3 3 BoostX Inner/Outer stroke

4 BoostX inner/outer stroke In Adobe Illustrator, it is not possible to create one stroke with a different inner and outer value. A workaround it to create multiple strokes in the Appearance panel and assign the same color to it, but this requires several additional steps. 4

5 BoostX inner/outer stroke With the new BoostX feature, it s quick and easy to create these kind of strokes. Behind the scenes, BoostX translates this into multiple strokes automatically. 5

6 PowerTrapper quality and speed Improvements 6

7 1. Reduction in image references created during trapping If PowerTrapper was spreading images towards other objects, a large number of trap images could be generated in the trap layer. This could lead to performance issues during output and ripping. Via several optimisations, PowerTrapper will now join the trapping area s into individual objects, thereby reducing the nr of image references 7

8 2. Faster contourized bitmap image trapping Packaging files often contain contourized bitmaps. These can be very complex from a lineart point of view. PowerTrapper needs to scan all the edges and this was increasing the trapping speed. In PowerTrapper , optimisations in the trapping algorithm have led to much faster processing of these images. A benchmark done with production files containing contourized bitmaps has shown an average speed improvement of factor 2. 8

Improved overshoot behavior If PowerTrapper detects non-touching objects that would trap as well when they would touch, it will no longer use centertrapping, but overshoot into that object as well. Original file containing Y and C in 2 shadings: 100% and 60% 12.1: Y centertraps to avoid contact with the light C : Y trap overshoots as it would normally trap towards light C as well. 9

11 CT/LP plugin scripting If you want to batch process conversion from or to CT/LP into another PhotoShop file format, this was not possible as the open/save window would pop-up for every file. In Deskpack , you can suppress this window to automate the file conversion task (via an action or script) Documentation and script is available in the Installer. 11

12 What s s new in PowerLayout Standalone 12

13 Presets Save sets of parameters for different sizes of layouts, as presets. Presets can be easily applied and managed from a dropdown box at the top of the palette. To share between several users, presets can be stored on a shared location. 13

14 Distribute Use the distribute functions to automatically calculate the number of repeats and the gap distances based on the trim box size, instead of going through the tedious job of manually calculating the gap distances. In this version, distribute not only works in vertical direction, but also in horizontal as well as in both directions. 14

15 Adjust box The adjust box functions will adjust the trim box dimensions based on the number of repeats and gap distance. It is possible to adjust the trim box height, width or both dimensions together. 15

16 One-ups stored with relative links One-ups are now stored with relative links, to avoid problems with automatically retrieving one-ups when files are transferred to other locations. 16

17 Open one-up To easily access and edit one-ups, it is now possible to open a selected one-up with a single click from within the fly-out menu in the palette. 17

18 Import PowerLayout client templates PowerLayout client templates can easily be converted to PowerLayout standalone templates. Select the client template via the fly-out menu and S&R parameters will be copied to the PowerLayout Standalone palette, replacing one-ups by placeholders. Plate and sheet sizes will be automatically transferred to the Trim Box and Media Box plugin. 18

19 PowerLayout client import assistant The PowerLayout client import assistant can be helpful when several xml templates need to be converted. The assistant will guide you through the process, convert all templates automatically in 1 go and save them as Illustrator files. 19
