INTRODUCTION NEW OPERATIONAL FEATURES OF MULTICAM ENGINEERING FEATURES OF MULTICAM SOFTWARE DOWNLOADS AND MANUALS Introduction This newsletter gives the latest features that have been integrated or have been improved in this new release of the Multicam or since the last newsletter issued. 2. New Operational Features of Multicam Codecs Support XT[2]+ and XS servers now natively support the Apple ProRes LT (100 Mbps) as well as the 10-bit ProRes and DNxHD codecs. Improvements have also been developed for improved Super Motion support on the DVCPRO HD codec Hypermotion Support All hypermotion market cameras are now integrated and the interactivity has been improved : NAC (ARRI Media «Hi-Motion», TopVision/DVS) Vision Research (DVS «Super Loupe», LMC «Antelope», I-Movix «SprintCam», Inertia Unlimited «X- Mo») Photron (I-Movix «SprintCam») 2.3. Epsio Integration Multicam Release integrates the support of Epsio. Epsio is now an integral part of the XT[2]+/LSM. LSM operators can instantly control the offside line graphic overlay, allowing the operator to optimize the live production workflow without additional resources. Before the event, the user performs the initial calibration on the Epsio system, where the images of the playfield are matched with predefined angles into the system. Based on this calibration, Epsio is able to instantly and automatically recognize the playfield during actions. The operator can then trigger the offside line along the borders of the playfield in a onesecond operation, using the jog wheel of the LSM Remote Panel. The producer can automatically see a screenshot with the offside line, and decide whether or not to play out the entire action with the offside line effects. 1

2 2.4. Push clips via GBE It is now possible to push clips from the Remote control panel through the Gigabit Ethernet network. The Push function allows operators to easily send a copy of a clip to another machine on both networks, either via the GbE network or the SDTI network. Principle If one or two default targets (push machines) are defined in the Setup Menu, the clip will be automatically sent to these machines. If no default target is defined, the list of machines available on the network will appear. As soon as the operator selects one of them, the clip is pushed. Depending on the push settings defined, the default targets or the list of possible targets submitted to you will contain EVS servers on the SDTI network and/or EVS servers on the GbE network. In both cases, a message appears for a few seconds on the LCD to confirm that the clip is being pushed and indicating the clip location where it will be stored on the receiving machine. Different servers can be mapped as shortcuts on the Soft keys of the Remote control panel for quick access to different push targets. 2

3 2.5. On Screen Display Improvements New audio OSD - Improved readability in HD 2.6. New playlist effects New transition effects are available in the new Multicam Release. Fade to Black/White Fade from Black/White Fade to/from Black/White (V fade) A parameter in the Setup Menu specifies the colour that is used in the transition effect: black (default) or white. In the Playlist Edit mode we can see and change the different transition effects applied to the different clips. The new transition effects are indicated by the following symbols: < Fade from Black < Fade from Black Clip 111A Clip 111A Clip 314B Clip 314B a Fade-Out effect from the defined colour is applied on the first frame of the clip on which the effect is defined - the previous clip ends in cut mode > Fade to Black Clip 111A Clip 314B a Fade-In effect to the defined colour is applied on the previous clip to the transition, a cut is applied to the next clip - on which the effect is defined a Fade-Out effect is applied on the previous clip and a Fade-In effect is v V-Fade Black Clip 111A Clip 314B applied on the clip on which the effect is defined (the effect duration must be a multiple of 2 frames) 3

4 2.7. Operational improvements Sort clips by TC in playlists From the VGA, it is possible to sort (reorder) the playlist elements by TC IN. The sort is done on the TC displayed in the TC IN column, whatever the type of TC displayed (User TC or LTC). Note This operation will change the order of the playlist elements, and reset the transitions to the default transitions defined on the Remote Panel. Change the angle of a clip in a playlist The Other Angle function allows the operator to replace the current playlist element by another playlist element showing a different angle of the recorded material. When you are in Playlist Edit mode, scroll within the playlist to the playlist element for which you want to modify the camera angle and press MENU to access the secondary menu. When the OtherAng option is selected, Multicam loads the local and network trains that include the TC IN of the playlist element to replace. The trains are loaded on the PRV channel, at the current TC of the loaded element. The jog dial is used, in Browse mode, to shift from one record train to the other. Once the requested record train is displayed on the PRV channel, pressing ENTER replaces the current playlist element by the one created from the selected angle. In our example, the first record train (out of the 19) has been loaded on the Preview channel. This will replace the current playlist element by a new clip having the same TC IN and TC OUT. The new clip is stored on the playlist receive page. The effects, split audio and swap points defined on the initial playlist element are preserved. You can only change the camera angle of a playlist element if the material is still available in a local or distant record train. 4

