1 Overview For Unions, JATCs, and Contractors Thank you for registering with Helmets to Hardhats, now that you have received your user name and password you can connect with military service veterans, National Guard, Reserve and transitioning activeduty military members looking to pursue a career in the construction industry. The next step in your recruitment process is to Post your career opportunities P o s t c a r e e r o p p o r t u n i t i e s t h a t p r o a c t i v e l y g o o u t t o v e t e r a n s i n t e r e s t e d i n t h e c o n s t r u c t i o n i n d u s t r y. S e a r c h a n d i d e n t i f y q u a l i f i e d v e t e r a n s i n t h e H e l m e t s t o H a r d h a t s d a t a b a s e. M a n a g e a l l y o u r c a r e e r o p p o r t u n i t y p o s t i n g s o n -l i n e, i n c l u d i n g a p p l i c a n t s t a t u s, l e t t e r s, an d m o r e. To get started, follow these 6 easy steps: 1. Go to 2. Click the last tab at the top marked 3. Type in your User Name and Password 4. You will be taken to a screen that will allow you to manage your account. This is your personal H2H home page which will show your recent folders, quick links, and any program alerts. 5. Click on Post an Opportunity You can write your own job description or oneclick ad writer will show you a list of career descriptions that are pre-set. 6. Please fill out all of the items that apply. You MUST fill in the items marked with a red asterisk. Once completed scroll down and click Add Jobs to list below You will receive notifications from candidates interested in your career opportunity. This notification will include an on-line resume the candidate has posted with Helmets to Hardhats. You can also search and identify qualified candidates by clicking Find Candidates. This feature will allow you to search candidates in your area. Now you have the information required to contact qualified military candidates who are looking for a great career with your application procedures.

2 POSTING AN OPPORTUNITY Posting a construction-related career opportunity on the Helmets to Hardhats website lets you to reach a pool of registered veterans nationwide. Your posting can simply be a notice about when, where, and how applications are being taken, or it can allow applicants to apply on-line. Note: The term job which is used throughout the website encompasses all job and career opportunities in the building and construction industry. To get started, click and follow the steps below. Required Fields on the 1 st page: 1. Give the opportunity a title. Ex: Plumber Apprentice, Sheet Metal Worker, Construction Estimator. 2. Write a brief description Minimum 200 words 1. Write your own allows you to compose the description on-line or cut and paste from a document which you ve already created. Either way, you can format your description just like in a word processing program. 2. Use or edit a standard job description under the tab One-Click Ad Writer. It will pull up options to choose from based on the job title. You can also browse the list of available pre-written descriptions. You can edit and reformat the text for any of the One-Click Ads to personalize it to your opportunity. 3. Under Job Type check off either employee or apprentice unless the other categories truly fit the opportunity. 4. Under Job Status indicate whether it s full-time or part-time. 5. Posting Start Date indicates when you want your opportunity to be posted on the website for candidates to see. 6. Posting End Date MUST be filled in, even if you have open enrollment. The end date can be up to 1 year from the start date. (Note: we re working on getting a more permanent option.) Optional Fields on the 1 st page: 1. Salary/Wage Range & Additional Salary Text. For apprenticeships, you may want to use the text area to describe their starting rate and scale. 2. The Trade field lets you choose from a list. Including your trade lets candidates interested in your trade easily find your posting. 3. Required Documents: Simple check off for Driver s License DD-214 (indicates military discharge status) High School Transcript or GED Equivalent Other items can be listed in the Other Required Documents text box. 2

