2 Teaching with D2L v8.1 Addendum This guide provides an overview of changes made in software updates released after Learning Environment 8.1 that impact functionality described in Teaching with D2L 8.1. Each section in this document describes the changes included in a given release. If a release includes no changes affecting the functionality described in the related guide, then this document will include no information about that release. For a general overview of the changes made in a given release, see the release notes for that release. Related documentation is available from the Documentation Library on the D2L Community website: Enrollment in the Desire2Learn Community is required to access this site. Information about enrollment can be found on the Community login page. Learning Environment New Grades functionality The addition of Grades formulas was first introduced in Learning Environment to a limited group of clients. As of Learning Environment this functionality is available to all clients. For full details on the new functionality refer to the Grades Formula User and Reference Guide available from the Documentation Library on the D2L Community site. Note Grades formulas are not available to instructors by default. Contact your site administrator about obtaining permission to use this functionality. Learning Environment Exporting reports in Quizzes and Surveys When creating a report from the Generate Report page, users now have two options: Generate CSV Report and Generate HTML Report. Generate CSV Report Allows you to create a CSV report without generating an HTML report first. Generate HTML Report Creates a HTML version of the report. From the HTML version you can create a CSV file or print. This information impacts the section on Exporting Quiz Data in Teaching with D2L
3 Teaching with D2L v8.1 Addendum Learning Environment Likert Questions When creating a new Likert Question (LIK) in the Surveys tool, you can now choose from the following types of scales: One to Five (1-5) This question type is unchanged from 8.1. One to Eight (1-8) This question type is unchanged from 8.1. Agreement Scale (Disagree Agree) This question type incorporates the three agreement scales available in 8.1. If you update survey data from 8.1 to all Strongly Disagree and Strongly Agree responses are changed to Disagree and Agree. Satisfaction Scale (Dissatisfied Satisfied) This is a new question type. Frequency Scale (Never Always) This question type is changed from 8.1. If you update survey data from 8.1 to all Often responses are changed to Always. Importance Scale (Unimportant Important) This is a new question type. Opposition Scale (Oppose Support) This is a new question type. There is now a check box to Include a N/A option in the question scale for all question types. Selecting this option will allow respondents to choose N/A (not applicable) instead of one of the options in the scale. This information impacts the Likert Question procedures in the Creating Survey Questions section of Teaching with D2L 8.1. Fill in the Blanks Questions When creating a new Fill in the Blanks Question (FIB) in the Quizzes tool, there is now an entry box for entering the weight that each blank is worth. Previously, you could only choose from a list of options in a drop-down list. At least one entry box must contain a value other than zero, but the total weight does not need to equal 100. This information impacts the Fill in the Blanks Question procedures in the Creating Quiz Questions section of Teaching with D2L 8.1. Mandatory Questions Instructors now have the option of making quiz and survey questions mandatory to complete. To make a question mandatory 1 On the Layout/Questions tab on the Edit Quiz or Edit Survey page, click the Edit Values or Edit button. 2 Select the Mandatory check box beside the questions you want to force students to answer. 3 Click Save. 3
4 Teaching with D2L v8.1 Addendum Learning Environment Restrictions If a quiz is set to automatically submit after a time limit, it will be submitted even if mandatory questions have not been completed. Mandatory questions cannot be used with branching. Mandatory questions cannot be used in conjunction with the Prevent Moving Backwards feature. This information relates to the Creating and Editing Quizzes and Creating and Editing Surveys sections of Teaching with D2L 8.1. Prevent Moving Backwards in Quizzes Instructors now have the ability to prevent students from returning to previous pages as they complete a quiz. To prevent users from returning to previous pages 1 On the Layout/Questions tab on the Edit Quiz or Edit Survey page click on the grey lines between questions to divide your quiz into pages. 2 Select the Prevent moving backwards through pages check box. 3 Click Save Quiz. Restrictions Prevent moving backwards through pages cannot be used in conjunction with the Mandatory Questions feature. This information relates to the Creating and Editing Quizzes and Creating and Editing Surveys sections of Teaching with D2L 8.1. Delete Selected button for Quizzes and Surveys The Delete Quizzes and Delete Surveys pages previously used the Delete icon for deleting multiple quizzes and surveys. This icon has been replaced by the Delete Selected button to avoid confusion. This information impacts the topics Deleting a Quiz and Deleting Surveys in Teaching with D2L tab on the Preferences page The tab on the Preferences page previously contained only an Signature field for creating a personal signature for the end of messages. It now contains the same options as the Settings page in the tool. See the Mail Settings section of the D2L User and Reference Guide for a full description of the options available on this tab. This information relates to the Signature section of Teaching with D2L
5 Teaching with D2L v8.1 Addendum all members of a group from the classlist You can now quickly all members of a group from the classlist. 1. In the classlist, select the Groups tab. 2. Click the name of the group you want to . The Compose New Message window is displayed and the To field is automatically populated with the addresses of all members of the group. Caution The new message will be addressed not only to students but also to any instructors or administrators enrolled in the group, even if they are not displayed in the classlist. Review the addressees listed in the To field carefully before sending a message to all members of a group. This information relates to the topic a Participant in Teaching with D2L 8.1. Learning Environment MR3 all members of a group from the classlist (improved functionality) Now when you a group from the classlist (as described under Learning Environment MR1, above), the is addressed only to users listed as group members in the classlist. (Previously, the was also addressed to administrators and instructors who had access to the group.) This information relates to the topic a Participant in Teaching with D2L
