7 TWO WORKFLOWS FLAT FILE WORKFLOW Dead simple. Least effort. Least flexible. Fastest. THE HANDLES WORKFLOW Super flexible. Super complicated. Many, many sub-workflows. File name management, media management, essential. Opens up advanced Proxy and Dailies workflows. Decide your workflow BEFORE post-production (or risk becoming really really sad) 7

8 THE FLAT FILE WORKFLOW Edit Step 1: Get to Locked Picture Render & Export Step 3: Render at ProRes422HQ (or better) Prep Step 2: Duplicate Project, Graphic Elements. What about effects? Grade & Render Step 4: Import to FCPX and finish. 8

12 HANDLES WORKFLOW: TIMELINE PREP STEP 1 Step 2 STEP 3 STEP 4 STEP 5 STEP 6 STEP 7 Duplicate the Project. Render a reference movie. Detach and remove all audio. Layback mixdown, if desired. Simplify the Timeline. Flatten to Primary Storyline, Compound clips broken apart Render out Timeremapped clips & replace. Finalize Auditioned Clips; Multicam is Okay, but verify Decide how to handle FX filters? Export FCPXML (currently, Resolve 11.3 supports FCPXML v1.4) 12

13 HANDLES WORKFLOW: XML IMPORT INTO DAVINCI RESOLVE STEP 1 Step 2 STEP 3 STEP 4 STEP 5 STEP 6 STEP 7 Set DaVinci Resolve Project Frame Rate to match FCPX Populate Resolve s Media Pool with the camera originals Import the FCPXML (but disable the Automatic import media files option What went wrong? Investigate, reset Resolve, go back to Step 1 and try again Look for and solve clip conflicts Conform against the reference movie. Solve problems. Execute the prerender, ensure the Resolve FCPXML works back in FCP X 13
