1 Your SU Student Account -- Visiting Student As a new student at Syracuse University, you received an identification card through an from the SU Abroad office. Your ID (SUID) number located on the identification card provides a unique number to access many Syracuse University systems and services. You will keep this number throughout your time at Syracuse University. ACTIVATE Your NETID Syracuse University provides a wide range of computing services to students. Access to many of these services is controlled through the NetID. Your NetID password needs to be activated before it can be used. The process includes creating a password and composing a challenge question that is used to reset passwords. To activate a new NetID, go to and select Activate Your NetID. Follow the instructions below to log in and activate your NETID password. Note: If you completed Post Acceptance Form#3- Emergency Contact Info and Health Info Form online, you have activated your NetID. SU Abroad Your SU Student Account -- Visiting Student Page 1

2 YOUR SU Account Once you have activated your NetID, you will have a syr.edu university account. Your account is normally formatted as NETID@syr.edu. For example, if your NetID is jbsmith, then your account is jbsmith@syr.edu. IMPORTANT NOTE: The University considers your syr.edu account to be the official account for receiving university communication. By default, for your syr.edu account is delivered to the university s web-based system, SUmail. To use your SUmail, browse to and log in with your NetID and password. SUmail is easy to use and provides 10GB inbox and 18MB attachments. SU Abroad Your SU Account -- Visiting Student Page 2

3 FORWARD Your SU Account As noted above, all official university communication, including university systems such as Blackboard, will be delivered to your syr.edu account unless you change to another preferred account. If you prefer, you may forward this mail to any other valid and already established account such as Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo or your home university account. To change your forwarding, Login to your SUmail account at and select Options from the top righthand corner and then Create an Inbox rule. 4 In the "New Inbox Rule" window, click the "More Options" button In the "New Inbox Rule" window, under "When the message arrives, and:," select "Apply to all messages" SU Abroad Your SU Account -- Visiting Student Page 4

5 In the "New Inbox Rule" window under "Do the following:" select "Forward, redirect, or send" and then choose "Redirect the message to..." Type the address to which you want to redirect received in the "Message recipients:" area, then click OK. SU Abroad Your SU Account -- Visiting Student Page 5

6 In the "New Inbox Rule"screen click the Add Action button. Go to "Move, copy or delete" and select "Delete the message." This will delete the message from your SUmail inbox after forwarding the message to keep your SUmail mailbox from filling up and reaching its quota. 7 In the "Name of Rule" box, you can change the name of this rule to something more descriptive, such as the sample name below. Now click on the "Save" button. A message will appear that asks "Do you want this rule to apply to all future messages?" Click on "Yes." The rule should now appear in the list of rules. MySlice (Syracuse University Resource Services) MySlice provides students, faculty and staff a secure, online gateway to all essential University resources including the class registration (only at applicable centers), grades, transcripts and student personal information services. MySlice is found at and use your NetID and password to log in. MySlice services : Register on line prior to departure (currently available only for London, Hong Kong, and Madrid program students) View your SU Bursar account * Update Addresses/Billing Name (it is the student s responsibility to provide accurate billing contact information) Review and confirm your enrollment record after mid-semester (or after on-line registration, where offered) SU Abroad Your SU Account -- Visiting Student Page 7

8 View your grades after the end of the semester and before requesting your official transcript. You will need to confirm all of your grades have posted to your record prior to requesting your transcript. Transcript request instructions will be sent separately later in the semester. Share access to billing, financial aid and class schedule information with a parent, spouse or other designee.
