2 Computer Prepress Requirements The Daily Herald's creative art and graphics departments use Apple Macintosh computers. We can use the following software programs: (Please specify when using a different version) All higher versions need to be saved in a lower version. Tt Adobe Acrobat (7) PDFs should be system ready Adobe Illustrator (CS2) Adobe InDesign (CS2) Adobe Pagemaker (7) Adobe Photoshop (CS2) Macromedia Freehand (9) Quark Xpress (7)* We accept electronic documents on the following media: Web Based: (Daily Herald site-see Page 4 of this document for information.) Web Based: (2nd party sites) and AdSEND (Code ILARL) PDFs are ideal (color should be in composite form). Documents with elements are acceptable, preferably in a compressed format, such as Stuff-It Deluxe. All electronic files should include the following: 1. The advertiser name 2. A contact name and phone number at your organization. 3. The date your ad will publish. 4. Your Daily Herald sales representative's name. 5. The file format submitted (ie: Freehand 8, Pdf, Quark 3.3) Send fax of ad to FONTS: We use TYPE 1 FONTS. The client needs to include ALL SCREEN & PRINTER FONTS used with their document. This includes fonts that are part of a graphic within the document. 3.5 floppy disks Jaz (2GB) Drive Zip Drive (100 & 250) CD-Rom (ISO 9660 formated) In order to provide you with the best quality we prefer to receive your ad materials in digital format IBM or PC Documents: Since we use Apple Macintosh computers, documents created by DOS or Windows must be saved in a format our software can read. A document containing artwork and type should be saved as an EPS or print file with fonts converted to outlined, paths or curves (depending on application) or a PDF file with fonts embedded. Word documents should be saved as.txt text file and will be re-created in-house. If this is the first time your company is supplying us with a computer file for output, we strongly suggest you provide us with the first file or a test file 72 hours in advance of your ad's deadline A PRINTOUT SUPPLIED BY THE CUSTOMER IS REQUIRED showing us what the ad is to look like

3 Computer Prepress Requirements Spot Color or CMYK (Process colors) Four-color or two colors plus black : All colors need to be converted to CMYK Process colors including the supporting elements inside the ad. One color plus black, The same spot color needs to be used throughout the ad including all supporting elements that are contained in that ad. Please check with your sales rep for acceptable colors or see the next page of this document. Black: We do not support rich black. Be sure all color ads containing black text and fills are only on the black plate. General Information (display and classified) Grayscale and four-color scans are required to be 200 dpi. Art should be within 5% and cropped for the needs of that particular ad. All artwork and scanned photos must be included with each ad. Each graphic needs to have a unique name which does not include special characters (Ex: apostrophe and asterisk). Revised graphics need to be given a new unique name. Line art resolution should not exceed 1200 dpi. ( 600 dpi is preferred ) We can scan art for color seps from color slides, transparencies, negatives, and reflective art. All materials must fit within 11" x 14" area and flexible to fit on drum. Photo reproduction Spectral Highlight=0%, Highlight dot=3%, Quarterton=16%, Midtone=32%, Shadow=85%. 240 Total Ink Coverage. Dot Gain: 20%. Line Screen: 100 lpi. Printer Resolution: 1200 dpi. General Information (Inserts, Post It Notes and Polybags) Grayscale and four-color scans are required to be 300 dpi. Line art resolution should be 1200 dpi. Line Screen: 133 lpi. Printer Resolution: 2400 dpi. Illustrator eps is the preferred format for Post It Notes and Polybags Regarding RGB and JPEG modes from Adobe Photoshop... We cannot accept files from Adobe Photoshop saved in RGB mode. If you send us a file in RGB mode it will appear in the ad as a grayscale (B&W) image. Unused Art or fonts Please refrain from sending art or fonts that are not needed to output your ad. Laser proofs of the ad are required. Ideally, a color ad should include a color proof. Ad Sizes See Page 3 of this document for assorted ad sizes. 4 DAILY HERALD POLY BAG PRESS CAPABILITIES AND ARTWORK REQUIREMENTS STANDARD BAG COLORS Clear, White, Yellow, Orange, Blue, Red Other colors available as needed STANDARD INK COLORS White, Black, Brown PMS 483, Reflex Blue, Red PMS 199, Green PMS 348, Orange PMS 165, Yellow PMS 109 Custom colors available as needed AVAILABLE IMAGE AREA Width of bag minus 1, Length of bag minus 3 (minus 4 if bag has a doorknob hole) PREFERRED IMAGE SIZE: Sunday: 17 x 8 ; Daily: 17 x 6 COPY SPECIFICATIONS TEXT - Minimum of 12 pt medium for positive text, minimum of 14 pt bold for reverse text LINE & FREE POINTS - Minimum of 1 pt rule weight for positive, Minimum of 2 pt for reverse COLOR TO COLOR TRAP - Minimum of 1/16, preferably with a black trap line of 1/8 or greater to trap opposing colors PRESS CAPABILITIES Up to 6 colors on 1 side Must allow for a registration variance of 1/8 total between color Up to 3 colors on 2 sides Screening should be no finer than 45-line screen LEAD TIME Standard lead-time is 4-6 weeks from receipt of approved art to our specs: Consult rep for possibility of shorter lead times STANDARD ARTWORK REQUIREMENTS Suffocation Warning is included in the artwork and is within the image area Right reading negative, emulsion side up; density of 3.8 to 4.0 Pre-Separated negatives required for multiple colors Color to color trap must be within above referenced specs ELECTRONICALLY TRANSMITTED ART/ART ON DISK (charge for imaging as quoted) All support files must be included on disk. All screen and printer fonts must be included on disk. Scanned-in art is not acceptable. Must include mechanical color proof with scale indicated. All art must be vector images set-up in spot color, raster images are not acceptable. Preferred applications are: Quark Express, Adobe Illustrator and Freehand. Use of Multi-ad creator is discouraged. However, if must be used, Creator files must be exported as EPS files. No PDF or jpeg files. HALF TONE SCREEN SPECIFICATIONS Avoid photographs and fine screening since they tend to cause considerable light-to-dark variations. If screening is used, screen line ruling should be 65 lines per inch, with a tonal range of 10 ñ 75% and a screen angle of 50 If screening is used, supply artwork on a disk or call for an address. PLEASE NOTE: ARTWORK REQUIRING CHANGES TO CONFORM TO ABOVE SPECS WILL BE SUBJECT TO ADDITIONAL CHARGES AS QUOTED. SAVE TIME AND MONEY BY DOUBLE CHECKING FINISHED ART BEFORE SUBMITTING.

7 Uploading & Proofing ADS To register: Go to our web site and click on Membership Fill out your Membership information... You choose your login name and password. Required fields have a red * next to them. When finished be sure to click on the submit button. You Are Registered! By registering, you will be able to upload, view, and make corrections to your ad via the internet. Within 48 hours of registering you will be linked to your account. When Your Proof is READY! You will receive an notification with a link that takes you to the AdDesk home page. Click on Proof My Ad and Sign In... Click on VIEW Click on the Response Tab, choose a response type. For changes you will place pins on the ad and then type your comments. When finished be sure to click on the submit button. Remember it is important to always supply your sales rep with up to date account information regarding address(es).
