3 First Steps Installation Note: Nero Kwik Media checks the availability of required components, such as Microsoft Silverlight on your PC. If applications are missing, an appropriate screen is displayed. Click the Install button to proceed. A third party installation wizard may appear and walk you through the installation process. A reboot may be required. The Nero installation will automatically proceed after the reboot is executed. C The Installation of Nero Ask Toolbar screen is displayed. Installation of Nero Kwik Media Note: To install Nero Kwik Media, you need administrator rights for all operating systems. An installation wizard walks you through the quick and uncomplicated installation process. To install Nero Kwik Media, proceed as follows: A Close all Microsoft Windows programs and exit any anti-virus software that may be running. B Start the installation process by double-clicking the downloaded installation file. The files are automatically unzipped and stored on the C:\ drive in a temporary folder from which they are automatically deleted once they have been used. D E Please read the licensing agreement carefully. If you want Ask to be your default search provider, select the first checkbox. If you want to set your home page to Ask.com, select the second checkbox. Click the Next button. F The License Conditions (EULA) screen is displayed. The installation is prepared and the Welcome Screen is displayed. Note: If applications are found on your computer that could conflict with the software to be installed, an appropriate screen is displayed. It is recommended that these applications are uninstalled before proceeding with the installation. G Please read the license agreement carefully and select the appropriate check box if you agree to the terms of the agreement. Installation is not possible without this agreement. 4 5

4 H Click the Next button. The Ready to Install screen is displayed. After the installation is finished, the InstallShield Wizard Completed screen is displayed. N Click the Finish button. The installation wizard will close. I If you want to change the default installation path: J K 1. Click the Installation Settings button. The Installation Settings screen is displayed. 2. Click the Change Button. The Current Destination Folder screen is displayed. 3. Select the desired destination using the Look in drop-down menu and the Folder name text field. If you want to create a shortcut for the application on your desktop, activate the corresponding checkbox. If you want to open multimedia files with Nero Kwik Media by default, activate the corresponding checkbox. You have now installed Nero Kwik Media. The Nero Kwik Media desktop icon is now available on your desktop. Click it to start the application. L If you want to take part in the Nero Product Improvement Program, select the corresponding option button. In order to offer better service, this Nero Product Improvement Program collects anonymous data to determine which features are used and what problems, if any, occur. This information helps Nero to identify which features to improve. No personal information is collected that could be used to contact you. M Click the Install button. The installation process is started. Nero Kwik Media is installed in the selected folder, and a progress bar informs you of the progress of the installation process. 6 7

5 Instructions for activating Nero Kwik Media Apps All Apps purchased or activated (free) from the Nero Store are immediately made available for use within the Nero Kwik Media application without requiring a restart of the application. To activate an App, please proceed as follows: E A new window will appear, where you will be prompted to sign in if you already have a mynero or Nero Webstore account. In case you do not have an account, you can easily generate one by clicking the I am a new customer option. Once you re signed in, the check-out wizard will walk you through the purchasing procedure. After your purchase is complete, your App will be immediately activated and available for use. A Start Nero Kwik Media by double-clicking on the Nero Kwik Media icon on your desktop. B To access the in-app store click on the All Apps button in the Start Page. F No downloading or restarting of the application is required. Now you can simply enjoy your App right away. C You ll be shown a variety of available Apps and Nero Kwik Themes which can be added to your Nero Kwik Media to enrich your creative projects. You ll also notice that there are free Apps, such as Nero Kwik Burn, as well as for purchase Apps, such as Nero Kwik Blu-ray. A few of the Apps available for purchase are also offered with a pre-purchase trial period, such as Nero Kwik Faces or Nero Kwik DVD. We encourage you to check out the Nero Kwik Store from within Nero Kwik Media, and click on any App icon to learn more about its features, and to experience the complete offerings available to users. Nero will continually add more Apps to the Nero Kwik Store, so make sure to visit often for the latest new Apps. Evaluating an App for 30 days before purchasing is even easier now. After entering the Nero Store, simply choose one of the Apps available for Trial, such as Nero Kwik Faces or Nero Kwik DVD. Then click on the 30 Days Trial button. After the sign-in step, the App will be immediately available for the 30-day evaluation period. No check-out from the Nero Kwik Store is necessary to activate a trial App. D To activate an App, you can click on the respective Add to cart button available in the Nero Kwik Store s main page or in the info page of each App. 8 9

