Save ODen Almost everything you can add or change in WindMil is stored only in RAM un9l you Save the Model New elements Edited and Moved elements Connec9on changes Preference changes- including element defaults and display op9ons ALL Equipment Database changes But only if you mean it Close without Saving is the ul9mate UNDO WindMil Enterprise and Projects complicate Saving

The EQDB is More Cri;cal than the Model Know what affects the output of WindMil and what doesn t For example- 10% error in the length of one line sec9on = 10% error in impedance of that sec9on 10% error in impedance of 336 ACSR can affect thousands of line sec9ons and hundreds of miles of line This could be a significant por9on of the system- and the losses Some elements and data have more effect on a model than others

7 4. Don t be afraid to check WindMil s math WindMil is a powerful tool, but it is not a magical black box. Example- WindMil s calculated loss on one long line sec9on seems too high. Watts Loss = Voltage Drop Current Through Element Example 2- Large scale version of above. Total line losses can be approximated in Excel by expor9ng line sec9ons with Voltage Drop results, then applying any mathema9cal calcula9ons you can dream up.

Don t look for errors where WindMil tells you Voltage warnings are usually caused by upline transformers or connec9vity 100 of the same error on 100 different elements is an EQDB problem Equipment warnings on almost every element is an EQDB Link or Path issue Ten things actually wrong can cause thousands of warnings

9 6. Profile- the forgoben troubleshoo;ng tool Normal profiles look like stairs Horizontal axis is not distance Rise on the left is a substation LTC Drop on the right is a loaded transformer

Some WindMil model edits are easier without WindMil Edit Database in Excel Renumber line sec9ons based on feeder Fix inconsistent line sec9on and load names Cost/Benefit analysis for line loss correc9on projects using WindMil load flow results Compare loads in WindMil with client load list & locate differences Edit Database using Lua Rename loads by loca9on from imported Map Points Set fuses sizes according to revised fuse chart Total oil produc9on downline from a fault clearing device & store results in devices Map field Rename elements that feed a load element

13 9. Don t underes9mate Queries Ques9ons: How many capacitor banks? What voltage? Do any have children? They are all connected to Overhead, right?

Convergence is overrated Convergence does not equal Correct or Accurate Reverse is also true- Failure to Converge can be a 100% accurate reflec<on of the real world system Convergence means there is a solu;on to the math problem you asked WindMil to solve. No more. The result could s9ll be incorrect You could be asking the wrong ques9on, or the right ques9on the wrong way The result could have no rela9onship to reality Your perfect solu9on may be impossible to implement on the real system