GI Benefits check box applies to apprenticeship programs and indicates whether your program has been approved by the State Approving Agency as a training center where veterans are eligible to use their GI Bill benefits. 5. Job Seeker Requirements Relevant Work Experience indicates the number of years of experience required. You can choose a range of years of experience from the list. Career Level ex. Entry level, student, manager 6. Auto Response Letter: Use this option to create and automatically send a letter to any candidate who applies to your opportunity on-line. To use this feature, you MUST use the Apply Online feature (See #8 below) Do not send an auto-response letter: Select this if you do not want to automatically send a letter to candidates who apply online. Send the following auto-response letter: Select this to automatically send a letter to candidates who apply online. If this is your first time using this feature you will be required to create a letter. If you have already used this feature, you can select a letter you ve already used in the past from the list box or create a new letter. 7. Contact Method I'd prefer to keep this posting confidential: Check this box if you DO NOT want candidates to view your organization s name, logo, and other links to your info (i.e. other postings listed by your organization). OR Select the information you want to show: For your convenience, the contact information you provided when you requested access will appear in the appropriate boxes.** Select all information that you'd like to include on your posting. If you do not select Apply Online (see below), candidates will use this contact information to apply to your posting. If you do select Apply Online, displaying contact information on your posting will provide job seekers with an alternative contact method. ** If the contact information that appears is not correct, you can change it in this section. To make sure it s correct for the next posting, update your contact information in your user profile. To edit your user profile, click the Home tab, then click Administration under quick links on the right, and click edit user profile. 8. Apply Online: If you check Apply Online, candidates who view your posting will be able to apply directly from their H2H account. Checking this feature also enables you to use the Auto-Response Letter feature described in #6 above. At the bottom of the first page, you MUST choose one of the following options to continue: Spellcheck your posting so far, Save it for later rather than finishing it now (but you must have completed all required fields on the page) OR Continue by clicking Next 3

4 Required Fields on the 2 nd page: 1. Job Site: should already read Helmets to Hardhats 2. Job Search Area: allows you to choose the region(s) where your opportunity will be located (i.e., union s jurisdiction). New Jersey is divided into South, Central, and North which you ll find in the drop-down list. You can choose multiple regions if it applies. Optional Fields on the 2 nd page: 1. Job Location: If you are posting an actual job opportunity (vs. an apprenticeship opportunity), this section may be applicable. Otherwise, you can indicate the area(s) of the state you cover in the required Job Search Area field below. 2. Reference Code: If you d like to assign the posting a reference code for use in your office, you can do so in this field. To complete your posting, you MUST hit Add Job(s) to List Below at the bottom of this second page. MANAGING YOUR POSTED OPPORTUNITIES When you save a posted opportunity, the website automatically creates a folder in your account using the job title you assigned to the posting. The resumes for candidates who apply on-line are automatically sent to this folder. 1. To view your folders or create new folders, click the button marked 2. You can hide a folder from being visible. Click the checkbox to the left of the folder, select Hide Selected Folders from the actions list above, and hit Go. 3. All of your visible folders will be listed, and you will see the following information for each: a. Folder Name corresponds with the title of your posting or a name you ve created b. Creator - the person who created the folder/posting c. Postings the individual postings under that title. For instance, if you post the same job in both North and Central NJ, you ll have 2 postings in the folder. You can click on the number to see the postings and make any needed edits or change the time frame of the postings. d. Total Views number of H2H candidates who have looked at your posting. e. Total Clicks number of H2H candidates who have clicked on your posting to see details. f. Applies number of applications ed g. Online Applies number of applications submitted on-line (if you chose this option). You can click on the number to see access the list of applicants. h. Date Modified date of the most recent change to the contents of the folder. 4

5 4. You can also access information on the job seekers, postings, or job information by clicking on an individual folder. Just as when you search for candidates (see next section), you can view and print an applicant s resume, send them a letter via , or save their profile to another folder. You can also filter the applicant pool using a date range and/or a number of applicants to list per page. FINDING CANDIDATES To find the candidates that best meet your needs, you can search by any combination of the following: 1. Date Default time period is the past month To search the entire database, choose All Resumes in the second list box 2. Keyword Start with broad concepts you can always narrow your search If you re looking for a particular registered candidate, you can use the person s name as your keyword. 3. Location State; you can choose whether or not to include people who are willing to work in the state (but may not currently reside in-state) or Postal/ZIP Code Radius 4. Job Seeker Profile education level work status (e.g., Full-Time, Part-Time, Apprentice ) At the end of the page, be sure to hit 5

6 Once you receive your search results 1. You can expand or narrow them, modify the original search, or start a new search from scratch. 2. When you re satisfied with your results, select individual resumes using the checkboxes on the left-hand side or select all the resumes by clicking the checkbox at the top of the list. Then, select an action from the drop down menu at the top of the list and hit a. Add to Folder - You ll be prompted to create a folder or add to an existing folder that matches the title of your posting. b. View Selected- From here you have several options: move among selected resumes or edit your choices using the links at the top of each page; print the resume you re viewing or print all selected resumes; add the resume to a folder (see above); send the person a letter via ; jump to the Summary Section which gives the person s target trades, locations, and desired work status c. Add to Favorites - you can remove the person from favorites at any time d. Block - you can unblock the person at any time After you select one of these actions, be sure to hit 6