6 Instructions for activating Nero Kwik Themes E A new window will appear, where you will sign in. If you already have a mynero or Nero Webstore account you will sign in with these credentials. In case you do not have an account, you can generate one by clicking the I am a new Customer option. All Nero Kwik Themes purchased, or added for free from the Nero Store are available for immediate download from within the Nero Kwik Media application. The download and installation of the respective Nero Kwik Theme will begin automatically. To download one of the Nero Kwik Themes, please proceed as follows: A Start Nero Kwik Media by double-clicking on the Nero Kwik Media icon on your desktop. B To access the in-app store click on the All Apps button in the Start Page. F Once you re signed in, the check-out wizard will take you through the purchase procedure. Once the purchase is complete your Nero Kwik Theme will immediately download and become available. G No restarting of the application is required. Now you can simply enjoy your Nero Kwik Theme right away. D To activate a Theme, click on the respective Add to cart button from within the Nero Store s main page or in the learn more page of each Theme. C You ll be shown a variety of available Apps and Nero Kwik Themes. You ll notice that there are free Themes, such as Nero Kwik Themes 1 and 2, as well as for purchase Themes such as Nero Kwik Themes 3 and 4. Getting the free themes is even easier. After accessing the Nero Kwik Store, simply click the Free Download button of the desired free Nero Kwik Theme, such as Nero Kwik Themes 1or 2. After the sign-in procedure, the theme will be instantly downloaded and available for use

7 How-To Guide Insert the optical disc type you would like to burn to into your optical disc drive and click the Burn button. With just a few clicks, your content will now begin to burn to your disc. Starting Nero Kwik Media Once you ve download Nero Kwik Media free software, install the software, and then open the application by double-clicking on the Nero Kwik Media icon on your desktop. The application in its simplest form provides quick and powerful support for the basic media management things you do every day. Benefits of having easily accessible Apps Nero Kwik Burn App Example Having your Apps easily accessible for immediate use is a huge benefit for saving time, convenience and being able to do more with your media. For example, with Nero Kwik Burn App, copying or burning a Disc of your data is easy, no matter what disc type you wish to burn, CD, DVD even Blu-ray. After the App has been activated, select either Burn a Data Disc or Copy a Disc from the Burn & Copy Disc section. Dynamic behavior of Apps To the right side of the Start Page you ll notice dynamic content that offers users an overview of available Apps that haven t been activated. Add the data you would like to archive to the compilation by clicking the Add button or even easier, by drag and dropping your content into Nero Kwik Media from your Windows Explorer window. Once an App has been activated, the advertising will not appear. Similarly, each of the four sections: Media Library, Enjoy your Media, Be Creative, Burn & Copy Disc, will also be dynamically populated with more use cases, after Apps have been activated. You will always have an updated status of what your Nero Kwik Media version is capable of, and how it is able to be enhanced

8 Familiarity of the Nero Kwik Media user interface Nero Kwik Media is based on the foundation of the popular and intuitive assets of Nero MediaHub introduced in Nero 10. And Nero maintains many of these in the graphical user interface assets in Nero Kwik Media. For instance, the left side of the window displays all available content resources from your Nero Kwik Media library. Content can be accessed directly from the library or from other Nero Kwik Media library categories, such as a music playlists and slideshows. From here, you can also select photos and click Instant slideshow to create a professional-style slideshow. Managing your music with the help of Gracenote To enjoy your content, simply click Music, Photos or Video from the left side of the window and the contents of your folder will display in the main part of the application frame. To begin playing music, for instance, simply select one album, click the Play button and it will begin playing. Nero Kwik Media is a media management tool, which is why it is integrated with Gracenote technology to provide additional metadata information, which allows you to easily enhance your music library. A simple click will automatically search the Gracenote database and add any additional information that was missing to your library properties, such as artist name, song title, track information and even album art, all for free. To try this, right-click on an untagged Track or Album, and when your music library is displayed in the main window, select the option Get Song Information. This is enough to connect to the Gracenote database and let Nero Kwik Media automatically enhance your music tracks with the additional information available. Once the automatic tagging has been done, click on Accept to apply the changes to the selected music tracks

