7 Doughnut: not much different than a Pie Chart. It shows how multiple components contribute to a whole. Use it to show totals as percentages. Example: we received x number of hits to the website, of all of the hits y area of the site had the most hits. One benefit is that you can stack several series on top of one another. So if you wanted to provide the same type of data for a few years to compare, you can do that. 7

9 Bubble example: use when you have three data series to represent, e.g., x, y, and z series; good for comparing the various variables of multiple projects 9

14 Set up the data, highlight it, and select a chart type from the insert menu. 14
15 No chart feature. But, you can copy a chart from one of the other programs and paste it into a Publisher file. Just use Copy and Paste. TIP: In MS Publisher, you can right-click on any object and save it as an image. So you can save an image of the chart for use in other files. Of course, you would not be able to edit the chart be sure to save the original Excel version of the chart in case you need to edit later. 15

17 It is critical to know how many series or sets of data you want to present in a single chart. Time is a critical factor in making that decision. For instance, let s say you have data regarding number of intake applications received per month and you want to see whether there is any trend that occurs during similar periods in other years. In that case you would separate out each year of data as a series so that you can layer them on top of each other to do a comparison. Alternatively, you may want to look at the progress of hits to your statewide website over time. You would simply show all data for multiple years in one series. 17

20 For data represented in a single series format, the data should be entered in two columns. The first column should show your date and the second column the numeric figure. 20
21 For data represented in a double or triple series format, the data should be entered in three or four columns, respectively. In this example, four columns of data are represented. The first column shows the series of data for which you want to show a comparison. In this case, we want to compare by month. Then the second, third, and fourth column show the data for those months for each respective year. 21

23 Design options include: chart title, titles for the series, the legend, and, Graph colors, which, in the case of a bar graph can include filling the bars with a color or an image, as shown above. Simply right click on the chart to reveal the options for editing the chart type, adding data labels, or formatting the data series 23