5 Better integration IPD-Multicam in exclusive mode Introduction: The 2nd CTRL function available on the Remote Panel in the main operational menu allows the operator to swap the control of one or several play channels between the EVS Remote Panel and a third-party controller. Both controllers receive permanently the status of the channel(s), but only one controller at a time is able to actually control a channel: this is called the exclusive secondary control mode. The secondary controllers are defined in Section 7 of the Remote Setup menu. Interactions between IPDP and Multicam When a Remote Panel and an IPDirector share the control of some PGMs in exclusive secondary control mode, the following principles apply: When a playlist/timeline is controlled by the Remote Panel on a PGM, the playlist/timeline remains the current one when IPDirector is given the control on the PGM. When a playlist/timeline is controlled by IPDirector on a PGM, the playlist/timeline remains the current playlist on the Remote Panel when the operator takes back the PGM control. When several playlists/timelines have been controlled by IPDirector on several PGMs and the operator takes back the PGM control, the current playlist/timeline on the Remote Panel is the one that was the current playlist when the control was given away, in other words the current playlist/timeline does not change. When the playlist/timeline controlled by IPDirector is not visible by the Remote Panel, the current playlist/timeline on the Remote Panel is the one that was the current playlist when the control was given away, in other words the current playlist/timeline does not change. Swap in 2 PGM mode An older function from the HCT4 days has returned to the Multicam software. In 2 PGM mode, when both PGM outputs are selected on the Remote Panel, pressing the Take button swaps the content loaded on PGM1 with the one loaded on PGM2 and vice-versa. If the user has only 1 PGM channel selected, the system will utilize the TAKE button to allow selection of a source angle to be loaded. 5

6 Confirmation before deleting PL A confirmation message can now be displayed when deleting a playlist. This setting is defined in the Setup Menu with the Confirm Delete parameter on page 3.1. The different possible values for the parameter are the following: Value Off Clips Playlists Clips+Plsts Meaning Clips and playlists are immediately deleted. A confirmation is required for a clip deletion, but not for a playlist deletion. A confirmation is required for a playlist deletion, but not for a clip deletion. A confirmation is required both for a playlist deletion, and for a clip deletion. Clips do not blink while awaiting guardbands In the previous versions of the Multicam, when storing a new clip from a record train, the green led was blinking till the material needed for the guardbands was recorded on the server. With the new version of the Multicam, this is not the case anymore. The F-key on the remote will only blink when a clip is being copied from another server and the copy is in progress. 6

7 Short copy of local clips Copying or moving a clip on the local EVS server is normally performed in LONG mode. Now, the user can perform short copies of clips locally, which only copy the material from the SHORT IN point to the SHORT OUT point. To perform this, the user copies a local clip by pressing [CTRL]+[C], then the user may choose how to paste: [CTRL]+[V] = Paste a normal LONG copy [CTRL]+[SHIFT]+[V] = Paste a short copy of the clip Clear bank from remote It is now possible to clear all unprotected clips stored on a given bank with one operation. To do so, proceed as follows: Select the appropriate page on which you want to delete the unprotected clips in a clip bank. Press [CLEAR] + [SHIFT], and the [F_ key] that corresponds to the clip bank. The following confirmation message will be displayed: Press [ENTER] to confirm and the unprotected clips on the bank are deleted. This can also be done with the playlist banks. Select the appropriate page on which you want to delete the playlists. Press [CLEAR] + [SHIFT], and the [F10 key] that corresponds to the playlist bank. The following confirmation message will be displayed: Press [ENTER] to confirm and the playlists and timelines on the playlist bank of the selected page will be deleted 7

Engineering Features of Multicam XT2+ servers The XT2+ servers support the new SAS drives (as described hereunder) and therefore require a Multicam version equal or higher to To know more about the newly developed XT2+ server, click on the link. 9 3.3. XNet Monitor XNet Monitor is a tool aimed at monitoring EVS products. XNet Monitor displays real time information and status about the servers as well as past alerts and warning messages. It uses the SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) protocol to request and receive monitoring data from the servers. Monitoring for PC applications From this version on (1.01) it is now possible to have a monitoring for other hosts than a server. If this is the case, the monitor data pane will display two tabs. Upload of keyword files It is possible to upload a keyword file on one or several servers directly. Select the servers that have to receive the keyword file and browse then for the file. Export of SNMP information as HTML Server related information can be extracted as a html file. 9

10 3.4. VEDIO EVS XML Job Monitor has been designed to centrally monitor all transfers in a production broadcast workflow. Via the Ethernet Network, all XML jobs are reported from EVS XTAccess or EVS XFile and analyzed in a central server for total reporting of: Sources (e.g. type, name, address) Destinations (e.g. type, name, address) Status (e.g. job duration, progress, completed messages, errors and Tx rates) All of these parameters can be configured, sorted and filtered. Results can also be classified by devices for a clearer view. 10
