assessor that the student met the Excellence criteria in terms of economy, by using the most efficient tools in producing the website (bulk image optimisation, choosing the best tools to edit the images), and working without wasting time. For a more secure Excellence, the student could consider using style groupings in the CSS to make the code more efficient. NZQA 2015

5 Exemplar for internal assessment resource Digital Technologies for Achievement Standard Grade Boundary: High Merit 2. For Merit, the student is required to skilfully implement advanced procedures to produce a specified digital media outcome. This involves: showing accuracy in the application of advanced tools, techniques and procedures showing independence with regard to decision making in the selection of digital media software applications and in the application of advanced tools, techniques and procedures. The student has skilfully implemented advanced procedures by creating a website that functions flawlessly. The student used consistent tags across the website (1) (2) and ongoing and incremental testing to ensure that the website worked across a range of browsers and operating systems (video). There was evidence from the assessor that the student met the Merit criteria in terms of independence with regard to decision making, in the selection of digital media software applications, and in the application of advanced tools, techniques and procedures. The student had worked on their own using online help as needed. To reach Excellence, the student would need to improve the efficiency of the development/coding/testing, for example code commenting in the style sheet, better code commenting in the HTML, using a code validator and fixing errors that had been shown. There are some CSS style decisions which have detracted from the readability of the website, for example, white text on an image that has a dominantly white colour scheme (0:44 in the video). 10 Exemplar for internal assessment resource Digital Technologies for Achievement Standard Grade Boundary: High Achieved 4. For Achieved the student is required to Implement advanced procedures to produce a specified digital media outcome. This involves: selecting software based on the features of the program(s) that will enable the student to effectively demonstrate skills in creating, editing and integrating the media types applying a set of advanced tools and techniques suited to the media to enhance the presentation of content applying data integrity and testing procedures to ensure the outcome meets the specifications following legal, ethical and moral responsibilities as required for the outcome. The student has implemented advanced procedures by selecting software based on the features of the program(s) (1). There is evidence of advanced tools in the web design. XHTML1.0 is used with an eternal style sheet (2) (3). The code is semantically correct. A guitar logo in their design (4) has some evidence of composition layer masks and pixel selections. The student created a functional website and has met all of the specifications (video). The student has followed legal, ethical and moral responsibilities. The student has used the images provided, and the website has no inappropriate materials (video). To reach Merit, the student would need more thorough and accurate testing. This would need to be supported in marking by the assessor. NZQA 2015

13 Exemplar for internal assessment resource Digital Technologies for Achievement Standard Grade Boundary: Low Achieved 5. For Achieved, the student is required to Implement advanced procedures to produce a specified digital media outcome. This involves: selecting software based on the features of the program(s) that will enable the student to effectively demonstrate skills in creating, editing and integrating the media types (not included in this exemplar) applying a set of advanced tools and techniques suited to the media to enhance the presentation of content applying data integrity and testing procedures to ensure the outcome meets the specifications following legal, ethical and moral responsibilities as required for the outcome. The student has implemented advanced procedures by using advanced tools in the web design and image editing. The guitar logo has some evidence of composition layer masks and pixel selections and recolouring (1). XHTML1.0 is used with an eternal style sheet (2) (3). The code is semantically correct. The student created a functional website and has met all of the specifications (video). The student has followed legal, ethical and moral responsibilities as required for the outcome. The student has used the provided images, and the website has no inappropriate materials (video). For a more secure Achieved, the student would need more thorough testing and corrected errors. Some of the design elements could have been improved for example the alignment on some pages, and the jquery method works but the content of the popups is not complete. NZQA 2015