9 Arranging photos Within your photo library you ll always have access to the photo management features at the top of the window. From the Start Page, click on View photos to directly access your photo library or simply click on Photos within Nero Kwik Media s main window. Now, click the Arrange by drop down menu and arrange your photos by year, month, day, and recent. Depending on your selection, your photos will be automatically sorted and displayed. You can also further filter your photos by selecting Show All or Show Favorites. And because the photos are all conveniently located in one place, you never have to search in different drives and folders. Video playback codecs included Nero Kwik Media uses both Nero and the included system codecs provided within the Windows operating system to enable playback of the most popular video formats for free. An example of this is the ability to playback MKV file formats. Easy red-eye removal for photos All photo files can be made ready to share with fast and easy editing and enhancing functions. For example, to remove red eye in photos, which is a common issue for most photos, simply select a picture with red eye from your library and once it s displayed in the main window, click on Modify then Red Eye Removal and the photo is instantly enhanced. Nero Kwik Media will detect the eye location within the photo, and automatically make the color correction. To select videos for playback, you can easily access your video library from your Start Page by clicking Watch videos or by simply clicking on Videos when already are in the application s main window. Select a video and click on the Play button to start your video playback experience

10 Photo slideshow creation Adding soundtracks to photo slideshows Nero Kwik Media is all about content-- managing it, editing it, accessing it and sharing it. The robust platform is also a tool for easily creating slideshows and video projects with just few clicks. Nero Kwik Media adds another layer of customization for slideshows with the tools to add your own personal soundtracks from your music library, all within the Music and Duration tab. Simply click on the Music and Duration tab and you ll see the option to apply your own music under the Music Source section. Select the Use own music option and click the Add music button to search and select a song from your Nero Kwik Media library. Now you can truly customize your slideshows, especially if the music is original! Click on OK to confirm your choices and hit the Play button to enjoy the slideshow you just created. You can start creating slideshows right from the Start Page simply by clicking on Create Slide Show, and/or selecting some photos and/or videos from your library and clicking the Create Slide Show button. Personalize your project with a name and click OK. Creative touches, such as soundtrack or transition effects can easily be applied through the free and paid Nero Kwik Themes. To add a theme of your choice click the Themes button and select the desired theme, which will automatically be applied to your slideshow

11 Managing music playlists In the Music section of your Nero Kwik Media Library, select the albums or songs you d like to add to the playlist, and simply drag and drop your songs/albums into your new playlist. It s that simple! Nero Kwik Media is your essential resource for all your media management. The dynamic platform allows you to create and manage your own music playlists and access your other playlists such as itunes and Windows Media Player. To create a new playlist, click on Create a music playlist from the Start Page or hover over the Playlists section of Nero Kwik Media s main window and click on the small blue arrow that appears. To display external playlists such as itunes or Windows Media Player, first enable the External Playlist feature by going to Options, then selecting External Playlist. Select itunes or Windows Media Player. Then import the playlist by clicking on the green arrow button next to new corresponding entry in the left side of the window. A window will pop up prompting you to name your new playlist. Once you name the playlist, it will show up in the Playlists section. All your playlists will be displayed and accessible for playback, and more importantly, available for sync with portable devices (requires activation of Nero Kwik Move it App from the Nero Kwik Store)

12 About the Apps within the integrated Nero Store If the device is supported in the App s own database, it will appear under Devices in the left pane and will be accessible right away. If the device is not supported, there is a quick setup wizard to help with set up of this new device. Once the devices are available, you can easily access and browse your content stored on your device, by selecting the respective media category. Within Nero Kwik Media, click on Nero Store and you ll be shown a variety of available Apps and Nero Kwik Themes. You ll notice that there are both free Apps, such as Nero Kwik Burn, as well as for purchase Apps such as Nero Kwik Blu-ray. A few of the Apps available for purchase also offer trials such as Nero Kwik Faces or Nero Kwik DVD. In order to activate Apps and/or download Nero Kwik Themes, please follow the instructions listed in Section 5 of this. Synching content to your device is easy: simply drag it from your PC library and drop it on your device, that s all you have to do. Try an album from your music library or choose a video from your video library. Nero Kwik Move it App To fully enable the liquid media vision of providing users with the freedom to access their content via their PC, mobile devices, tablets anytime. Nero Kwik Media offers Nero Kwik Move it. Once the App is activated (see chapter 5), you will find the new Transfer media files to a device use case within the Start Page, click on it and you can begin the syncing process between devices of your choice. There is no further configuration to worry about, Nero Kwik Media automatically transcodes the content into the appropriate format based on the profiles stored in the device database to guarantee smooth playback. First, connect the device you d like to sync to your PC using a USB cable. Of course, getting content to your PC Media Library is just as easy, simply drag and drop it from your device to the Nero Kwik Media library or click on the Import button

13 Important note: To properly try this feature, we recommend using two devices. One device that is already listed in our database which can be found here: and one unsupported device, so that you can see how to set up a connection for unsupported devices. Please make sure your device is USB Mounted to access the stored content. Because Nero Kwik Media supports itunes playlist, it s easier than ever to sync itunes tracks with Android devices. Other platforms don t allow this feature, but is included in Nero Kwik Media for your convenience. This integrated support truly makes Nero Kwik Media the missing link between the Apple and the Google eco systems. Easy searching with face recognition Integrated face recognition within Nero Kwik Media makes searching and sorting thousands of photos in your library easy with the Nero Kwik Faces App. All your photos that have people in them can be tagged and organized by their faces. Furthermore, when new pictures are added, the smart App will help identify faces, tag them automatically or offer possible matches that you can simply confirm with one click of the mouse. HD Content on your Portable device in no time Kwik Faces will automatically start analyzing the entire picture library for recognizable faces to be tagged as soon as it s activated (see chapter 5). This can be seen through the progress bar that will appear near the new Faces category in the left window pane. The App will automatically recognize and highlight people s faces in the different pictures of the library, letting you tag those pictures with just few clicks. The more tags are applied the more Kwik Faces will be able to identify and automatically tag people in other pictures. When tags cannot be applied automatically, Kwik Faces will offer matches and let you decide, with one simple click of the mouse. Moving videos to your HD capable devices for viewing on-the-go is easy, and now even faster with the Nero Kwik Move it App. Nero Kwik Move it App transcodes your videos into the correct format without having to worry about complicated settings. All you need to do is simply drag and drop. And now with the new support for GP-Computing technologies such as ATI Stream, Intel Media SDK, plus NVIDIA CUDA transcoding is many times faster

14 To test how the App works, go to your library, locate a photo with people in it, double click to display it in the main window and click on Add Name to face. To further organize, you can create Groups with the tagged pictures to better organize them by family, friends, colleagues, and more. Grouping photos is easy thanks to drag and dropping and allows you to easily create slideshows without having to sort through hundreds of photos and folders for specific people. The faces in the photo will be automatically recognized and the name fields will appear next to the faces. Add names to the faces, by simply typing the names and hitting the Enter key. Thanks to the AutoComplete feature, you won t have to re-type entire names once they have already been associated to a face. This makes creating slideshows of weddings, birthdays and any other occasion more personal and fun. And most of all Kwik! Once a few photos have been tagged, the App will get smarter. Go to Faces and the App will be able to compare and tag the faces automatically or offer similar, potential matches which you can confirm
